I don’t even know where to start or what all to say about this book because it was really cheesy, overly sappy at times, and honestly, just bad.
*The “romance in this took insta-love to a new extreme! Joe is a satisfied bachelor proclaiming loudly and proudly one minute that he has absolutely no desire or plans to settle down and then BOOM! He does a complete 180 the next minute when he meets shy, insecure Zoe at a family barbecue. Joe knows absolutely nothing about her or her past except that she’s obviously (view spoiler)[harboring secrets, but after taking her fishing and teaching her to skip rocks, he just knows it’s true love and time for marriage, kids, and happily ever after. (hide spoiler)]eyeroll
*I HATED the heroine! She was one of the most annoyingly insecure and continually self-critical heroines, ever!
*The suspense plot was pretty pathetic, ridiculous, and poorly developed. Zoe’s (view spoiler)[true identity reveal and kidnapping (hide spoiler)] felt like it was all just thrown in, and there weren’t any details, explanations, or resolutions given. It all just got swept up nice and clean.
*A significant part of this book seemed like it was setting up for Rusty and Sean’s story, finally, but their book isn’t the next one and will be #15 and the series finale, according to Maya Banks’s website. That’s still several books away and a long time to wait. I really hope the upcoming/remaining books are better than this one!

This was over-the-top ridiculous. I didn’t feel the romance between the H/h, and after suffering so much abhorrent abuse and violence, their (view spoiler)[HEA (hide spoiler)] seems impossible and totally unbelievable...even for Romancelandia. I’m surprised to be giving a Maya Banks book a 1-star rating, but this was just bad....more

This was repetitive, cheesy, over-the-top melodramatic, slow, and borderline ridiculous at times. I didn't really care much for the hero or heroine or their romance.
I've been underwhelmed with the last couple of books in this series and with the books in her Breathless Trilogy, Surrender Trilogy, and especially the Slow Burn series. I really hope the next Kelly/KGI book will be better....more
