Had read Antigone before but a different translation so it was enjoyable to try a different one and compare from memory. She's such an intriguing figure! Oedipus at Colonus was the weakest of the three for me but I did enjoy it - I feel like it screams Athenian propaganda though?? The journey Creon goes on in this too - unfairly accused by Oedipus in Oedipus the King to becoming positively villainous in Oedipus in Colonus, then having his own tragic downfall in Antigone... truly, everyone is having an awful time....more

Thought it would be much scarier and although the tension builds and there are some very cool and creepy magical elements, it wasn't that frightening (which is maybe good for me because I am a scardey cat!!). This definitely makes my top three SMG I think, as I found the ideas really fascinating, the characters really grew on me, and I'm just obsessed with SMG's brain and all the unique ideas she comes up with!...more

Dabbling across poetry, art, music, science, astronomy, mathematics, history - the interconnectedness of all these wonderful things and the bright shining people who advanced our understanding of them. Concerned with figurings, transformations and transcendentalism, I cried many times both in sadness and wonder at humanity and the natural world. Also did I mention it's deeply queer?? This is an absolute treasure of a book and has lit a fire inside of me!...more
