They're ridiculous and funny and the Wolf is well meaning but still a wolf.
Art is hilarious and there are no text heavy pages, making this great for folks who struggle with reading as well as those of us who don't have the greatest attention spans. Should appeal to Captain Underwear fans and probably to some Elephant and Piggie fans as well. While it's definitely a great early chapter book it could also be a great read aloud, especially given the lack of over wordy pages and the delightful art....more

Brain wants everyone to smell his foot; Chick is obsessed with manners (and correcting them), and between them, they sound a lot like plenty of small folks out there who are themselves learning about manners. Cece Bell's illustrations, while cheerfully goofy, showcase every character's emotions, letting readers in on what's going down well before the characters themselves may know.
Smell My Foot! will be a great early chapter book, but I think it could also be a fantastic and goofy read aloud. Fun all around....more

Bowwow Powwow is a marvelous introduction to the Ojibwe powwow, letting readers learn about traditions through Windy Girl's dream. The art has a bit of a video game feel, as though one could start playing the characters; it should appeal to many.
I would have preferred it had the Ojibwe text NOT been italicized, but that is an accessibility issue for me, which is why I notice; it may not be a problem for others....more

Mika Song's illustrations are lovely, and do a fantastic job of demonstrating various characters' feelings, even when they aren't always clear to Henry.
This would be a great read aloud, and does a good job of exploring differences with compassion and without judgement....more

It's a reassuring book, one where that eternal love is emphasized across species and worlds to finally end with "...you and I turned into we," complete with a painting that sure looks based on the photograph of Kotb and her daughter.
My one critique is with a printing choice: the words "I've loved you since forever," as well as those very last "...you and I turned into we," are printed in a swirling, quasi-cursive. Which is very pretty—it's a great stylistic choice, it really is—but as someone who's severely dyslexic, I know how hard it can be to read. On the other hand, it is printed large, and feels much like a refrain, making it a lot easier to suss out than it might otherwise be.
I've Loved You Since Forever would work as a read-aloud; it's definitely also a perfect, comforting bedtime story....more

It's a great antidote to a lot of the discourse around older adults, and provides really lovely illustrations of people going about their lives.
There is limited text on each page; some words are larger or made bold, drawing readers in, and the illustrations are a delight. This would be fun to read to one or two kids, but could also be great for a storytime involving many....more
