it’s gonna be a dnf bc i’m bored as shit and struggling to find anything i like about this. i’m 100% counting it towards my reading goal since i got halfway through and spent way too much of my time on it. decided that i’ll probably only read the darker/fantasy romances from this author bc both of the romcoms i’ve tried just weren’t my cup of tea...more

i think karina halle found her niche in horror/thriller/suspense mixed with romance because i liked this a whole lot and i LOVED grave matter. if she writes any more books in the future w a mix of those genres just know i’ll be first in line to read it! now i’m dying to go through her massive backlog because i just seem to fly through her books and have the greatest time while reading.
this was so spooky and eerie and actually managed to successfully freak me out a little bit. she’s 2/2 on that! i liked the romance but the plot is what really drew me in and kept me flying through the pages. i’ve always loved horror/true crime stuff so mashing that with romance and this feels like it was written specifically for me...more

why choose is one of my favorite subgenres but it’s so hard for me to find one i actually like. i think i prefer it in a fantasy setting and will keep that in mind going forward ...more
yeah so this is my second book from this author, and it’s another banger. i don’t understand the low reviews for it! beautiful prose, haunting atmosphyeah so this is my second book from this author, and it’s another banger. i don’t understand the low reviews for it! beautiful prose, haunting atmosphere, dark academia gothic horror romance ???! so basically pretty much everything i want from a book.
this was giving “once upon a dream lana del rey vibes just like your blood, my bones. i think this author is becoming a favorite of mine. gothic romance with a tinge of horror is such a good combo and so hard for me to find. i read this in preparation of i am made of death and am now even more excited for it!!
this was so nostalgic and so magical. it was so fun (??) to go back to the world of pixie hollow. love a good, painful star-crossed lovers trope but athis was so nostalgic and so magical. it was so fun (??) to go back to the world of pixie hollow. love a good, painful star-crossed lovers trope but also that ending was rude and i’m sad about it. this felt a bit slow at times and i feel like there should’ve been more of an emphasis on the romance, but if you grew up watching the movies i think you’d enjoy this. i don’t think it’ll be for everyone as it read on the younger side of YA, but i personally liked it....more

this honestly blew me away. i didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as i did. this is a phenomenal debut4.5 stars
if a book has dragons in it? i’m sold!✔️
this honestly blew me away. i didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as i did. this is a phenomenal debut novel and i will definitely keep an eye out for any future releases from this author.
this book took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. i was fully sobbing at one point. there was so much going on between political intrigue, corrupt government, dragons (obviously), a little bit of dark academia, a beautiful subplot romance, and a found family. there’s so much about it to enjoy. i also thought all of the discussion on langue was really interesting to read about.
the main female character really tested my patience though. she really started out super unlikable to me. i didn’t know if i’d ever be able to root for her, but she went on an amazing journey of growth and self discovery and i love a complex character.
i’m not sure if there will be a second book, but there’s definitely potential for one with the way things wrapped up and i am BEGGING for at least a sequel...more
did i enjoy this? absolutely, yes. did i enjoy it as much as vicious? sadly, no. i think vicious could be read as a standalone, but i’m so grateful wedid i enjoy this? absolutely, yes. did i enjoy it as much as vicious? sadly, no. i think vicious could be read as a standalone, but i’m so grateful we got vengeful and will read any future books in this series the day they’re published. it took a while for me to get into it compared to vicious, but the patience was worth it. this could almost be 5 stars just for part 4 alone.
one of my biggest issues was that the time jumps felt a bit all over the place compared to book one which made it more difficult to follow at times. i also felt like there were too many minor characters to keep up with. it felt like there was a lot of set up being done for a huge chunk of the story and i just wanted to get into it already. it did pay off in the end, but i just had to stick it out.
also, i’m not knocking points for this because it’s 1000% a personal issue, but i wanted more victor. too much time was spent on randos! he’s still my fav so it was disappointing that we didn’t get more of his pov. i feel like he took the backseat in this one a little bit to shine the light on other characters. always still an icon no matter what though. easily one of my all time favorite characters.
i never hated eli in vicious, just a lot of the choices he made and i disagreed with his beliefs. in vengeful, we got more of his backstory and i caught myself slipping and feeling bad for him. that’s what i love about these books though! pretty much every single main character in this is a villain in their own way and yet they feel so human and you find yourself sympathizing with and even rooting for them.
the new major characters (mostly june and marcella) that were introduced made such a good edition and were so interesting! (my complaint about too many characters had nothing to do with them.) i love strong (and somewhat evil) women. lots of gaslight, gatekeep, girlboss energy going on here. massive fan.
i still think eli and victor should kiss and make up and am begging for it to happen in book 3. idc what it takes to make it happen. please victoria. i’ll take whatever scraps you’ll give....more

no rating because a book like this feels very subjective based on whether you find this guide helpful or not. personally, as a complete beginner to tarot i found this helpful and easy to follow along with. it’s very informative while not being too long. i think anyone looking to learn tarot that has little to no prior knowledge would benefit from reading this.
i will definitely predominately be sticking to my fiction reads but it’s interesting to shake things up every now and then. (plus i made it a goal to read at least a couple nonfiction books this year, so here’s to achieving that!) ...more
