Twenty years later, Chloe is a psychologist to troubled teens, when a local teen goes missing. This felt like a slow burn which would be smoldering by the end! Can’t wait to read more. REQUESTING!!
The Night Shift-Alex Finlay-Stand-alone, though Sarah Keller from Every Last Fear is back and on the case of a pair of small town Murders-one at a Blockbuster Video and one at an Ice cream shop, fifteen years apart but linked. The Resting Place-Camilla Sten-Stand-alone-horror/suspense about a woman with Prosopagnosia-face blindness. In “The Light We Lost, Lucy is faced with a life-altering decision.
But, before she can make that decision, she will reexamine her love story with Gabe-one SHE feels is Epic.
Lucy and Gabe met as seniors at Columbia University on 9/11. And, on that day, they decided that they wanted their lives to mean something, no matter what
EVEN AT THE EXPENSE OF BEING TOGETHER
Now, it’s ten years later, and we get to find out what has happened in Lucy’s life after the DECISION. (No spoilers here!)
Has it turned out as you may have imagined when the first book ended? Now, you will get the chance to find out.
Have you ever read a sequel and felt like the main character didn’t feel like the same person? I have, but thankfully that is NOT the case here! Jill Santopolo has written Lucy with the SAME Voice as before-and has written what I feel would be a very AUTHENTIC life trajectory for her. I was immediately drawn back into her World from page one!
Life is MESSY, and people are IMPERFECT, and this sequel will give you much to discuss. I never expected we would get to see what happened next-but, I am glad we did!
A buddy read with DeAnn-who may have felt differently! Be sure to watch for her review for additional insight!
If you enjoyed the first-you won’t be disappointed! If you haven’t read it yet- you will want to start there! Review for “The Light We Lost: /review/show...

I thought I would love this epistolary novel about three Brooklynites in need of a fresh start who move to Goodnight, Kansas after inheriting a dilapidated Victorian home (And a few Alpacas). Especially when I read that the family purchases the May Day Diner, an iconic eatery under the threat of the wrecking ball.
Told through diary entries, emails, school notes, an anonymous town paper and a few messages in a bottle, I hoped to find the story to be as charming as just about EVERY other reviewer has, but found that I just can’t relate to the town or its quirky residents.
No book is for every reader, and sadly, this one isn’t for me. BE SURE to read other reviews! There are MANY praising this debut offering!

ONE PHONE CALL CAN COMPLETELY CHANGE YOUR LIFE
I love stories revolving around neighbors with juicy secrets, and this story takes place in a village of South Langley. Noah and Eve, and their 15 year old son, Joe live in a sprawling home which once served as a vicarage. And, Eve’s best friend, Lisa and her 15 year old daughter, Annie, live in a charming cottage across the street.
Joe will be turning 16 in a few days time, and he would like to have a few friends over to play Xbox. Eve isn’t keen on the idea, worried about cigarette burns on the sofa and vomit in potted plants, but she and Noah will be camped out at Lisa’s house, just a stone’s throw away, so at least they can make sure there aren’t gate crashers and that things don’t get out of control. They provide some beer and cider (* see my footnote) and head over to Lisa’s but Eve can’t shake the feeling that something terrible is going to happen.
A few hours later, she receives a frantic phone call from Joe.
They race across the street to find Annie lying on the kitchen floor, struggling to breathe.
This book was not at all what I expected as it delves much deeper than a neighborhood with juicy secrets. In fact, most of the secrets revealed aren’t any that I haven’t read before in other similar books.
Instead, it mostly deals with a drug overdose from MDMA (Ecstasy, Molly) which unlike Opioid overdoses from heroin, methadone or fentanyl cannot be reversed with naloxone. And, it deals with the fractured relationships and the fallout as Annie’s life hangs in the balance and Eve searches for the truth.
Always engaging but not always easy to read.
DO read the Prologue again, AFTER you finish the book. ...more
SOMETIMES THE NICEST HOUSES BELONGING TO PEOPLE WITH THE WIDEST SMILES CONCEAL THE WORST HORRORS
Terrifying, Nail biting, and Fast-paced, this story SOMETIMES THE NICEST HOUSES BELONGING TO PEOPLE WITH THE WIDEST SMILES CONCEAL THE WORST HORRORS
Terrifying, Nail biting, and Fast-paced, this story opens when THREE gunshots are heard from the home of John and Katherine West, where they live with their 5 year old twins, George and Sophie-a family of FOUR.
Has someone broken into the home? Or could this be another inexplainable murder-suicide?!
This story FELT authentic from the first sentences and could have been ripped from the headlines.
After the opening chapter, the story will rewind 8 hours, and be told from four EQUALLY compelling POV’s .
Two are from outside the home, where we hear from their concerned next door neighbor Gladys, and a courier named Logan who sensed that something was not right, when he attempted to deliver a package that had to be signed for. Both grapple with deciding if they should intervene. There is a fine line between what is considered to be “too interfering and what is considered as being “too disinterested when it comes to neighbors or strangers.
A NEWS BREAK will flash across television screens about a twenty five year old woman who was attacked in Melbourne two days prior, now in a Coma, and neighbors will admit to hearing arguing, but doing nothing about it.
This will prompt both Gladys and Logan to take additional action.
And, from inside the home, we are told what is actually going on from Katherine, and the “monster with the gun. You will get “inside the head of the person holding the gun..what makes a person feel that they have now reached the point where there is no way back from what they have started?
And, what gives others the courage to face these demons and fight like hell to survive?
All of the characters were well developed, and fleshed out with their own personal stories, giving you additional insight into the choices that they will make.
This was one of my favorite domestic thrillers this year-so GRIPPING and UNPUTDOWNABLE that I read it in a day!! And, you can grab a copy today-it just published!!
The author has a new fan, and I cannot to read some of her earlier titles that I have somehow missed!

A GREAT BOOK TO START THE NEW YEAR WITH!
Eddie Winston is a 90 year old who laughs easily and loves with all of his heart.
An incurable romantic, Eddie spends his days volunteering at a charity shop, where he sorts through donations and secretly salvages love letters and other items that he knows will be missed. It is here that he meets Bella, a 24 year old who has just tragically lost the love of her young life.
When he sees the items she is donating, he sets them aside, knowing that one day she will regret parting with them. And, when that day comes, and he is able to return them to the heartbroken young woman, a fast friendship is formed.
When Bella learns that Eddie has yet to be kissed, she resolves to help Eddie Winston finally find a love that can be reciprocated. You see, he knows what love is having spent his life hopelessly devoted to a devout woman who would never break her vow to another.
Helping Eddie (and his Guinea pig, Pushkin) find love, is healing for Bella too. And, I loved Pushkin’s love story! ...more

So when Lucy meets Elle, a woman who shares her same passions, they form a FAST friendship. They quickly become inseparable which fills the void.
But, will Elle be a person who enters Lucy’s life for a reason? A season? Or a lifetime? (Referring to that poem by the unknown author)

Katy Sweeney is looking for her younger sister Phoebe- a vivacious blogger who disappeared while traveling solo in her van. Her journey was supposed to take her on a complete loop of Australia, starting and ending in Perth.
Pheebsinwonderland Day 6- Besides the “necessities all you need is common sense, Phoebe assures her followers-“Trust your gut and if something’s off-just leave! She posts along with her TOP TWENTY SAFETY TIPs. #solofemaletravel, #womenwhowander
And, yet, just three weeks later, her BEAUTIFUL PHOTOS and CHEERFUL POSTS completely stop.
It’s been a year, and the case has gone cold, but Katy believes that people don’t just vanish into thin air-everyone leaves a trace-you just have to find it.
So, using Phoebe’s social media accounts as a map, Katy retraces her sister’s steps, searching for any clues the police may have missed.
Her first clue comes when she finds a Bobby pin, painted with nail polish-in the dirt at one of the campsites-which is a unique item that Phoebe always wore in her hair.
Teaming up with Katy is Beth (Lily) who also found trouble while living a van life and literally ran into Katy while on the run from an abusive boyfriend.
The story alternates between the POV’s of Katy, Beth and Wyatt-a sick, young boy whose Mom also disappeared after leaving their home one day.
I have mixed feelings about this book.
The author captured the dark side of Women’s Solo travel brilliantly, with descriptive prose and nothing is scarier to me than reading about or imagining the awful things that some humans are capable of.
The story started out strong but the pace became too SLOW by the midway point and 384 pages began to feel too long. Despite mostly enjoying it, the book took me longer than usual to finish.
And the book took a turn in the end which disappointed me. It was a unique story but there was a missed opportunity to really make this an EMOTIONAL crime novel, and I felt cheated by the ending. How you feel about it may determine your final rating too.
I paired my reading with the audiobook, narrated by Maddy Withington, who did a terrific job voicing all three characters.

On Saturday, July 16th, Ethan wakes up alone.
The flap remains shut, but there is a thirty eight inch gash along one side of the tent, and Billy is gone. Apparently, Ethan slept right through the whole thing.
No signs of a struggle and no clues.
It’s been thirty years and Billy is still listed on NamUs ( The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System ) as MISSING.
Ethan’s parents have retired to Florida, and at 40 years old, he finds himself unexpectedly moving back into the family home on Hemlock Circle-the last place he expected to be living at this stage of his life.
He struggles with Insomnia, something he developed after the abduction, so when the motion detectors of the neighboring houses are tripped, ONE BY ONE-he is awake to see them all!
But, he can’t see WHO or WHAT is setting them off.
The next morning, a baseball ⚾️ is in his yard-the secret code the two boys had which meant, “Billy wants to play.
Could Billy be back? Or is this a GHOST story?
Alternating between the PAST and the PRESENT, the mystery of what happened to Billy will finally be solved.
I actually guessed MOST of the reveals this time-the CLUES are all there if you pay close attention-not all of the little details but definitely who had played a part in Billy’s disappearance.
This didn’t detract from my enjoyment because the author’s last two books were too twisty and OTT for my tastes, and this one was much more plausible which is my preference. I enjoyed reading to see if I was right
The middle dragged just a bit, when we spent a lot of time in the past, so I will go with 3.75 ⭐️ rounded up!
I also love the cover depicting the ominous Cul de Sac, where those shocking things happened in the “middle of the night”

So when offered a VERY early copy of this book, I jumped at the chance to read it, and moved it ahead of several others which are publishing much sooner-I just couldn’t wait!
So, nobody is more surprised than I am that this was a bit of a MISS for me, despite the fun and clever premise!
Jane and Dan have been married for nineteen years, (or is it twenty?) but Jane isn’t sure they will make it another year. She decides to ask for a Divorce during their Anniversary dinner at the renowned, upscale and very OVERPRICED restaurant “La Fin du Monde.
But before they can even finish the second course, (which didn’t sound even remotely appetizing to me!) an underground CLIMATE activist group bursts into the dining room and takes everyone hostage. Their “target had reservations at the restaurant for that night-and it appears to be a case of “Wrong Place-Wrong time for Jane and Dan.
OR IS IT?
Could it really be a COINCIDENCE that nearly everything that the activists SAY and DO seems to be right out of the pages of Jane’s one and only published book, “Tea is For Terror?
How can that be when less than 500 copies were ever sold?
Not liking the main protagonist isn’t a problem in a psychological thriller but it is a problem in a story like this one, and I really didn’t like Jane! I didn’t enjoy spending time with her-and the HUMOR didn’t resonate with me either.
This was reminiscent of Fredrik Backman’s very popular “Anxious People, another book I didn’t care for-so, if you enjoyed that one, you just might love this one too!
Be sure to read a sample of reviews as no book is for every reader and this just may be a better fit for you!

Jules is still mourning her husband when she meets Kirin, and falling in love again was the last thing she expected to do. But, she and her teenage daughter, Scout are now moving into his old family home, “The Winslow House. He has thoughtfully updated it to be a SMART HOME, with “Vivi taking care of your every need.
Despite her beautiful new room, Scout still feels like an outsider until she finds a beautiful, handmade doll which belonged to Kirin’s late sister, Emma. Perhaps Kirin can understand her grief after all?
Yet, there is a sense of foreboding which lingers
And, why does Jules continue to see a blue eyed girl in the torn jeans, with mascara running down her face, in the beautiful “grief garden out back?
This is a perfect AMAZON ORIGINAL short story (96 pages) for Spooky Season. It has both a SUPERNATURAL vibe, and a CONTEMPORARY feel (the author incorporates some interesting new APPS that I had only recently heard about into the story). And, it will be released on September 12, 2024.
I can’t decide what was most creepy-the Smart House, the dolls that Kirin created, or the girl in the garden!

Alex is an “old soul trapped in the body of a depressed 25 year old.
When asked for three interests on the carshare.com website, he thinks of Herbal tea, camels and American soul music. But, he can’t say that! So, he goes with Museums, traveling and literature-hoping to attract a young lady to accompany him on his trek to Brussels.
Max is age “none of your business and enjoys mechanics, whisky and the Tour de France.
In reality, Maxine is a spry nonagenarian, who claps like a little girl when she gets excited, and who loves to make an entrance! She thinks that she has Alzheimer’s and needs to get to Brussels. Alex sounds dull, but since SHE seems to be the only one offering a Carshare to Brussels, Max accepts the offer and pays the fee.
She soon realizes that Alex isn’t a young lady, nor the “drug addict she feared he might be, when she buckled into her seatbelt, but rather a shy lad lacking in confidence who needed to be coaxed out of his bell. (Or is it, out of his shell?) Maxine is always getting the words in common phrases confused!
You never know what might come out of her mouth, or her enormous handbag!
If you enjoyed last year’s “Anxious People by Fredrik Backman, about a bank robbery gone wrong, you will definitely want to hitch a ride on this road trip, gone awry!!
It is just as humorous and uplifting!
