My biggest issue was how repetitive some of it was. Kiva was always sort of thinking in circles and that annoyed me a bit at times. It was also kinda funny to guess things that she should've realized loooooong before she realized them, but it was still entertaining, and the writing kept me invested despite the lack of surprise.
Kiva was such a strong character! It can be a hit or miss with main characters, but Kiva was a good one. She had a good moral compass and such compassion for those around her. I also loved her Katniss Everdeen moment!
I loved Tipp!!! He was so adorable and helpful and UGH my heart... His dynamic with Kiva was just so wholesome and sweet! And I loved Naari and her blossoming friendship with a reluctant Kiva. Jaren too, even if I did think there was a bit of an insta-love moment, their relationship was still super cute!
That ENDING though... I guessed a lot, but I did not guess that Kiva knew what she knew. I was a little flabbergasted if we're being honest here, because she seemed to not know a lot but then she knew more than I knew she knew, ya know? "Knew" doesn't even look like a word now lol.
All this to say, I liked this book and am very excited to continue the series, especially after that ending!...more

First of all, I feel like Oathbound did a wonderful job combining Legendborn and Bloodmarked. Bloodmarked, to me, felt a little out of place on my first read. Almost all of the characters we learned to love in Legendborn had taken a huge sidestep in favor of our favorite quartet going on the run (at no fault to them, I absolutely adored that dynamic!!!) Oathbound just seemed to smooth out the edges. The characters, the places everything made sense this time around and much of what we learned in Bloodmarked came into play throughout Oathbound.
Now, I personally loved Bree's growth. I feel like her progress was a lot clearer in Oathbound than anything we've seen previously. Some people may not care much for the inner journey, but that is very much what this book was about and I was all here for it. Watching Bree grow into herself and learn her power was everything I hoped for!!! She's so resilient and strong. Truly an inspiration, and one of my favorite protagonists of probably all time!
I was also a fan of the multi POV, but I do wish we had gotten a few more chapters from certain individuals. I adore Bree and love her story so much, but it felt like the other perspectives weren't given quite as much screen (page??) time as they could've had. One of the perspectives was cut off very bluntly, and I thought we might go back to that person’s POV for a quick update, but we never did. I also would like to have seen another character's thought process after meeting up with certain people. Sorry for being so vague, I'm trying to keep this as spoiler-free as possible! Still, I think the perspectives were done fairly well, especially given how much was going on at any given time.
Going into this, I didn't have any expectations. Of course, there were certain things I was hoping would happen, but I let this take me for a ride/trusted the process and was not disappointed. I think on a reread, I might rate this four stars, but I love this series and these characters so much that it's hard to find fault. Some parts did drag a bit (cough cough (view spoiler)[auction house (hide spoiler)] cough cough), but overall I feel like I enjoyed the pacing. Despite some other reviews I've seen, I feel like this book was necessary in propelling Bree forward for the fourth and final book. Yeah, maybe that could be considered “middle book syndrome, but it didn't really feel that way to me. I enjoyed the journey, and I feel like this left us in a good spot for the finale.
Though I have to say I’m very worried for one character’s fate in particular, but I don’t think that Bree would’ve done what she did if it would put someone so important to her in harm’s way (with or without the uh certain trope coming into play). Surely there was a plan or something we as readers weren’t made aware of?? Either way, I’m holding out hope that everything will turn out well because I can’t afford to stress over this for two more years. Delulu is the solulu until proven otherwise.
Also that ending was shocking (as in the way it happened and how quickly it came about), but we all kinda saw part of that coming, did we not??? I've been theorizing this since Bloodmarked, even though I did second guess myself more than once before it was confirmed. Still, I'm both nervous and excited to see where this takes us!
I know this review was kind of a mess, but thank you for reading! After almost a month, you'd think I'd be able to condense it all into actual words, but here we are I might write a better review after rereading in the future, but I wanted to get this out there. I love reading other reviews, so maybe someone will be able to relate or find this useful Anyway, I think Tracy Deonn is a phenomenal author, and even though I don't want it to end, I can't wait to see how Bree's journey all comes together! I have a feeling we’re in for a very exciting finale!!!...more
