Epic fantasy in graphic novel format. Takes place in a vaguely steampunk central Asian analog. Cats talk and fight, human/god hIncredibly interesting.
Epic fantasy in graphic novel format. Takes place in a vaguely steampunk central Asian analog. Cats talk and fight, human/god hybrids walk around looking like Egyptian gods or anime cosplayers, and factions in factions in factions fight for survival and/or power. Passes the Bechdel test with flying colors, nine out of ten characters being women, and the art is beautiful in every meaning of the word, very reminiscent of manga at times.
Like I said, very interesting. I'll definitely stay tuned.

Maybe I'll review this series someday, but for now, all I really have to say is: how you gonna retcon all those time jumps to the future, huh Marvel? Don't get me wrong. I love Jeff Lemire. But the whole suspension of disbelief for this one was a little toI think maybe this was a bit over ambitious.
Don't get me wrong. I love Jeff Lemire. But the whole suspension of disbelief for this one was a little too much. Like, somehow there's a sentient space virus that is traveling between solar systems at like, insane speeds, much faster than the speed of light. And there's some sort of time travel/dimension hopping thing happening because of a flower and also a black hole but also because there's some sort of hidden machinery under all these Incan temples? And for some reason the two main characters are in love, but they've only known each other for a couple of hours and they live(d) 2000 years apart from one another? And you're gonna make me flip the book upside down to read parts of each page?!
I can stomach the rest, but seriously, don't make me flip the book upside down. I hate when writers make me do that shit. I'm looking at you Scott Snyder.
On the positive, this is maybe Lemire's best artwork to date, but I feel like his style is maybe more suited to low concept stories (Essex County, Underwater Welder), rather than super high concept sci-fi (that this book attempts to be)....more
