a feast for crows is my fav instalment as of yet, I loved it sm though it also made me hate Jaime oopsies. I really wanna see more of Dorne and frankly idk what direction Sansa’s and Arya’s storylines are headed, I don’t even know if I care cuz I certainly don’t care about them as characters but I suppose that not knowing as to what for are their arcs even there keeps my curiosity and interest afloat ...more

How do you begin to pour your thoughts about the story into words when they mostly consist of emotions you find difficult to describe? How do you begin to talk about How To Make a Wish? A book that made me feel a whole range of various emotions and that I genuinely couldn’t put down. Well, I suppose I will try.
tw: for parental neglect
The narrator of the story is Grace, a teenage girl one year away from college who is rather unlike other kids her age. And no, that is not the i’m-not-like-other-girls trope, Grace was forced to essentially play the part of a caretaker and a parent for her own mother. Maggie, Grace’s mom, is... a mess. The very embodiment of a mess. She’s quite literally and simply just a bad parent, who does love Grace but lives in delusion thinking everything is fine and whatever isn’t, she can fix herself.
But the portrayal of this is anything but simple. The author made sure to accurately portray the complexity of such unhealthy mother-daughter relationship and the emotions and dilemmas accompanying it. Like I said, this book made me feel all the dominant emotions the main character was experiencing: anger, irritation, disbelief, sadness and most importantly, disappointment, all of this directed at and prompted by her mother.
I wasn’t honestly expecting to get this emotionally invested and so now it makes it impossible for me to talk about his book anyhow objectively. I suppose I can try but admitting that not all the characters in this book were very nuanced, that the plot was, well, wasn’t really much of it there because the plot WAS the characters. But ultimately I don’t even care about these things because this story just... was amazing.
There is also a sapphic romantic storyline, which admittedly was really cute although Eva, the love interest, did at one point annoy me so much that I declared to dislike her. She redeemed herself though, realised her mistake and apologised for it, so.
All in all, this an excellent book and undoubtedly a five star read for me. Made me so emotional I can’t stop thinking about it and yes I cried over the ending ...more
