I was intrigued by the description and didn't realize it was part of a series when I first requested it. This book is #18 in a series that features Miami criminal defense attorney Jack Swyteck.
Jack Swyteck has been hired to defend a singer named Imani Nichols. Imani is a hugely popular award winning popstar. Unfortunately, when she was a teenager she signed a contract that made other people (namely her ex-husband) rich. Now she encourages people to “go pirate and illegally download her music. This unfortunately lands Imani in court. After cheating allegations and implications and an unsolved murder from over a decade ago are added in, we soon see why Imani needs Jack’s help.
This was an interesting read. However, I think I may have enjoyed it more if I had read some of the previous books in the series. I’ve enjoyed many legal procedurals and usually enjoy courtroom drama but at times I found it a bit too drawn out and repetitive. All that being said, I still thought this was a decent read and I would definitely be interested in checking out more from this author.

I have enjoyed many of Rachel Hawkins’s previous novels but I’m pretty sure The Heiress is my favorite so far.
When three year old, Ruby McTavish went missing from a family picnic in 1943, the nation was gripped by her disappearance. Part of the interest was likely due to the fact that Ruby’s father was one of the wealthiest men in North Carolina. Thankfully, a year later, Ruby was found safe and sound living in Alabama with the Darnell family. This wasn’t Ruby’s only brush with notoriety. She was given the nickname, “Mrs. Kill-more as she had been married (and widowed) four times. Of course, the nickname was usually whispered behind her back. Ruby lived for many years on the family estate, Ashby House which was located high in the Blue Ridge Mountains. After she passed, her estate and her fortune was left to her adopted son, Camden McTavish. But Camden had no interest in the home or the fortune. Instead he moved to Colorado and eventually married Jules.
Married for a decade, Cam and Jules have led very private lives. They live in Colorado. He’s an English teacher and she works at a living history museum acting as a “pioneer woman playing the part of a farmer’s wife.
When Jules comes home from work one evening she is surprised to see that Cam is already home. He usually tutors Wednesday evenings. Immediately she knows something is up. Cam seems distracted. Then he tells her something that will change their lives forever.
“It’s my family. They want me to come home.
When Camden McTavish left Ashby House he swore he’d never look back. Now Cam and Jules are heading back to the Blue Ridge Mountains AND Ashby House.
Cam hasn’t told Jules much about his family. Just like his mother, Ruby, Cam also has secrets. But as it turns out, his wife may be keeping secrets too.
Will coming back to the Blue Ridge Mountains be a huge mistake for Cam and Jules?
I had both The Heiress audiobook and ebook and both were terrific!!
The majority of the story is told from Jules and Cam’s point of view. We learn more about Ruby as letters from her are interspersed throughout the book. There’s also newspaper and magazine articles which help tell the story.
I was completely engrossed in this domestic suspense novel. Rachel Hawkins has written another intelligent and clever story with interesting and complex characters. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more from this talented author.

When Emma returns home one afternoon, she is surprised to find her husband, Nathan is also home already. Then he says “We need to talk. It turns out, Nathan has just lost his job. This news is especially upsetting since they just put down $10,000 on a house that they now can’t afford. Unfortunately, that money is non-refundable. Their duplex is going up for sale and they will have to leave by the end of the month. On top of all of that, Emma is pregnant.
Nathan suggests living in the house Emma owns with her estranged sisters. Emma hasn’t spoken to her sisters since their parents died years earlier. Emma doesn’t want to go back to the house or to Arden Hills. Unfortunately with no money, no job, and a baby on the way? Emma may not have a choice. They need a place to live.
“People in Arden Hills don’t forget
Emma has told Nathan most of what happened in her past but there’s a few things she hasn’t mentioned. What will happen when Nathan hears the entire truth? Will Emma and Nathan regret their decision before they even get there?
A compelling and exciting read!!
I really liked this audiobook. The storyline was engaging and original with some good twists and turns. I did find the ending a little bit rushed but still thought this was a great read. "The Damages" deals with many important and relevant issues like the #metoo movement, Covid, and more. I found both timelines interesting and I really liked that the story took place in Canada. I didn't care for the main character, Ros at first but as she grew, I found her to be a bit more relatable.
This was an engaging and well-paced read that held my interest. I think this book would be excellent for book clubs. Although the ending was a tad rushed and left me with a couple of unanswered questions, I still thought it was an excellent novel.

I love Katrina Kittle’s books and was thrilled when this novel was released. In just a few pages I was once again engrossed in a fantastic story.
Story begins in March 2020 at the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic. It’s told from the perspective of four main characters. Those amazing characters, Vivian, Luna, Cooper, and Wren quickly stole my heart.
The story was engaging and well written. Though it dealt with difficult subject matter like the pandemic, illness, death, addiction, and poverty, it still had many lighthearted laugh out loud moments.
A story about what it means to be a family. Not just the family we are born into but the family we choose to create ourselves.
A beautifully written life-affirming read!
Katrina Kittle knows how to evoke the emotions of readers with her writing. I shed many tears while reading this book.
Once again, Katrina Kittle has written a story with a terrific cast of characters I won’t soon forget.

Margot spent her freshman year at Rutledge College playing it safe. She shared a quiet but comfortable life with her roommate, Maggie. Lucy Sharpe was a very outgoing woman who lived on the same floor as Margot and Maggie. Margot was always very aware of Lucy but didn’t think Lucy had a clue who Margot was. So Margot is beyond surprised when Lucy suddenly introduces herself and then asks if she would like to room with her in a house off campus. Suddenly Margot isn’t going home for the summer and she won’t be following through on her previous plans to room with Maggie again the following year.
Lucy reminds Margot of her best friend, Eliza. Margot and Eliza had applied to the small liberal arts school together. Eliza had convinced Margot that Rutledge was where they were meant to be and they were thrilled when they were both accepted.
“It all felt so perfect, so according to plan…
Until one night changes everything. All of a sudden Margot was at Rutledge without Eliza.
“I spent the entire year floating, totally unmoored, completely removed from not only my body but from reality, too.
Rooming with Lucy brings about many changes and it’s not long before Margot starts coming out of her shell. She’s enjoying her new friends and her sophomore year is going great.
Unfortunately, things will soon take a deadly turn...
A dramatic and suspenseful story about friendship, acceptance, loyalty, and betrayal!

I have enjoyed many of Sandie Jones previous books so I automatically requested The Trade Off when I saw it was available on NetGalley.
The story is told from two points of view. We hear from the editor of The Globe, 40 year old, Stella and newbie reporter 25 year old, Jess. One of them will do almost anything for a story while the other feels the truth matters more than anything else.
Just how far will someone go for a story?
Overall, I thought this was a decent read. It wasn't emotionally taxing as some other books I've read recently. Which in a way was kind of a nice change. It was pretty slow going at first but picked up quite a bit around the halfway mark. An interesting story.
While this wasn't my favorite from this author, I'm glad I read it and I still look forward to reading more from Sandie Jones.

After a tragedy, the Egide family is hoping a change in location will help them with a fresh start. Marie, her husband, Leo and their three children travel to New Hampshire and the family estate that was left to Marie by her late grandfather. They plan to spend the summer getting the estate read to sell.
Unfortunately, plans are drastically changed after they meet Davina, a veteran many locals call “the river witch. Davina has been living in a cabin on the property for many years. They quickly learn that Davina has no plans on moving. Needless to say, Marie is not happy about the change in plans. Davina and Marie both stand their ground. Their personalities collide and a standoff ensues.
I devoured this book!!
I was completely engrossed in this beautifully written story with its perfectly imperfect characters. The story is told from six points of view. We hear from Marie, her husband, Leo, their three children, as well as Davina the river witch. All the points of view melded together wonderfully.
Where Butterflies Wander is a compelling and moving story about grief, love, family, loss and healing. Realistic characters and a unique plot are among the many reasons I had a difficult time putting this book down.
The audio for this book was also phenomenal. Great narrators that were perfect for the characters they portrayed.

I was excited to read this novel after reading the description. A professor and his wife agree to take in their estranged seventeen-year-old nephew after the mysterious and tragic death of both of his parents.
This wasn't a long novel but at times I found it dragged on. There was a lot of inner monologue and some of the characters really annoyed me. That being said, I was still intrigued and wanted to see how things turned out. I thought the ending was good though I was left with some questions.

I’ve been reading Nora Roberts books for many years and I always enjoy them. After reading the description for Identity, I was really looking forward to reading it.
Nora Roberts books have a bit of everything and it all seems to come together perfectly. Romance, sex, family, love, loss, redemption, thrills and more!
And Identity was no exception.
When Morgan Albright was a child her father was in the army. This meant frequent moves to different countries and continents. As an adult all Morgan wanted was to put down roots. She wanted her own home and her own business. So she worked her way through college and saved every penny.
Now Morgan is twenty-five years old living her best life in her pretty little house with it’s pretty little blue door just outside of Baltimore, Maryland. Her best friend, Nina Ramos moves in to help share costs and this has also worked out extremely well.
“She’d planted those roots and felt herself blooming.
Then Morgan meets a man who will change her life forever.
I really enjoyed this book!
At 437 pages it’s not a quick read. However, I was enjoying the story and really didn’t focus on the length.
Timely and relevant, Identity was an engrossing read. I grew to care for many of the characters, especially Morgan and “her ladies. Even the animals in Nora Robert’s books are well developed. (I loved Howl the dog).
Another great novel from Nora Roberts!

First the son of a US senator dies of a drug overdose. Then a popular influencer also dies. Both of the deceased had similar symptoms before their deaths. Soon there are more people turning up to their hospital ERs.
The media is quick to jump on the story. An investigation is started by a toxicologist and two detectives working from Vancouver and L.A. They are all determined to find out who is making and selling deadly diet pills targeted to those who are looking for a quick way to lose weight.
Well written and fast paced, I had a hard time putting this novel down. There are many characters and it did take a little time to keep everyone straight. I really liked the short chapters and thought the pace was very good.
Thought provoking and thrilling with an ending I did not see coming. Fit to Die is a unique and timely novel that deals with many important issues like weight loss, body image, eating disorders, and the influence of social media.
I'm looking forward to reading Daniel Kalla's next book as well as those from his back list.

I don’t read a lot of historical fiction, but when it comes to Kristin Hannah I will read anything she writes. She is definitely one of my very favorite authors and I’m always THRILLED when a new book comes out.
When I read Kristin Hannah’s stories it’s easy to forget all the other things that usually crowd my busy mind. Her stories take me away and on top of being entertained, I learn things too.
The Women was story of resilience and sacrifice. Kristin Hannah often writes about inspiring women who have done amazing things and The Women is another example of that. The writing pulled me into the story immediately and refused to let go until I finished. 480 Pages felt like nothing.
The Women was a deeply compelling and impactful read that will likely stay with me for a very long time. This intense and emotional story was not always easy to read but I couldn’t put it down.
I had both the ebook and audiobook and both were excellent. The audiobook was narrated by Julia Whelan and was very well performed.

“Some debts went beyond money
I really enjoyed this audiobook. The narration was very well done. I’ve read and/or listened to quite a few of Michele Campbell’s books and have enjoyed them all. The Intern was an exciting read. Summer was born in the back of a van. As a young child she drifted from campsite to campsite with her mother. Summer thinks she’s around thirty-two-years old but she doesn’t know for sure. She doesn’t have a birth certificate. She doesn’t know her real last name. She doesn’t know her mother’s last name either and she has no clue about her father. She once asked her mother what her birth date was, but her mother admitted she forgot.
“as far as the world is concerned, I don’t exist
Summer hasn’t seen her mother in about fifteen years. She left when Summer was somewhere around age seventeen. Summer doesn’t know if her mother is alive or dead.
Summer had been on her own for around ten years when she first met Leo (short for Leoneli) when Leo was panhandling on the street. Leo is about six years younger than Summer.
Summer and Leo have a very tight bond. Close as sisters.
They’ve been travelling together for five years. They live in Summer’s van. They have found non traditional ways of making money to survive.
