NOTHING HAPPENS IN THIS SERIES!!! 6 FULL BOOKS AND 5 NOVELLAS AND NOTHING HAPPENS!! I CAN'T EVEN-
what a piss poor ending to a piss poor series.
the only book that has any sort of plot is defy me. all the other books are pure romance. and what is the fucking plot? dead characters getting revived again and again, lame ass villains who get killed in a single shot, a corrupt government who can't even properly oppress its people and has no political aspect. and ofcourse love is the answer to everything! amnesia? fuck is that, all you need is a makeout session with your lover to get back your memories.
4 people to be killed, 2 of them are killed OFF PAGE BY SOME RANDOM CHARACTER WE DON'T EVEN HAVE A POV OF, and the other 2 are killed with a single headshot. it all ends in 5 secs.
6 fucking books with so many characters but none of them matter. they weren't even part of this "wAr". they were chilling at home, enjoying their food while only the main couple "fOuGHt", if you'd even call that fighting.

trust me guys, i really tried enjoying this. maybe i am a stoic bitch for feeling absolutely ✨Nձ while reading this series. despite the piss pootrust me guys, i really tried enjoying this. maybe i am a stoic bitch for feeling absolutely ✨Nձ while reading this series. despite the piss poor attempt at writing the lousy plot twists, this book was excruciatingly boring. everytime Aaron and Juliette were together, i had to struggle to not let my concentration wander off. idk what it is, or maybe i am just cold hearted, but the romance in this series makes me wanna drag my face through a concrete wall out of the sheer boredom and exhaustion. reading about how much juliette and warner love each other IS A FUCKING CHORE ATP. just stop. end this already. there's no need to drag a narrative so fucking much.
with the second set of trilogy, tahereh attempted to build a plot that the first three books desperately lacked, and in terms of that, this book is the strongest in the series. yes, it was dull, lousy at places, and the flashbacks were torturous, but ngl the plot twists (even tho amnesia plot twists are a cheap exit) still got me looking at the invisible camera. the only problem is me not feeling any emotions. even after 5 books and 3 novellas, i couldn't connect to any characters except Kenji.
the book was so draining. (view spoiler)[Anderson keeps reviving back to life AGAIN AND AGAIN (hide spoiler)] AND I'M TIRED OF HIS CRUSTY ASS!!! just die already bro ffs. it's not like he does anything productive while being alive.
the entire book was set in a flashback, and it was soooo repetitive!!! we see a flashback from juliette's pov, then the same flashback is seen from warner's pov and then the same flashback is repeated by juliette while explaining shit to kenji, and then it'll be mentioned again in someone's inner monologue. (view spoiler)[like we get it that Ella and Aaron have fallen in love again and again even after the world tried ripping them apart back to back (hide spoiler)] TAHEREH GIRL WE GET IT TRUST ME!! NO NEED TO REPEAT IT LIKE A THOUSAND FUCKING TIMES.
and just when we think the plot is going somewhere or we're gonna get some answers, someone injects/hits/muffles/kidnaps them and they faint to nothingness. and in the rarest of moments when they're conscious and the answers are being dangled in front of us, some stupid bitch asks them to rest/eat/shower first. "you've had a long journey and this discussion is to be had with a clear head." OR "i was waiting for the right moment to tell you. i didn't think you'd be able to digest all this reality with already so much going in your life." and in the meantime, they get kidnapped again and we're refrained from getting the answers. BITCH I'M TIRED.
(view spoiler)[Juliette's sudden name switch to Ella was so weird. All of a sudden, everyone starts calling her Ella. It's like she went into a coma for a day and when she woke up her entire identity was renovated. And we're supposed to accept it and move on as if that shit is normal. I HATEDDDD WHEN AARON STARTED CALLING JULIETTE ELLA. (hide spoiler)]
Warner and Juliette, or should i say (view spoiler)[Aaron and Ella (hide spoiler)], felt like completely different characters by the end of the book. I know the truth has changed them, but it's still weird and undigestable to throw all the character development out of the window and present them as completely new characters with completely new personalities. amnesia, as a said, is a cheap pathway to plot twists and really defeats the purpose of previous books.
idk man, no matter how much i try, i'm not feeling it. something seems to be missing from these books, something vital that's holding me back from enjoying this series. but well, now that i've dragged myself so far, i might as well complete the entire series. onto the last book!
Fucktards. Every single one of them. No one deserves my sweet warrior, Juliette.
This book was really different from the previous ones. The involvementFucktards. Every single one of them. No one deserves my sweet warrior, Juliette.
This book was really different from the previous ones. The involvement of other characters were nil. There was no Adam, no James, No Brendan, Winston, Alia, Healer Twins, Ian, Lily, etc. I mean they were there, but they had zero involvement. They were like a noise faded along with the previous books.
This was about Juliette's struggles as a supreme commander, her and Warner's relationship falling apart, her learning her entire life has been a lie and Castle peeping in from time to time as a freak, whispering in a ghostly voice that he knows compromising things about them. That's it.
Adam appeared only 2 times. And both were to strengthen his bond with Warner as a brother. The moments felt mechanical but i get it lmao. Must be awkward for them. For the rest of the book, Adam is non-existent. He stays back in the base, away from all the drama and danger because he doesn't care about anything anymore except protecting his baby brother, James. And honestly? He's so real for that lmaoo...more

adam is not upto the standards of a typical book boyfriend, and that's why he's hated so much. he's selfish, he'll always prefer his baby brother over his lover, and he insists on leaving juliette behind because she'll slow them down. he's straightforward with his priorities and honestly? respect. i mean juliette DID slow them down...more
this book was all about juliette's growth as a character. how she was a timid, scared, ignorant child who used to see the world in black and white andthis book was all about juliette's growth as a character. how she was a timid, scared, ignorant child who used to see the world in black and white and how she gradually changed, understood and adapted herself to the harsh realities of this cruel world. unravel me, although quite slow and stagnant for a dystopian novel, was a necessary addition to this series.
i personally think, it is kenji and castle that actually shaped juliette's character arc. both adam and warner keep treating her like a hothouse flower that needs to be protected at all times; they treat her like a bleak object that'll shatter apart with a single bristle. both of them are so possessive over her, and NOT in a good way. they keep on telling her how she should think, how she should live her life, what kind of people she should choose. kenji and castle do not see her as a broken object that needs to be coddled every now and then, they see her as a brave soul who survived hell and who has the capability to reign hell. they see a lost warrior who needs to get the fuck up and do things that needed to be done because this world is not forgiving. they slap her with harsh realities and THIS is what gave her the final push to grow from a place of vulnerability to one of strength and agency.

took the whole book and couldn't even get the foundation of the plot to be laid well, forget about the plot itself. tahereh was too busy having two hot guys fight for a naive girl and even that wasn't done well, because why are we getting L bombs right after their first interaction? did this book even manage to achieve anything?
i don't care about any of these characters so far. juliette is too naive and ignorant for my taste. all she did was blush to adam's words. that's it. that's all her role was. warner and kenji's presence were very minimal so no feelings for them. adam was... uninteresting. he seems like a good guy. he is a soldier, he cares about people around him, he has a little brother that he would die for (bonus points). if i'm being honest? i don't get the adam hate. so far, he hasn't done anything wrong. and his instalove for juliette seems genuine. it's quite obvious this particular book favours adam over warner, heck even all the characters favour (and love) adam. do i love him? um- i don't really care. and juliette and adam together were very pathetic and banal. they aren't my typa couple. too cheesy and insta-everything. also, for some reason i don't trust adam.
warner is giving desperation and not in a cute way. he looks pathetic.
i know that the fandom favours warner and this tells me that further in the series adam will do something out of character, or betray them in some sort of way in order for warner's character to shine. typical love triangle bullshit the authors pull, but for me that's lazy writing and lack of character development by giving us a personality whiplash. booo ...more

the SOLE reason why this series is so unbearable to me is this trio: Aelin Ashryver Galathynius, Rowan Whitethorn, Aedion Ashryver, and unfortunately now Lysandra has also joined the cause.
I. JUST. CAN'T. STAND. THEM.
the mary sue trope absolutely grates on my nerves. ohh Aelin is so perfect, she's so beautiful, she's so kind, she's so selfless, she's so brave, she's such a warrior, she's so smart, how Aelin can do nothing wrong ever in her life OH AELIN THIS AELIN THAT- SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP.
in words of nenia: Everyone is obsessed with the heroine and won't shut up about her, whether they hate her or want to be her or just want her. I got really tired of hearing how Queen Special specialed her specials in order to proceed on her special quest to special to the land of Special to special the lost special.
the Aelin Galathynius dickriding is actually insane. or shall i say pussy riding? given how every man and their dad wants to fuck her and can't seem to get enough of her.
no actually i want y'all to name a single man (or woman) who isn't entranced by our oh-so-brave-and-beautiful queen of terrasen. let me give you a list-
1. Prequel- Sam, Illias, Arobynn 2. Book 1- Dorian, Chaol, Reese 3. Book 2- Chaol, Dorian 4. Book 3- Rowan 5. Book 4- Rowan, Chaol, Aedion, Arobynn 6. Book 5- Rowan, and now Fenrys has joined the gang as SJM emphasized heavily how Fenrys found Aelin interesting and wanted to train her himself rather than Rowan.
and i'm yet to list the women who are enchanted by her. Lysandra has no existence or motive in life besides being Aelin's lap dog. what was such a beautiful friendship in the previous book, has been forged into this pathetic, submissive leashed relationship.
sarah j mass couldn't stomach giving anyone except her lovely Aelin even an ounce of personality or uniqueness, because how can anyone DARE overshadow Aelin in any aspect of this series ...more

chaol and yrene were good, but sartaq and nesryn ATE.
“I told him, Sartaq said at last, “that I planned to lead the rukhin against Erawan, with or without his consent.
Worse. This was getting worse and worse. She wished his face weren’t so damn unreadable.
Sartaq took a breath. “He asked me why.
“I hope you told him that the fate of the world might depend upon it.
Sartaq chuckled. “I did. But I also told him that the woman I love now plans to head into war. And I intend to follow her.
She didn’t let the words sink in. Didn’t let herself believe any of it, until he’d finished.
“He told me that you are common-born. That a would-be Heir of the khagan needs to wed a princess, or a lady, or someone with lands and alliances to offer.
Her throat closed up. She tried to shut out the sound, the words. Didn’t want to hear the rest.
But Sartaq took her hand. “I told him if that was what it took to be chosen as Heir, I didn’t want it. And I walked out.
Nesryn sucked in a breath. “Are you insane?
Sartaq smiled faintly. “I certainly hope not, for the sake of this empire. He tugged her closer, until their bodies were nearly touching. “Because my father appointed me Heir before I could walk out of the room.
Nesryn left her body. Could only manage to breathe.
And when she tried to bow, Sartaq gripped her shoulders tightly. Stopped her before her head could even lower.
“Never from you, he said quietly.
Heir—he’d been made Heir. To all this. This land she loved, this land she still wished to explore so much it ached.
Sartaq lifted a hand to cup her cheek, his calluses scraping against her skin. “We fly to war. Much is uncertain ahead. Save for this. He brushed his mouth against hers. “Save for what I feel for you. No demon army, no dark queen or king, will change that.
Nesryn shook, letting the words sink in. “I—Sartaq, you are Heir—
He pulled back to study her again. “We will go to war, Nesryn Faliq. And when we shatter Erawan and his armies, when the darkness is at last banished from this world Then you and I will fly back here. Together. He kissed her again—a bare caress of his mouth. “And so we shall remain for the rest of our days.
She heard the offer, the promise.
The world he laid at her feet.
She trembled at it. What he so freely gave. Not the empire and crown, but the life. His heart.
Nesryn wondered if he knew her heart had been his from that very first ride atop Kadara.
Sartaq smiled as if to say yes, he had.
So she wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him.
It was tentative, and soft, and full of wonder, that kiss. He tasted like the wind, like a mountain spring. He tasted like home.
Nesryn clasped his face in her hands as she pulled back. “To war, Sartaq, she breathed, memorizing every line of his face. “And then we’ll see what comes after.
i have loved chaol since book 1 and nothing he ever did made me hate him, because for me, he is one of the most human, flawed character of this series, something this series clearly lacks with the mary sue trope the author loves dragging around; but i still wonder why SJM bothered giving chaol his own full length 700 page book. not that i'm complaining but still, given how almost everyone seems to hate his guts and sjm herself doesn't seem to care about him enough in previous books. i wonder what changed, i wonder what compelled sarah j mass to give chaol's mental and physical healing her full, unwavering attention. whatever her thought behind this book was, it worked, bcz this book was beautiful
“Using the chair is not a punishment. It is not a prison, he said. “It never was. And I am as much of a man in that chair, or with that cane, as I am standing on my feet. He brushed away the tear that slipped down her cheek.
“I wanted to heal you, she breathed.
“You did, he said, smiling. “Yrene, in every way that truly matters You did.
Chaol wiped away the other tears that fell, brushing a kiss to her hot cheek.
“We don’t look back, he said, meeting her stare. “It helps no one and nothing to look back. The way he said it It seemed as if it meant something more. To him, at least.
But Chaol’s smile grew, his eyes lighting as he added, “We can only go on.

how can one write a novella with so much action, emotions, friendships, betrayal and plot twists?? it's a fucking nove“Live a little, Sardothien!
how can one write a novella with so much action, emotions, friendships, betrayal and plot twists?? it's a fucking novella and SJM still managed to sneak in allat lmao. i found this novella to be a tad bit boring as compared to the previous one but the ending made up for it.
also, i must admit this one to be lowkey predictable. the moment ansel refused to take celaena to the court, the moment the merchant said that some spy and are working together, the moment we saw ansel's jovial attitude after chatting with the enemy, i knew. i sniffed the betrayal. but it still hurt.
“If you can learn to endure pain, you can survive anything. Some people learn to embrace it—to love it. Some endure it through drowning it in sorrow, or by making themselves forget. Others turn it into anger. But Ansel let her pain become hate, and let it consume her until she became something else entirely—a person I don’t think she ever wished to be.
i like how each novella depicts various instances in celaena's life that teaches her (and us readers) a valuable lesson. we can see how each of these incidents played a vital role in shaping celaena's thoughts and beliefs and in making her a warrior, a better person and a better woman, leaving behind the corrupted monster arobynn hamel tried to create.
The Mute Master of The Silent Assassins was such an intriguing and wonderful character to read.
“When you give your master his letter, also give him this. And tell him that in the Red Desert, we do not abuse our disciples.
he and arobynn are so antithetical to each other that it's refreshing! i love him so much and he is the torch amongst the darkness that sheds light on how horrible and disgusting of a person arobynn hamel is.
one of my major complaints from these novellas is how little we're getting of Sam Cortland. the sole reason i'm reading the assassin's blade is HIM and he is so irrelevant here that it's offensive. in this particular novella, we got only a glimpse of sam and that too was via celaena's thoughts.
And Celaena felt it. She felt each footstep, the phantom bruises on her face throbbing with the memory of Arobynn’s fists. And suddenly, as the memory of that day echoed through her, she remembered the words Sam kept screaming at Arobynn as the King of the Assassins beat her, the words that she somehow had forgotten in the fog of pain: I’ll kill you!
Sam had said it like he meant it. He’d bellowed it. Again and again and again.
