I thought most of the writing was lovely--Gruen does a great3.5 Usually I stay in my YA reading bubble, so I don't have a lot to compare this book to. I thought most of the writing was lovely--Gruen does a great job with description. She also incorporated a lot of research into the story, which felt authentic. I like how her characters shifted and developed throughout the story.
One of the only things that really bugged me was the romance.(view spoiler)[ Why did Angus fall in love with her? They had that moment by the fire, but they didn't really talk much after that. Like, if you put all their interactions together, maybe they had like 3 conversations? But they're in love? Romances that develop from "stolen looks" and things like that bother me; my suspension of disbelief only goes so far. (hide spoiler)]
Also, this book had 2 short somewhat descriptive sex scenes. They're easy enough to skip over, but just FYI....more

She gave me her copy to read, and I read it over the span of two weeks. What I liked: The writing. The characters were believable and realistic. The descriptions were fantastic. I found myself thinking in a British accent, which was fun. It got me thinking. This is a story I will remember. I didn't know much about quadriplegics before reading this book, and it offered an interesting and seemingly realistic look into that lifestyle.
What I didn't like: Maybe I'm heartless, but I didn't connect with it as much as I wanted. While I thought Lou was a believable character, I didn't identify with her as much. ...more
