Miller writes a journal-like, eloquent, and gripping account of her experience with sexual assault. She has a way of writing with clarity and introspection without compromising her spirit. The narrative surrounding her friends and family and how the trauma impacted them was raw and relatable; I could feel the fierce love emanating from every word. I was hesitant to read this. At first, I was mad. How did you make it to the summit? Why was I left at the base of the mountain? Why did you have things I didn't have? By the end, I was pained and dismayed. For her, for us, for all of us. A must read....more

Every sentence heavy with meaning but also empty. I struggled with the narrative and content of this novel. High potential for a rather mediocre delivery. I regret to say that I expected more. But I look forward to reading more of Vuong’s poetry. I feel this is where he shines. ...more
