She almost gets lost in metaphors and quotations on the nature of chaos but that is probably part of the territory when you are trying to unravel questions that can't be answered. A good, thought-provoking read....more

CovA wonderful read about the author's long, long process of regaining a sense of power over her life after her mother is spirited away and murdered. Covers a lot of territory, and covers it well. Focuses a lot on the different ways women are victimized and/or supported in our society and how she navigated those waters as well. This one is very much worth your time....more

The authors brought Provincetown, 1969 to life so vividly I felt as if I were there. I just got through reading 2 other books on this case, almost back to back, but this book has a completely different angle on the story. I was unbothered by repeating the familiar facts of the case because this was an entirely different take. I am so grateful for the authors' extra detective work that answered so many nagging questions. There's so much in here you have never read before!...more

I learned a lot about the FBI and the life of an agent, with just a sprinkling of the crimes she worked on. She seems to have had a huge impact on the Bureau and an important role in dragging it out of the Hoover era. Well-written and worth your time....more

I hope writing this book helped the author scrape this hideous injustice off his shoe and maybe allowed him to move past it, but I kind of doubt it. Don't miss this one if you have any interest at all in these two horrific murders....more

There's nothing I like better than reading a book set in a place I've lived, and in this book I recognized every single address, building and crime scene. What I don't understand is why he changed the name of almost every single person, even when it made no sense. Why, for instance, did he change prosecutor Brian Mackie's name and even call him a "district attorney" when there is no such job title in Michigan? Still, the stories made for fascinating reading. Chanel takes us through what feels like every minute of her terrible, humiliating experiences at the hands of Brock Turner and the public pillorying that followed, in the news, in the courtroom, at work, everywhere she went for the next five years, utterly changed by an experience that she (luckily) can't remember. I loved the way she tore away all Brock's evasions and lies, how she found support in so many places, how she finally jettisoned her doubts about herself and saw it all clearly again. Read this wrenching story. It will change you, in a good way....more
