This is def. for anyone who is a rational skeptic but wants to learn more about NDEs - because they are trying to reconcile it with their own worldview. Dr. Greyson masterfully sets up question after question, that would also be my next logical question and addresses them based on the data. I loved it, especially the first ten chapters....more

I enjoyed the story and the audiobook narrator Scott Brick is fantastic. It's a mystery story that keeps revealing new levels of intrigue as you go and I liked that. The only area of opportunity I saw was that it was rather repetitive in some places restating the internal conflict of the characters at ever eyebrow furl and slight smirk. But I read the unabridged version, the abridged is often superior I find, because editing matters....more

The story is about the two bestfriends and the boyfriend of a star soccer player who tragically overdoses. It follows the three young main characters for the first 30 or so days immediately after the incident. The tag is 'For fans of 13 reasons why" - and this is true if what you loved about that series was its exploration of the darkest sides of teenage angst. But if you liked that show because it was trying to answer - why the suicide happened - as in it was built like a mystery being solved - you will not like this book. That Night - isn't a mystery, it isn't concerned with answering questions about the tragic overdose itself, so don't expect that or you will be disappointed. But if you can appreciate it for what it is, a deep dive into what its like to lose a peer at a young age then you will feel very satisfied by this book. ...more

My Mom was reading it with her boyfriend because we were all going to Maui. I decided to read it too so I would have something to talk about with them. I enjoyed the descriptions of all of the cool places the zany plot takes the two main characters as they chase down their target. And I liked how the story moved. But, for me the chemistry between the main characters felt forced, and it just wasn't a rewarding read. Other reviews have said it pretty well, lacks substance and the comedy was flat. Apparently her other books are better. When I read it I was like, 'this is what people are publishing? I can do this...." LOLOL Maybe I will give the first book in this series a try since it seems to be so well loved....more

I loved the explosive inciting incident. I liked the tragic downward spiral of the main character and I enjoyed how the painting of the Goldfinch was intertwined with the larger plot. That said, I found the last one hundred pages... unnecessary. I resented having to read them in order to say I finished this book, when I don't feel like they would have been missed. I have to knock it down two stars because 100 pages is a lot....more

What I really liked about this series was the full speed ahead straight forward storytelling that is so well done in YA these days. I also think Collins does a great job of weaving character and plot. I can't call it character driven, but she really makes you care about these characters especially Katniss. Team Peeta!
I'm not a huge fan of dystopian sci-fi. It's just such a bummer you know.. ? So that is why its only 4 stars. The premise is a bit pessimistic for me. (I'm in escrow on a condo in District One)...more

I loved this book so much, I proceeded to buy and read all of her other books. I've re-read this first one twice. This book is for those who would like to at least fantasize about picking up their lives and moving to countries like Costa Rica, Mexico, Indonesia, the Philippines etc... Nadine tells the all too familiar story of American burnout, from the perspective of someone who was never a "free spirit." And she tells it hilariously! I had to read sections of it to my husband who would literally laugh out loud. He started requesting me read him a chapter in the mornings. When Nadine and Rob end up in Costa Rica she brilliantly removed the sugar coating from this sweet fantasy. Yes 'brilliantly!' I said what I said. Pisani has a gift for capturing outrageous incidents of culture shock, misunderstandings, and the antics of her affable husband Rob - to the delight of the reader. Despite the side-splitting mishaps, the author still sells the light hearted fantasy, and I must tip my cap to her.
Her books led me to a whole slew of escape to Costa Rica memoirs. I've read three by other authors and I feel I could teach a course on the genre at Udemy. But THIS one is the gold standard in my opinion. I highly recommend this book!...more
