She decides she needs to be a new version of herself by saying yes when people offer her drinks and ask her out. She googles everything. It’s obnoxious. It’s like a book chronicling google results. It just follows her as she lives life for a short period of time. Her brother and mother are selfish. She has some growth, I suppose, in that she finally moves out and experiences life and finds a job where she eventually speaks up for herself. The amount of language in this book was a bit much. I skipped the sex scenes, but the one at the very end (maybe 5 minutes left in the book after it ended) was hard to skip without missing the end. It was completely unnecessary. I would have skipped this book had I known. ...more

It wasn’t the worst, but it wasn’t really necessary for the storytelling. I also didn’t appreciate her sleeping with a different guys 2 days in a row. At least it wasn’t explicit. I would have respected the main character more if she hadn’t given in and said no. That’s what I was really hoping for when I was reading it.
Overall, it was an excellent story. I love how they turned tragedy into something beautiful in the end....more

I think it’s supposed to be a funny book, but I don’t find dead bodies funny. It’s basically Weekend at Bernie’s in book form only worse. Every situation in this book is absurd and over the top. Again I am left uncertain how to express my love for this series.
I just love Hawkes. Oh, but I just love Islington. And I also just love Pierce. But Again I am left uncertain how to express my love for this series.
I just love Hawkes. Oh, but I just love Islington. And I also just love Pierce. But can I just say that I love how Hawkes came through in this book with the most unexpected thing?! And I need to know what his story is. All of it. I feel like they each come through for Emma at different times, always just when needed. It’s like things were set in motion long before so that all 3 of them would come into her life to be the family she needed. Was it all plotted out? Because I got that feeling when we discovered that Islington knew her father. And then again with Hawkes. So now I’m just wondering if Pierce also knew her family somehow. I think what really hits me in this book is that Emma has people who will do whatever it takes to support her and protect her and love her, who have no ulterior motives, who are loyal and aren’t going to turn on her, and it brings me so much joy because that is not something I felt often in my life at her age. It’s sort of healing and gives me hope. ...more

I don’t know that I can gather my thoughts about this book. So many feelings. I just loved it. I love the relationships and how you see glimpses of such deep compassion. Every book gives you just a bit more about each person, but never enough. And I just love them all. Well, except maybe not Cousin Archibald. ...more
