this book has left me a mess. I literally can't even put words to this review for how much I really came to love this book I actually really suggest going into this book blind cause that's what I do with all my book and when I started this I was so confused and questioning about putting this book down cause of the toxicity but I stayed cause of how interesting Maya was and great rep and around maybe 40-50 thought the book when Maya started realizing what was going on how much under Alana control she was and finally not listening to her and trying to find a way while fighting her heart and need shes had all her life since shes been with Alana for literally almost her entire life. but I'm just yapping at this point cause I genuinely loved this so much I just wanna rant on about the littlest details but the biggest thing about this book I loved was how realistic it was.
Probably the biggest left down but honesty was how Rowan and Maya didn't get together as a couple and Maya still having love for alana. that was something I think alot of writing today with current publishing would have made it a happy ending where Maya and Rowan got together and Maya didn't care for Alana everyone's happy!! no. it was realistic with Maya still mourning and loving her. because you can't move on so easy from that someone she had loved all her life put her through hell even through death but she never wanted to leave.
I am in shambles and media playing a BIG part in this was very intresting, because with people ramping things up and acting all sorts of ways was true it happens all the time people love dirty laundry and people blaming Maya without knowing her or anything and people trying to pick and prodd and act like they know what their doing add blame to Maya and putting her down with people saying she was aggressive ugh persecption was such a great aspect of this book and grrrr I could keep ranting but I literally don't know how to rant about this book cause when I review its just a rant I can't think in a orderly fashion and write proper I just rattle off things I love and thing thats just work for a book and UGH!!! the plot twist and ending just had me literally crying in class when I was reading it just please read this book especially if you've had a abusive relationship before this book is definitely see people relating too like I did + its just a really good book...more

Im just like amazed the ending had me just sit there baffled like WHAT there was small hinting in the book and in the last scene that hinted what she would do and GOD I am just like idk the book was really good but a few things that didn't make sense that okay whatever I assume will be sorted out in the other 2 books so whatever but the world could have been fleshed out more as more of how the time works for them. but kinda just more into my ratings I didn't like Joan all that much and how she acted half through the book she just pissed me off and things were just moving kinda wishy washy too fast or slow like we get the point you know just ugh she made me mad idk I loved reading this it was really good and attention drawing but it does have its flaw I'm kinda shell shocked from the ending writing this lol...more

I have have very strong mixed feelings I loved this good its really good for a debute novel like huhh?? its really describtive writing style but that's also where it gets a bit eh. sometimes it would go on and on about describing the scene while the characters are having a conversation and just kinda annoying like okay idc finish what you were saying. but besides that which does have its flaws and strength. another thing I was somewhat iffy on was how they only really hanged out as friends and everything was rushed and the (some spoiler ig?) and yad getting food for Jules kinda didn't make sense to me since he couldn't eat it ( but for some reason they gave Tito food at the beginning and I'm pretty sure he was able to eat it so that didn't make sense but I'm just not picking.) just there were really personal moments between them that were really nice and sweet but were kinda barren and Jules just pissed me off when he kept acting out like bro if you don't go sit outsideeee help but seriously I'm on the fence able Jules but now on to the stuff I actually really liked yad.
bro I have struggled with gender dysphoria as someones who's nonbinary and its so nice to finally have someone write it right and SOB certain lines in the book were thoughts i've had so I personally enjoyed that bit. yads whole mission to prove himself has a brujo sniffle it was really sweet and was really well repersented. and the subtle foreshadowing and plot movement was really nice cause while reading I felt like we kept hitting dead ends and weren't getting everywhere and at the ending everything makes sense somethings tie in from yad pointing it out and others you get from just thinking of what charcters say like STOP. but really I actually loved the twist ending just ugh.. this was so much fun to read and a lot of characters people can relate too and while also pointing issues going on like topics about abuse,gender dysforia, people getting deported for no good reason,racism,stray kids, and a bigt more even thought some of these are beife its nice to have a book talk about these issues but overall this book was probably 9/10 it had its flaws like any other book but this one was just a really fun and emotional read....more
