Chuck. Ella. Kirsten. Separately, each of them is feeling extreme grief as they lament the loss of a loved one. Their reasons for grieving are uniquely different cancer, kidnapping, gun violence but their emotions about this loss finds a way to connect them to each other.
But before that happens, readers can feel their worlds move slowly, introspectively and painfully as they shuffle through life without that one person who made such a difference to them. Will they be able to move on from their grief?
When all seems lost, there is always someone who comes in to their life and helps to bring closure to that past, and hope for their future. A neighbor. A dog named Cocoa. The 3 mains connecting and finding solace in each other’s company. Will it be enough?
“Your other life awaits.
This is a heart-felt, poignant, emotionally touching story of extraordinary people who struggle with their loss. And, through time, redemptive circumstances and friendship find a way to live again.
With beautifully memorable characters, readers can’t help but want the best for their journey to Hope. Where finding strength in themselves to move forward with their life, may also lead them to become whole again.

“I’m not sure adding a second author is going to save James Patterson any longer.
Within the review, I was referencing his pattern of formulaic writing. For complete review go here: /review/show...
So, why do I bring this up? Because, for whatever reason, I am still reading James Patterson and his various co-author’s books. Why?
First, I was curious about “Eruption which was him partnering with the long-dead author, Michael Crichton, which his part was written long before his death. 3.5 stars rounded down.
Second, I am a fan of Miss Marple and Sherlock Holmes, so I was curious about his book, “Holmes, Marple & Poe. 3.5 stars rounded up. When I attempted to read the second in the series, I found myself DNF’ing it and returning it to my local library.
Third, I also wondered how things would work out with his partnership with Dolly Parton, since I am a long-time fan of hers, when they co-wrote, “Run, Rose Run. 3 stars (I loved Dolly’s part, but it wasn’t enough.)
Forth, how could I resist his partnership with former President Bill Clinton, when they co-wrote, “The President is Missing? 3 stars
Fifth, his books are one of the most “checked out and donated to my Little Free Library Shed.
And, lastly as a lover of libraries and bookstores, I couldn’t resist being curious about his “The Secret Lives of Booksellers and Librarians. Woo hoo, 5 stars!
So, there you have it. At least 6 reasons why I was still reading James Patterson. But to be honest, I am not giving his books very high ratings, other than his non-fiction book, “The Secret Lives…
So, why even read another one of his thrillers?
Good question.
On the cover of this book, it says very specifically
“You’ll never forget the ending.
Is that enough to entice me? So, I asked myself if I should just read the ending and be done with James Patterson. (I didn’t do that.)
Would his co-author, J.D. Barker change my mind about this book?
It appears that J.D. Barker, an international bestselling American author on his own, has also been a prolific writer. But I have never read any of his books. Probably because his suspense thrillers incorporate horror, science fiction and the supernatural. Not my genres. But if it is yours, maybe this pairing might make you curious enough to read Barker’s books.
Well, I did read this book. So, how did I really feel about it? What do my stars above say?
2.5 stars rounded up for quick page-turner!
We have a best-selling author, a murdered husband, and Detective Declan Shaw being requested at the scene. Is this a set-up? To what? And why?
To say anything more about this story would give too much away. So, I will get straight to the point, because obviously I haven’t throughout this review.
This story is so full of twists and red herrings, and more twists, that I felt like I was experiencing whiplash throughout. My neck hurts from all the twists. And then, there is that ending. Meow! ...more

So, now that we got that out of the way, on to the review.
What happens when a spoiled heiress is suddenly left penniless and homeless because of her grandmother’s unfortunate murder and a clause in her will? In the case of Pomona, she becomes Gabe’s roommate, who was the son of her former nanny, and now, the investigator into her grandmother’s murder.
Now, this may not be an easy task. Her grandmother wasn’t exactly likable. So, there are a lot of suspects as to who could be her murderer. And, in many ways, Pomona wasn’t very likable either, during her rich, spoiled stage. But what personal evolution occurs when Pomona suddenly has to find a way to make ends meet? Will this change be transforming for her and maybe readers attitude about her, too?
With a romantic sub-plot, and, flawed but memorable characters, this who-dunit will undoubtedly keep some readers engaged. The story is also a somewhat entertaining, sweet, cute, clever and cozy mystery. Especially with a cat named Squeaky, whose purr should charm any reader....more

This is the 2nd book in the Dream Harbor series. The first story was called “The Pumpkin Spice Café. It told the story of Jeanie and Logan. So, even though this book is interconnected with book 1, it still can be read as a stand-alone.
To be honest, I wasn’t attracted to this story because it was the 2nd in the series. What got my attention was the title of the book. (The fact that the story includes a bookstore as a backdrop, is appealing, too!) And, I love the book cover. Look at that scene! Books, and more books, a cat entering the bookstore, and the sweet smell of freshly cooked cinnamon buns. Okay, we obviously can’t smell them, but what is life without a little imagination? After all, isn’t that at least one of the reasons we read?
This book tells the story of Hazel Kelly and Noah. For Hazel who has spent the last 15 years working at the bookstore in Dream Harbor, she is suddenly realizing how much life she hasn’t lived yet. And, how important it is for her to find adventure before her 30th birthday coming up in September.
And, then there is Noah, who came to the town to escape a family business, and do something that suits his style and interest more. What can Noah do for Hazel to help her find the adventure she craves, and perhaps, maybe even help her find him in the process?
And, what better way to add to the characters experience than a tiny mystery. Where quote clues are left in romance novels, through highlighting a specific passage. Who dares to write inside a book shelved for sale? Will these clues give Hazel direction for where her adventure can take her? Still, who is the mystery clue writer? And, were these clues left for Hazel specifically to find? And, will Noah be able to fulfill Hazel’s dreams for change in her life, which may lead to both experiencing a HEA? I know, lots of questions to be answered, right? What better way to peak readers interest about the book!
This is another cute, easy-to-read, slightly spicy and sweet cozy from this author, who knows how to create likable characters readers want to embrace....more

As a donation to my Little Free Library Shed, this became a wonderful re-visit to a book I read long ago.
How can we not be touched by books that are centered around dogs? Or a pet of some sort? In this case, a black labrador retriever named Lloyd-Cooper. Although on the cover of this book, he looks chocolate brown. Still, look at that cover, isn’t that face kissable?
Also, stories like this can certainly capture our attention. Especially when the main protagonist, Rocky, in this instance, are left in a place of such unsurmountable loss. And, just need to walk away from everything, not sure they can ever recover. And, of course, we know that when humans are in this difficult position, we sense intuitively, all they really need is the love of a good dog (pet) to bring them back to life. Or at least that is what we as readers can hope.
This truly is a story about healing. On so many levels. When Rocky escapes to Peak’s Island, to become an Animal Control Warden, we know this is going to be a new beginning for her after the loss of her husband. Her first rescues are an abandoned tabby cat, and Lloyd (whose real name is Cooper) who has been injured by an arrow. They all apparently need healing, too and, not just the physical kind.
It is also a story with a mystery. Because the owner of Lloyd-Cooper was found dead under suspicious circumstances. Killed by whom and why?
So, now that Rocky has Lloyd-Cooper, is she willing to solve the mystery of his owner’s death in order to keep him and save herself, too?
The story is told from differing points of view, including the dog’s. Which may or may not work for some. But it also can help the story flow and, provide a dog’s perspective to their world view.
The characters feel real, writing insightful, plot well-paced and the story heart-warming. Remember that book cover? That should at least make you somewhat interested, right? ...more

It seemed that I started this new year (2025) reading lots of books with older protagonists. I don’t know if I was in a particular mood, or if the books were just attracted to me. But for some reason they really worked well for me, and, I was enjoying them. And then, Margie Fisher contacted me and said that she thought I would relish her book because of the fun older protagonists. And, she was right.
It didn’t take long to find myself fully engaged in the lives of Debbie, Fran and Maria in Florida. But before we got there as readers, it was all about Bostonian (well a little town called Winslow) Debbie figuring out what she wanted for herself post-retirement. How about nice warm sandy beaches, no snow, and some relaxing fun?
“This is the beginning of my new me, and my new life.
This may not have been what her best-friend daughter, Lori envisioned for her. She preferred her mother moving with them to Delaware where her husband had just gotten a new job, and they had settled in with Debbie’s, two grandchildren. But Debbie was ready for a little freedom, and not the role of a live-in gr-nanny. Maybe this Florida landscape, known as Palmetto Pointe, and her newly formed girlfriend group called ‘The Cabernet Club was what she really needed.
And, as she settles in and finds things to do, like a part-time job, and joining the Creative Writing group, all seems well. But then there is that old high school nemesis surfacing, and dating at her age. How many challenges can she handle? Could health concerns be next?
I thoroughly enjoyed my romp through the pages of this book as I tagged along with Debbie and her friends. The characters were inspiring, relatable, and fun. And, the story is heart-warming. Who says it can’t be exciting during the “autumn of our life? Certainly not these characters! And, probably not me.
One last note
This book feels like a love letter to mother and daughter relationships. Something that I sense truly existed between this writing team; and, showcases well between the characters of Debbie and Lori. I have to believe the mother-daughter relationship between these co-authors was an extraordinary one. Especially now for Margie who continues to heal the loss of her dear mother, Rona, her co-author.

There is always a sense of sadness a reader can experience when they realize they are in the last book of a series they enjoy. I remember how I felt as I read the last book of one of my all-time favorite series by Elly Griffiths that featured Ruth Galloway, a forensic anthropologist. The Last Remains review here: /review/show... Even coming to the end of Jacqueline Winspear’s Maisie Dobbs series had a surreal feeling to it. The Comfort of Ghosts review here: /review/show...
So, how did I feel now reading my last Detective Superintendent Peter Diamond story? Especially since I truly enjoyed the author’s last book, “Showstopper. Review here: /review/show...
And, how can we not feel even more connected when the Detective’s long-time cat, Raffles plays a small role, or a sweet seeing-eye dog named Bella is introduced?
Which leads us into this next case, when Diamond takes a short holiday in the country with his partner, to visit former colleague, Julie Hargeaves. What is her motive for enticing Diamond to the country for this supposedly pleasant get-away? And, if there was a crime, what can Diamond’s presence do to uncover the possible truth? This isn’t even his jurisdiction, so what did Julie have in mind for him? Is this an investigation he really wants to take on?
“Already he was having second thoughts about becoming an Agatha Christie detective. How do the likes of Poirot have any credibility? He mused. No one challenges their right to be at the scene of the crime and interview every witness. It’s about reputation. They are tolerated because of all the cases they’ve solved. Anyone who complains goes to the top of the suspect list.
And, it turns out there were quite a few suspects.
“He had no patience with TV detectives like Jessica Fletcher, Miss Marple, and Hercule Poirot. The characters might be entertaining, but so is a fairy tale.
Regardless of his feelings for these famous characters, he still heads off on this “undercover investigation as if he were Columbo. A famous TV character played by the late great actor Peter Falk.
Diamond begins questioning everyone he can, to get to the bottom of this mystery. And, along the way he uncovers more than he ever expected. But having a dose of country, (him being a Bath man) does it also open doors for Diamond to realize that maybe he might be ready for retirement?
This easy-to-read, cozy mystery has many twists to this final story for our favorite Detective Superintendent, that should make fans fairly pleased with this ending to the series....more

She drinks too much, has a foul mouth and a penchant for saying exactly how she feels, that gets her in and out of trouble easily. But she is a true friend and Lucy and Angus will willingly attest to her loyalty.
When she loses her job as a flight attendant, she also dumps her cheating fiancé and heads back to school to earn her degree in viticulture. Lucy who was also a flight attendant, gets a settlement after an office accident and, starts her own business. Angus still flies the skies (for now) but will do anything to be there for both of them.
So, when it is time for Elle’s college internship, the 3 of them decide to take a wild drive up the California coastline, Hwy 1, before settling in to intern with Jude, a winemaker, in Sonoma (CA). Along the way Elle finds a kitten she names Luis, and also learns what is really going on with Lucy. (No spoilers from me.)
For readers, pages will turn as they follow Elle, Lucy and Angus, and the many other well-developed characters, through travel and business adventures; and, relationship dynamics and health challenges.
How will the best friends be able to navigate these changes? What new futures can they look forward to for themselves and those they connect with along the way?
This is an easy-to-read, page-turner with some laugh-out-loud humorous moments. It also includes flawed, but quirky characters that will take readers on an emotional, sometimes whip-fast rollercoaster ride.
The story sometimes flips back in forth in time without notice, which may at times be confusing for the reader. But those flips also help to provide insights into the characters and their motivations.
Mostly, this is a heart-felt story of enduring friendship, family, finding oneself, grief and loss, vulnerability, and love in all its many forms. There may be some Kleenex moments.

And, then ŷ friend, Darla mentioned to me that she had met the author when she read his book, “Otis and the Kittens. Well, having absolutely loved “The Yellow Bus how could I not be up for a book about kittens. Besides, I was curious about who or what could Otis possibly be?
“For the brave who run toward danger instead of away.
That quote is what greeted me when I first opened the pages. My husband and I had just got back from our morning walk with Oliver and Oscar, our two cardigan corgis. We had been feeling particularly low in energy from all the recent political turmoil in the United States, and trying to figure out how we could keep our moods upbeat and positive during such tumultuous times. With all that is going on, do we run towards danger instead of away? Or do we hide away and hope it doesn’t hurt us?
Well, one way is to stick my nose in a book like this one. To teach about working well with others and what it takes to look out for those who are in need.
So, what do you think happens in this cute little story?
Let’s meet Otis first. He is a tractor. That works the fields on the farm. With the other farm animals. And, one day Otis saw a cat running to the burning barn frantic. So, Otis raced to see what was the matter. And, before you know it, Otis is running into the burning barn, and then, coming out of the barn with a lot of kittens on his back.
But even if he could save all the kittens, could he save himself?
Never fear, all the farm animals love Otis. Will they do what they can to save him? (No spoilers from me.)

“It has been said that books find their own readers but sometimes they need someone to show them the way.
Isn’t that the truth? Think about how we feel about books. And then look at us readers when we enter a library. Books are staring at us on the shelves. Not just stacked, or neatly in a row, but staring out at us, saying, “pick me, I am the one you want to read next.
What do we usually do? We pick it, right?!
And, even when we venture into a bookstore, there might be some that stand out amongst the rest, with notes attached by staff members that say why they selected this book as their favorite ones. And, those sweet intimate notes tell us, the prospective reader/buyer, why we want to take that particular book home and make it our own, too.
Yes, it is always nice when others show us the way.
So, as in this book, it is not unusual, for a customer to be thrilled when long-time walking bookseller Carl Kollhoff says to one of his customers (Carl’s job is to deliver books from the bookstore he works at, by walking to people’s homes and providing personal hand delivery of those books)
“May I recommend a book that would make ideal bedtime reading?
And then, he tops it off with
“This book has been waiting for you since the moment it was unpacked.
Readers…Shall we swoon now? How can we not feel fully taken care of? Appreciated? Looked after in the best possible way?
Still Carl has his quirks. And, things aren’t as perfect for him as he would like it.
For one, the original owner has given the bookstore to his daughter. She isn’t quite enamored of Carl, even if he has known her since she was a baby.
And two, on all his walking book deliveries, Carl sees his world in books. So, the people he delivers books to aren’t known by their real names, but character names. It is easier for him to see the world that way.
And lastly, one particular day, the world brings a precocious 9-year-old named Schascha who decides to join him on his walks. What is he to do now?
“You need to read more. It makes the brain flexible, so that anything can fit into it.
But little does he know that this change may be the beginning of something quite unique and special for him.
Could it be a new sense of community that will change lives and routines in a very exceptional way?
Shall we start a book club, perhaps?
Or have conversations with the people, he delivers books to because Schascha brings this out in him and them? And, maybe just maybe the books they read, too? And, what about a cat named Dog? Will he find a HEA, too?
And, even as things change for Carl with his job, can readers hope for something magical to happen that will no doubt capture readers too?
Let’s just say that most likely readers will want to know what will happen to all the characters. Because, so many of them have something hidden behind their doors. And, we will become invested in all of them. And, more than anything, readers will be hopeful the most for Carl. Will he eventually come out of his shell? And, will the community be there for him, when he needs them most?
And, what about Schascha? What can readers hope for her?

I began this series years ago and then took a break. What I didn’t realize is that I had actually picked up and read this book and “Death Knells and Wedding Bells when the books initially came out. I. Just. Forgot. That. I. Did.
This is what happens when you read a lot of books. And, get hooked on a lot of series! What I didn’t do after reading these books the first time, was review them. So, that is what I will do now.
Oh goodness.
Bear with me. Please.
For anyone who is into this series, imagine yourself in front of a fireplace with a hot cocoa wrapped in your favorite comfy blanket. Because this is how one is meant to feel reading one of this author’s books. If you haven’t read this series, please start at the beginning.
Her mysteries are a low-key comfort cozy. Because this is that kind of a series. Those who are already into it, feel like you are one of their friends with the characters Lucy and Conner. And, as their friend, we can’t help but feel excited that they are finally moving into their first home together. A historical home that Conner and his Dad, have been newly renovating located on the Nags Head beach. We are also anxiously awaiting their wedding as planning is also happening between these pages.
But…and, there is that but, because in these stories, a murder does occur. And, of course, Lucy is always involved in trying to solve it. That’s quite the job for this librarian, right? And, it doesn’t help when this body shows up in their newly renovated old house.
Now, what was this person doing at their home? Now, knowing that this is a historic home, could something be hidden here that this individual could be looking for that the murderer also wanted? Hmmm
Sit back. Enjoy your cocoa. Stay warm in front of the fire. Because, who doesn’t love the beach and a library as their go-to-setting? And, there is always Charles the Library cat. (See cover!)
So, let the pages fly by as you enjoy the scenic setting, the historical background shared, along with whatever the Classic Novel Reading Club members may bring to the table. Sometimes we don’t want to, or even need to, work too hard with the mysteries we read. ...more

Was it real? Whether or not it was, there is something to be said about this deeply moving story.
Helen, an 80-something widow has given up on herself. Her life. And she has left everything behind and moved to her old home. That she grew up in at one point in her life. But everything she knew once, has changed, so why did she do it?
We can tell that Helen’s spirit is gone. And, it certainly is at this point as a reader that we are feeling her aloneness and sadness and loss of self and hope for anything more from this life.
Does this make it a depressing saga? Not necessarily. But it definitely will touch readers with its heart-felt moments. There is something relatable here. And, we can’t help but pay attention.
Helen is alone. Very alone. And, we definitely can feel that intensity of aloneness that is felt through aging. The author highlights it so well. And, for this I give him credit for having readers feel it so deeply. And, as readers, experiencing this intensity of aloneness, we can’t help but feel Helen, as we inhabit her movements, when one night, late, she goes out, and picks up her neighbor’s trash. There is something surreal about this, especially as she finds memories of her son in one of the toys she finds in that trash.
And, as readers we can’t help but be caught up in her aloneness and routines. And, her fascination with this trash, when there is this moment, as she is exploring and cleaning, she finds a…mouse? That she names Sipsworth. (Hence: the name of the book!) And, she makes it her mission to bring this mouse back to health.
Or does she? Hence, my confusion.
And, eventually she starts to meet people. And, now she has a life, worth living? And, friends who are helping her, help Sipsworth live? Yes, these are question marks.
But when it is time to have other people come and get Sipsworth the help it needs…no spoilers. Because that would give away everything. And, perhaps my confusion, most of all.
Still, the closeness of the community connection, takes Helen out of her head and creates something she didn’t have, which gives Van Booy’s writing a softness, and a sensitivity even in my confusion about the story. Because, even if I struggled to like or love it, I recognize there was something deep here. A place we all know that could happen to any one of us.
Questions that we might even ask ourselves.
How do we overcome this loneliness as we age? When people we loved in partnership are no longer with us? And, it is just us navigating this life on our own?
This was a very quick, one sitting read. But even as eloquent as the prose was, it was still a confusing read. Of a lonely lady who didn’t want to live, who found something (a mouse?) that gave her a reason to live. And, maybe that was the point? Definitely a compelling one. Maybe we all need something to give us a reason for living.
Side note: I know, even this one was an unusual one for me to pick as my last book for the year. But I have come to recognize that even around the holidays, not all people are in celebration mode. Look around you. Be sensitive. Be open to the private and hidden stories others might be harboring. Some might be in shadow or challenged by grief. I know that the holidays aren’t always filled with presents and joy for everyone. Wherever you are on your journey, please know you are not alone. Sending love and hugs and hearts and prayers and light to all who need and want it today and always. And, a radiance of blessings in 2025. ❤️...more

The one I wanted wasn’t available, and instead thI was actually looking for another book when I was searching the online catalog of my local library. The one I wanted wasn’t available, and instead this one came up in my search. I couldn’t resist the cover or the header, “A Magical Bookshop Mystery. So, I decided to order this one.
Now, having said that, I will be the first to tell anyone that the best thing to do with any series, is to begin by reading the first in the series. So, needless to say, even though it was an easy cozy read, I probably would have benefited more if I had started this series from the beginning. Unfortunately for me, this was the only book in the series that was available at my local library. But I still couldn’t resist trying it out.
I know, that had I had the opportunity to begin the series at the beginning, I would have had a better understanding of the charm and magic of the “Charming Books bookstore. Especially as it relates to the many characters that inhabit the place. Like its talking crow, Faulkner. Or the beautiful magical birch tree at the center of the store. Or the insightful tuxedo cat, Emerson, and the flying books that open to specific pages to give the proprietor, Violet important messages for the day to help her solve mysteries. And, then there is Grandmother Daisy who is also Mayor of the town, who was the previous proprietor. And then there is Police Chief David Rainwater who at the beginning of the story, is Violet’s fiancé, soon to be husband.
Of course, there are more characters that make up the small village of Cascade Springs outside Western New York.
And, I have to believe their characters were given center stage in the first book to explain how they came to be through backstory. When you come into the 5th book in the series, like me, the backstory isn’t there, but their magic is, and well, I just went with it.
So, besides trying to get a handle on all the various characters, there is the mystery. And, in this case it involves the death of person and a 1st edition copy of the book “Walden by Henry David Thoreau. Oh yes, some people do die, even in a cute, cozy mystery.
Now, Violet, our main protagonist, happens to find herself in the middle of a crime scene by being present when the body is discovered. She also tries to figure out who did it, and she is also in a scene trying to get away from a probable killer. Yes, she managed to get herself in all three of these circumstances throughout the story! It is a good thing she is marrying/married to the Police Chief!
Still, despite the predictability of Violet’s role, and the over-cuteness of the magical creatures that reside in the bookstore, it was a delightful easy read, while I was waiting for my PET CT. And, most likely will be the same for any reader who is looking to enjoy a sweet winter read that has likable characters, heart-warming moments, and a well-paced plot that will keep readers engaged....more

How does one contemplate a well-lived life?
Several weeks ago, I looked up at my well-loved books on my bookshelf as I contemplated my own life with cancer, and wondered why I was holding on to my old Dr. Seuss books that I no longer read. I also reflected on some of my other children’s books that seemed to be collecting dust. And, I looked at my husband, and I said, “I think it is time for these books to find a new home where they can be loved again. He smiled at me, and knew that I had made my decision.
We decided to give them to some dear friends of ours that have a one-year-old. We believed eventually her time would come where she would cherish the books in her life-time. And, in the meantime, her parents would love reading these cherished books to her. I felt a happy sigh that I was letting go of something I loved and giving them to people that we adored who would appreciate them as much as we did.
Why do I share this personal story? Because as I began this book, I could feel the sadness and emptiness of loss that happens when the collection of things occur after one passes, especially when no one cares about the “things that may have meant something to the person that once loved them. And, I didn’t want that to be my story.
But here it clearly was
“Mr. McGlew’s life arrives in a black bin bag packed by a stranger. “Do you happen to know the first name of Mr. McGlew? I ask, taking out a donation form. “…I think it was bud.
We soon learn that it is Eddie who is observing and asking this question. He is our protagonist who volunteers at the charity shop where the donations of Mr. McGlew’s things are being dropped off.
Eddie is 90 years old. Eddie is compassionate, observant, caring and curious. And, as readers we feel his awareness of the aloneness of those who are left with no one who cared for them upon their passing. Eddie is acutely sad for those individuals even if he never met them. And, he watches as Mr. McGlew’s things are divvied out into various piles for dissemination to be sold, recycled, or thrown out. But we also see that there is an Eddie pile. That will soon become part of an Eddie shelf.
An Eddie shelf is special. On this shelf, Eddie considers the “better evidence of a love that never wavered. As an example, it could be letters, or a list, or pressed wedding flowers, or a box of photographs, or a wedding certificate, among many things. It will always be something that is a memory that conveys love. Because Eddie Winston is looking for love. (Hence: the title of the book!)
And, the more I read, the more in love I became with Eddie. Each time a character enters the charity shop readers can feel the emotions that Eddie feels. And, wonder what drove the donations that the shop is receiving. Because Eddie senses these things acutely. And, as readers, we can’t help but be right there with him.
Like when the girl with the pink hair with the red eyes named Bella, dropped off a box of donations. Eddie knew something was terribly wrong about this particular box of things. And, as he sorted through the box it was only right for him to come to this conclusion
“I will keep them safe, until she’s ready to come back.
I’m only on page 17, readers! Pass the Kleenex please!
By page 20, Eddie knew he had a mission. Part of his collection includes a series of love letters and poems written by Mr. McGlew. And, in this particular case, these letters of love to someone named Elsie were never sent, but they were addressed to her. So, Eddie decides to contact Elsie, in hopes that she will respond. Will she respond? Why did Mr. McGlew never send the letters in the first place? What door is Eddie opening here?
With Eddie’s many good deeds and “love collections, mysteries abound. Leaving readers anxious to learn more.
But wait. We turn more pages and readers are now in 1954 meeting Bridie Brennan. Will we also learn Eddie’s backstory, too? And as we do, will we ever understand what happened?
As readers weave back and forth in time, more is revealed.
And, each time readers are thrust back into the present we can’t help but wonder if, even at 90 years young, is it possible for Eddie to find a long-lasting love for the rest of his life, too?
This book truly is a love story like no other. It is sensitively felt, poignant, thoughtful, delightful, heart-full, joyous, heart-breaking, heart-warming, and elegantly written with memorable, multi-layered characters. Readers will be taken on a journey. A journey filled with love. Buckle up, readers. And, bring your Kleenex.
Could this possibly be my favorite book of 2025 already?...more

This exquisitely illustrated and written book by the author is filled with positivity. It also proves to be a wonderful teacher to children about kindness and bringing goodness in to the world by the actions we take and the words we use.
Readers will have the opportunity to follow this fairy tale through the adventures of Mur, a kitty-knight who dreams of “protecting others, making the world better, and being a symbol of kindness and bravery.
And, not only will the adventure be fun, it will also provide good learning lessons for kids, along the way. The illustrations by the author are stunning, and certainly showcase his amazing artistry, which will no doubt captivate the adults who read along with the kids.
I want to thank the author for this complimentary book for our Little Free Library Shed. I am providing an honest review.

Ashley Branson opens a yoga studio called A Purrfect Pose that helps people find inner peace, because it also provides cats for adoption. But unfortunately, one of her clients is found dead, and her brother is accused of the murder. What will happen to her business now? And, does this mean she becomes a bit of an investigator, too? In some ways this drags the story down a bit, as does her dysfunctional family.
There are so many characters to keep track of in this story that it becomes difficult at times to know who is who. Yet, the premise of a yoga studio with kitties for adoption seemed sweet. Still, it will be hard to imagine what other trouble could occur in future stories for this series. If it involves her family members, that may not be worth following.
3 stars with .5 upward for the kitties for adoption concept!...more

I loved their independence, and they fit my lifestyle as I was learning my own way in the world.
This book is a beautiful introduction to cats in a gloriously illustrated way. For anyone who is looking to learn about cats, every corner of the book offers an opportunity to teach. With cute pictorials, information paragraphs that tell anyone everything you would ever want to know about kitten “caboodle this truly is the book readers will want to add to their personal library.
There is also a page on the zodiac of cats with suggested “cat names. Interestingly enough, the picture showcased for my birth month of the zodiac, Sagittarius, featured a black and white cat, which was my first cat when I moved out on my own, Patches. How did this book know?
The book also shares feline folklore, fun stories on catnaps, ways to please a cat, when a kitty goes on the prowl, kitty moods, famous cats that have been memorialized in books and music; and, so much more.
For the love of cats, this will be a book that all cat lovers will want in their book collection! Especially since it has cut-out pages that open within. Like peek-a-boo moments with information behind the cut-outs. Children will especially love learning about cats in this way!

Isn’t Tempe Brennan, our favorite forensic anthropologist a fighter too? For whatever reason, I just feel at home in a Bones book. The characters feel like family, including her cat, Birdie.
Of course, going backwards, when I am already reading her most recent novels, reminded me that I had already read this one, but it was nice to re-visit it. It also reminded me how devoted she is to her cases. The importance she places on getting all the facts, her bossiness, her relentless pursuit for the truth, and her willingness to dive deep until she knows what really happened despite whether the victim was a “good person or not. Because sometimes cops were just opinionated about the victims. And, she cared to know what really happened before putting the case to rest.
There is always good dialogue throughout, interesting banter, and of course, the never-ending tension with her soon to be ex-husband, Pete and what may come with her on-again-off-again partnership with Ryan. And, in this one, there will be some sadness that Ryan endures in this story, that will affect him deeply.
With this case, the more Tempe digs, the more she discovers, with the right amount of page-turning tension, which gives readers a very satisfying read.
As in all series, it is best to start from the beginning to get the full satisfaction of the characters back stories.
And, of course, as a treat, the author provides a “from the forensic files of Dr. Kathy Reichs at the back of the book that should not be read until the end....more
