Bits of information and humor in small clever doses. As with anything else, there can always be too much of a good thing. Instead of small doses, it seems that someone has turned on the bathtub taps to the point where the whole waterlogged second floor has fallen and become the first floor!
The dog is the character on the cover of this book, which was one of my major reasons for choosing this book. But so far, any appearance or mention of the dog has been nearly nonexistent. Now I remember reading a previous book years ago by with the main character being Alex
The reason I got that book was because it seemed the story would be centered around the dog. It was not and neither is this book. I guess this is supposed to be a mystery but it seems that Mr. book’s but they seem to be an Quip Outlet. ...more

It is so utterly depressing. Twisted and dark. I’ve actually got to page 245 before realizing/admitting this book has very little redeeming value. Is it just because people want to see how sick and disgusting other people are? Is it like straining to look at a horrible, fatal crash car crash along the highway or is it some kind of justification for the way they’re living or, another possibility, to make themselves feel good about their lives. I couldn’t understand the fascination with Girl on a Train. I started but I never finished that book. I decided I didn’t want to go down that rabbit hole. But this one, I think, surpasses all of the bad things in Girl on a Train. It did deserve the one star I gave it because now I understand how hoarders, at least some, actually feel about the things they gather about them....more

First of all I want to say that any woman or person, for that matter, who worked during this tremendously hard time of World War II deserves recognition But, the author seems to think that they were no ordinary people here. Or their stories just didn’t matter to this author. She seems to record story of every woman who worked at the agency that had some kind of exclusive social standing. This reads like a social register of the OSS. After the first two or three I couldn’t care debutante’s privileged lives. The author readily admits that this was an organization of “it’s who you know. if the author had selected a small percentage of the women and concentrated on their stories, it could’ve been worth it. And maybe, if she included just two or three women who were not upper-crust society ladies, and told their story... She didn’t and therefore this book ends up on my too-awful-to-waste-my/time shelf....more

And Morgan lets her get away with everythiMargot is trying hard to be a good mother to her son and daughter. Her daughter is a complete little bitch. And Morgan lets her get away with everything which is just teaching her that she can get away everything. Kids don’t really want to get away with everything. They want their parents, to care enough about them that they will teach them and discipline them. Michelle wants to draw closer to her mother badly and yet this girl, who should know right from wrong by now, is extremely mean to her mother. When she swears at or around her mother, especially with the F word she needs to be disciplined strongly. Doing otherwise invites more disrespect and bad behavior in and out of the home. It is amazing how disrespectful parents allow their children to be. No wonder they grow up having no respect for authority. The first time I talked back to my mother I was maybe seven or eight. She got me down on my back on the floor, she straddled me and held my hands up above my head and with the back of her fingers smacked my mouth rapidly and lightly about... for maybe about five or 10 seconds. Some would label that as child-abuse but it was completely NOT. My lips were never bruised. They stung a bit for about two or three minutes. Period. But the helplessness of being held down and the irritation of having fingers smacking your lips, not even that hard, taught me that I better respect her. She did have to do this twice, The second was later on when I got mouthy again at 10 or 11. I never ever disrespected my mother until the day that she died at 89. If you consider this too harsh, OK. Find some other way. My sister-in-law‘s way was threatening them with one of those disciplinarian boot camps. She actually got one of the camps to send her pamphlets what she conveniently left around the house. BB is one messed up woman. Selfish and definitely not a good mother to sweet Sarah. This is the type of woman that commits child abuse every day simply by being such a horrible mother. Amazing that BB would let this abusive man, Mitch, drive Michelle home. Unbelievable! Michelle was very lucky. And then!,! She calls him when she’s on vacation and humiliates herself. Claire names her daughter Puffin?!? And goes off to Europe alone every year & finds lovers?
THAT’S IT!!! Most of the people in this book, especially the women and girls, are so stupid or ignorant or mean or self-centered… I can’t deal with it anymore. Here’s some of my thoughts up until this section;
Friends are people who laugh at your jokes? That’s it? Maybe it’s the millennial generation but if that’s Suzanne‘s idea of friends is those people who laugh at your jokes? I wonder if this is the new standard of people who communicate constantly via social media and all of its abbreviations, but without any actual facial and tonal communication. So glad I am not younger! How’s that for a very unusual statement? I have angels in my life. I know I do. We SEE, HEAR and react to how our friends are Feeling. Sometimes when we are overwhelmed, it is hard to put our feelings into words. It’s hard to even put it out there that we are feeling depressed or upset. The other day I spoke on the phone to my best friend and knew after about three minutes that something was wrong. I asked her what it was. But turned out she was feeling very hurt by one of her sons regarding her upcoming visit to him and his family. We didn’t actually come up with a “solution but she appreciated the sympathy and empathy involved as we discussed what the next step would be. She felt better afterwards for having talked about it with someone who cares. You don’t get that through social media media. It’s no wonder so many people, especially the young people of today just lack compassion. Could there be less depression and even less suicides if people communicated either face-to-face or at least over the phone when you can hear feelings? Oh, yes. OK I got to page 65 and really, I just can’t stand it anymore. Suzanne is just an overgrown goofy mean girl. The time reading this book has been totally wasted. PS Consider the one star a -*. I just had to write up the experience of my next book here. It is a young adult book and, even though I am a senior citizen, these are sometime so rewarding. The book I read was Molly‘s Story by W Bruce Cameron. It’s also a very small book but this book is absolutely great. Just what I needed to wash the bad taste of “Suzanne out of my brain....more

There are parts that are unnecessarily crass but, OK since were talking about this, supposedly, stud’s life. In fact it kind of seems John Sanford really enjoys making Lucas some kind of big, hunk, sexy idol. I usually see this kind of lead character in the romance novels that I occasionally read if it’s funny enough. It starts out good in the present with the discovery of two young girls bodies. BTW, they’ve been mummified but there’s no explanation for that. Then it switches to when the girls first disappeared and the case was investigated, most intensely, by a rookie homicide cop Lucas and it goes downhill from there. Maybe part of it is because there are absolutely major female characters and it takes men and women to make a good book just like in real life. I find either way, all or female or all male just doesn’t work in any genre. I’m giving them one star and that’s for the first chapter only. Too many good books out there to read one that’s just simply boring. Now, I am going to a fluffy little animal book. I am hopeful that it will at least be funny....more
