I am sucker for this kind of premise but I still haven't found a book that would execute it perfectly (at least my satisfaction). What this book did well was that the heroine wasn't some wilting tragic figure just waiting for her husband to return. Nope, she was beautiful, vivacious, taking lovers, and successful in business. But what I didn't like was that it was still her who in the end had to work harder for the couple to reunite. If it hadn't been for her, they would have been together and I think that she never got the appreciation for that.
As to the hero - I kept hoping that he would exert some meaningful effort to get her back. Okay, she fucked up at the begging. But she begged for his forgiveness several times over several months, and in fact her deception wouldn't have even mattered. The hero should have been appreciative that she was willing to go to such lengths to get him. And if he hadn't been, he shouldn't have married her. Yet, he married her, and then left her for T E N fking years never fighting for her. Not once making an effort to get her back, not even fully realizing that even though she made a mistake, his was not only MUCH bigger but also never-ending. I kept reading and hoping that at the end, he would grovel, he would do some grand gesture but nope.
