I found the story a bit hard to follow at times, I'm not sure if that was purposeful or a translation issue.
The story reminded me a lot of Diabolik Lovers, if the gents were less sadistic to the female lead. We all love to hate Diabolik Lovers, so I can definitely see why that comparison would be a plus for most readers.
The artwork was beautiful and it really shoved the scale in favor of this series when it came down to my overall rating of 7. There are also some interesting expressions in this iteration of a vampire tale that could set this series apart from others....more

It is narrated by Claude*s psychiatrist and takes us through Claude*s life from the age of 8 when he begins seeing the doctor. In this story the main focus is on Claude*s relationships.
This is a short one-shot that packs a punch. It*s heart-wrenching to watch Claude struggle through his romantic relationships with women as a transgender man in early 20th century France.
The story moves very quickly, so if you aren*t paying attention or ready for it, it can be jarring. But I found when I paused and reread it was easy to understand how one scene connected to another.
The artwork and layouts are beyond beautiful, as expected of Riyoko Ikeda. Well-structured, soft and romantic. I would have loved a further glimpse into Claude*s life beyond his romantic pursuits, but given the time of his death I doubt there was much to show we weren*t already privy to.
This was my first Riyoko Ikeda story, I think it was a great introduction to their work. I*m looking forward to reading more!...more

This story is bizarre and enthralling. Mako enters a contract with a demon in order to fulfill his passion for eating a demon, J. He agrees to Mako*s request accepting his soul as payment. But J sees something in Mako and takes his decapitated head as well, moving them to a replacement body. Mako is to become J*s demon protege of sorts.
The story is not for the light of heart and will likely turn many people away before opening a volume, but the art saves it from being distasteful. It*s very beautiful and while it is erotic, it*s rather tame and leaves a lot to the imagination. The line work is thin, with bold and varied shading styles. It*s very romantic and dark with a victorian sort of feel. It*s incredibly satisfying to consume.
I really enjoyed this and am about to read vol. 2??
