i'm ngl i cried a few times reading this. such a well-written deep dive into the concept of beauty from the perspective of a high school girl was reali'm ngl i cried a few times reading this. such a well-written deep dive into the concept of beauty from the perspective of a high school girl was really not what i expected. especially how this was from the perspective of a brown girl ... GOD. it felt like i was reading my own diary from high school at some points. this was also such a fun book as a high school romance, really hit all the marks so well. i was also thinking how well it could be adapted into a movie, but mainstream media is really not ready for the idea that beauty shouldn't be tied to your worth as a person. seeing any book about appearances step away from the concept of "inner beauty" in favor of body neutrality was an awesome level of maturity for this novel to achieve but not slamming the message into your face the whole time was even more impressive. i really liked the pacing of the story, it felt so real that TJ had so many aspects of her life demanding her attention at all times-- ALL OF HIGH SCHOOL FEELS LIKE THIS. idk i just really like this book, it's leagues above most YA romances while still being lighthearted and fun. ...more
