This book in the series didn't hold my attention like some of the other titles did. It almost seemed like a placeholder between Bks. 9 and 11. Still, it was fun to be back in Bon Temps with Sookie and the rest of the group!...more

AEach child in the Beaumont family receives a special power or "savvy" when they turn 13 years old. Older brother Rocket's savvy affects electricity. Another brother, Fish, has a savvy that affects the weather. It is almost time for Mibs Beaumont to turn 13 and she is so excited because she wants to find out what her savvy is. On her birthday, her father is in a terrible accident and is in a coma in a hospital many miles away. Rocket and Mama go to visit Papa in the hospital living Mibs, Fish and younger brother Samson at home to celebrate at Mibs' birthday party which Pastor Meeks and his wife have thrown for her. Samson has a turtle that has been totally dead for quite awhile. Everyone but Samson, believes the turtle to be dead. On her birthday, Mibs looks at the turtle and he suddenly pokes his head out of his shell! Believing that her savvy is to bring things back to life, she is sure that if she could just get to papa, she could bring him out of his coma! But how will she get to the hospital in Salina, Kansas? She notices a large pink bus in the parking lot of the church with a sign advertising Bibles and the address of the company is Salina, Kansas! She stows away on the bus (and eventually so does Fish, Samson, and the pastor's two children, Bobbie and Will) hoping she will get to Salina that way. But when the bus turns in a different direction, Mibs is panicked! What will she do now?
This is an enchanting novel. Law uses various literary devices (such as alliteration and onamatopeia) to spice up her narrative. Her "voice" for Mibs is true to that of a 12 year old girl. There is plenty of humor and excitement and once started is very hard to put down! Readers will laugh and cry....more

The only problem is, he's a vampire and he seems to run with a pretty bad crowd. When a young woman is murdered, everyone immediately suspects Bill and the vampires he hangs out with.
This is the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series. I started the series in the middle and now I'm going back to read the first books in the series. I really enjoy and characters and plot of this series, even though I'm not a huge fan of vampire stories. This series is habit-forming!...more

She also must fight off evil fairies who are trying to kill her in order to depose her Great Uncle who is king of the fairy world. Liz has no magic and has never quite fit in with her family and their friends. The story is told over many decades and each chapter is told from a different perspective. In the course of the novel, you see the world of sorcery change as it tries to keep up with the changes going on in the rest of society. There are parallels between the non-magic and magic worlds as each culture tries to deal with the increase in crime and violence and it becomes evident that the two cultures aren't really that different.
This is a very unique book. I haven't read anything quite like it before. It was very intriguing and it makes me wonder if there aren't sorcerors all around us, practicing their magic....more

I've been listening to the Mediator series on CD and thoroughy enjoying it. Somehow, the audio version makes the story come alive. The reader, Johanna Parker, has the voice of a 16 year old girl down pat and fully inserts the humorous voice of a typical Meg Cabot character....more

Even though the heroine is a medium, it doesn't change the fact that she is a "normal" teenage girl with the same problems all teenage girls have with friends, romance, and family.
