I must guard my heart. If my defenses fall and a bond forms between us, there will be no going back. Darrvasons mate for life.
Kameer's Mate is the next instalment in the Worldship Brides series that continues to explore the ongoing alliance between humans and the Darravason alien race. As humanity relies on the advanced technology of the Darravason to preserve their ships, the aliens seek breedable human females to restore their population after a devastating war nearly annihilated their own species' females.
I had mentioned in my review of the previous book that I really enjoy that the 4 stories were taking place all on the same timeline, but we were seeing the major events happening from different perspectives. Kameer's Mate is the first to step outside of that and now represents the continuation of the timeline, up to the humans and Darrvasons landing on their new planet.
Kameer and Mandy's story is a continuation of the females that figured they were "safe" from the selection as a mate, in this case Mandy and her sister were set up in arranged marriages with elder founders (like in their 90's elders, ew) to (i) protect them from the Darrvasons and (ii) to help solidify their standing in this new planet. But a chance encounter between Mandy and Kameer derails Mandy's plans...
Touching [Mandy] feels like... coming home. That's the only way I can describe it. An immense feeling of rightness. Destiny.
In classic Sue Lyndon fashion there is a power dynamic between the two, with Kameer expecting an obedient mate and Mandy being "so fucking tired of of males telling me what to do". These are considered dark romance so definitely recommend double checking those content warnings ...more

I am currently on an IPB break because I started #16, did not recognize a single characters name, panicked (especially because I feel very well versed in the IPB lore), and realized I should probably go back and get caught up with the novellas .... and just haven't had a chance yet ... Not that I would have expected anything less from our Queen Ruby Dixon. I love the entire Aspect and Anchor series (although I have not finished Wed to the Wild God yet because I missed the slow burn of the first two novels but this might inspire me to actually go back to it), and this was no exception. As the blurb says, this is exactly what you expect it to be given the premise. Also definitely the "spicest" of the A&A series... which, again, is not shocking given the premise.
