Clare is a genius, and is recruited to a secret project, but it鈥檚 more like she is forced. It鈥檚 a mix of thriller and sci-fi or futuristic dystopia. On the surface, Clare is to work on a project eliminating disease and extending life. But those in charge of the project and not what they seem. Thus us just book one in a series I probably won鈥檛 finish. Clare rebels against those in authority, tries to find out more, and as the most gifted researcher ever known, she takes things to another level when she fights back.
I鈥檓 not sure how this came in my radar. It鈥檚 was a bit different from my usual, and I enjoyed that about this. I didn鈥檛 get fully engaged, but I did enjoy.
I鈥檒l probably remember this and wonder why only 3 stars....more

A completely engrossing story about a group of very diverse women living in a boarding house in McCarty era DC. Grace Marsh shows up and breathes life in the house, and yes the house does live! All the women are unique and lonely, and brought together by Grace鈥檚 Thursday night dinners while the miserable landlady is out. A touch of Trigiani鈥檚 characters, but worldly not mountainy. Each character is developed and then the plot grows a thickens as they become more interconnected- with young Lina鈥檚 bake-off contest, Bea鈥檚 baseball career, Nora鈥檚 gangster boyfriend, Claire鈥檚 pickpocketing and secret affair, Reka the Hungarian and her NY art, Fliss with the young child and a husband at war, and Arlene who just wants to be liked. Grace is magnificent and has a secret, but keeps everyone enthralled. Heartwarming and radical and empowering!...more
