this was giving “once upon a dream lana del rey vibes just like your blood, my bones. i think this author is becoming a favorite of mine. gothic romance with a tinge of horror is such a good combo and so hard for me to find. i read this in preparation of i am made of death and am now even more excited for it!!

ROWIN AND GENEVIEVE!! they really make my bi panic flare up. i want them BOTH!
idk if it’s the unpopular opinion or not, but i liked this even more than phantasma. while i really like phantasma, i loved enchantra and absolutely devoured it. ate it tf up and left no crumbs.
my only slight grievance is that i loved the spooky gothic horror vibes of phantasma, and while they were still somewhat present in enchantra it was a bit toned down. other than that: perfection! the world kaylie smith has created is so much fun and i’m so glad there’s going to be another book (hopefully books, plural) to expand upon it even more. the game of enchantra was so unique and has me itching to see what’s she’ll come up with next.
i just really preferred genevieve as an fmc over ophelia which was a major contribution to my enjoyment of this as well. she was an absolute delight and so hilarious. probably one of my favorite fmcs i’ve read about in a while tbh! now when it comes to rowin, it’s hard to choose between him and blackwell bc they’re both amazing. so, i simply won’t. this man was so fine and had me eating out of the palm of his hand. plus, an mmc with facial piercings?? why do i feel like that’s almost unheard of? give me more.
on top of having a great fmc and mmc, the supporting cast was also so much fun! i think that’s something phantasma was lacking. the silvers were such an interesting bunch and i really hope the rest of the series continues to give us more of them! (especially sevin...more
it felt reminiscent of caraval without being a straight up rip-off of it, so of course i was going to love it. it’s like if caraval was less of a whimit felt reminiscent of caraval without being a straight up rip-off of it, so of course i was going to love it. it’s like if caraval was less of a whimsical mind-fuck and was more spooky, dark, and gothic. and it was definitely more adult whereas caraval is YA.
it started off a bit slow for me, but once the trials started i was sucked in. that was probably my favorite part about it, and i wish it focused just a tiny bit more on the trials as i was so entertained by what we did get. the haunts and overall spookiness of the house was so fun, and makes it such a perfect fall/halloween read.
i did like ophelia for the most part. the OCD representation in her character was so good. i’ve never seen such a good example of how debilitating it can be in anything i’ve read so far, but i felt so seen. she also goes through quite a bit of growth, and i loved seeing her come into herself! i just didn’t love how she treated luci, but i understand she grew up sheltered.
blackwell. oh man. don’t even get me started. this man’s mouth was LETHAL. i ate up every single word he spoke. the praise he constantly gave her yeah, it had me weak. when he’s jealous and possessive...more

(NOT that eryx is stale. i’m actually obsessed with him)
she also knows how to write REAL enemies to lovers where they’re not immediately lusting after each other. the hatred between them was so palpable. their bickering was so good i was actually laughing out loud. the tension between these two sometimes i was a little shocked this was YA. i’m utterly obsessed with both of them. but ERYX?!??! i wasn’t too sure about him at first but man. by the end of this i was putty in that man’s hands. he’s kind of feral and i love it. this was by far my favorite romantic pairing out of all of this authors that i’ve read.
i wasn’t expecting a monster romance, but i’m not mad that it kind of ended up being one?? it actually enhanced the experience. i read this so fast because i simply couldn’t put it down and had the best time while reading. i’m a vibe reader to my core, and my ratings on the books i read reflects that. this is one of those 5 star ratings based entirely on how much i enjoyed this and i don’t care. it may not be a 5 star to everyone, but it sure is to me!

like nocticadia, this felt different from the fantasy i usually read and it’s so refreshing to switch it up. i was confused in the beginning, but when things started to click i became completely enthralled in the story and didn’t want to stop reading. realizing i just need to start picking up more dark, gothic fantasies.
my only issue with this as that the pacing felt off at times. sometimes it felt dragged out, and then the end felt like so much happened in less than 100 pages....more

the beginning was an absolute drag to get through. it was so boring and drawn out while it felt like nothing was even happening. i don’t understand why there had to be multiple detailed descriptions of food. it felt pointless to the plot and began to irk me.
emilia got on my damn nerves, i can’t lie. she started to grow on me a tiny bit but she’s probably my least favorite fantasy fmc i’ve ever read about. the story started to pick up halfway through and continued to get better the further into it i got, but i still felt left wanting a bit more.
