Being a self proclaimed depressive fit perfectly with the type of person I imagined this author to be. There was not an ounce of happiness in this story. (Ok possibly the very end depending on how you look at it) I am a dog lover! If 15 dogs are going to be released from a veterinary clinic most are going to be seeking love and affection. A disturbing, yet beautiful love story that I became completely lost in. The author's writing style captivated me from the first page. The title is perfect as there is an abundance of ugly as well as beautiful found within the pages of Wavy's story. Wavonna (Wavy) and Donal are the disturbed children of extremely neglectful parents. They live on a ranch where their father has a meth lab which distributes drugs and their mother is a drug addict/alcoholic. One day Wavy meets Kellen, a mechanic in his twenties, who works for her father. A kind-hearted soul, he begins taking care of the children. As time goes by, a bond of love forms between Wavy and Kellen. As Wavy begins to sexually mature it all comes to a head on the day she turns fourteen. No one's life will ever be the same. A compelling story written in many different points of view. Not an easy read but so worth the difficult journey! A unique and unconventional love story that is completely unforgettable....more
