I just couldn’t do it anymore. The choppy writing style kept bugging me and I wasn’t invested in the story AT ALL. I couldn’t keep up with character names, or honestly what was happening at all. I think this book taught me I’ve definitely outgrown the dystopian genre. Also, this totally read like a YA novel even though it was shelved under adult. So tbh, I feel kinda duped. Waste of my time....more
this book was annoying and just full of a bunch of shit. I like stories that actually FLOW with ideas, not just random popping crazy 2.5/5 meh meh meh

Alice is just very annoying, I cannot stand her. Some things I did enjoy, mainly I thought the nonsense was stupid and funny at the same time....more
**EDIT 2017** I've become a tougher reviewer and I am changing this to 1/5 stars. Though it deserves maybe 0.5. But GR doesn't do that.
Woah. I was so e**EDIT 2017** I've become a tougher reviewer and I am changing this to 1/5 stars. Though it deserves maybe 0.5. But GR doesn't do that.
Woah. I was so excited for this book because so many reviews were saying how amazing this book was, and it sounded like a nice plot. But, it went downhill for me.
I did not like Earl at all. He was just a very rude and unlikeable character. I read books for enjoyment, not to see Earl punching Greg in the stomach for no damn reason.
And I wasn't a fan of the vulgar language..
"Are you going to eat her pussy?"
Excuse me? Is this really appropriate for a book? I think not. Unless you are into that kind of stuff..
I gave this book 2 stars because
1. The Hardcover is just really pretty and colourful, also without the dust jacket, the book itself is really pretty. 2. I started liking this book towards the end. I liked the idea of making a film for Rachel.
I think the main reason as to why I didn't like this book is because I am a true sucker for modern day romances, like All the Bright Places, or contemporaries. This book had a lot more potential for me, which it didn't live up to. I can see how others would enjoy this book, some people may be tired of all the cheesy romances these days, so they liked somethig different. But this was too different and not my taste.
Also, the humour in this book, wasn't really funny. Maybe I just didn't like the jokes, but Earl kept pissing me off, and just, UGH.
The happiest part for me was to finish this book....more

Nice ending, amazing clear plot**spoiler alert** To start off, when I read Catching Fire, I was IN LOVE. It was one of the BEST books I've ever read. Nice ending, amazing clear plot with very intriguing action going on. So of course, after reading Catching Fire, I had BIG expectations for mockingjay. Going into this final book of the hunger games trilogy, my mind was sent that this book wasn't going to be as good as the sequel to the hunger games (catching fire) Same case in which I read the Divergent trilogy, I felt Insurgent was the best(yeah kill the main character to end a trilogy, *slow claps*) so yeah I was SPOT ON with my prediction, but I have to admit, I was stunned by how much I disliked this book.
THE FEW THINGS I LIKED ABOUT THIS BOOK - the beginning/middle part of this book was interesting, with the entire district 13 rebellion thing going on. - I liked how Suzanne included Gale A LOT MORE in mockingjay. I was glad that I was able to see the relationship between him and Katniss because in the hunger games , we only saw Gale as Katniss' close friend, but in mockingjay, that relationship was shown to us more. - I really liked the idea of Katniss being the "mockingjay" for the rebellion, because I felt like she represented this the best. Even though Peeta is better with words, Katniss' actions are much stronger. That's about it with the good things about Mockingjay, which you can say my list is limited - I enjoyed the epilogue because it shows that Peeta and Katniss in a way, are getting better and now have kids.
THE THINGS THAT MADE THIS REVIEW ONLY 3/5 STARS(which honestly I'm still debating about) - Peeta being "hijacked" by the Capitol, not only made me really sad, but in the end it was totally not worth it. Yes, I understand that something bad had to happen to Peeta and it could not be death because than Katniss would have nothing else to live for (except her mom and Prim, which we find out Prim dies, leading to my next point) However, I believe the ending didn't suffice what I was hoping for. The ending of the mockingjay basically says that Peeta hasn't fully recovered, but he somehow bonds with Katniss again. The bond they had in the arena, the ever lasting relationship they have built over the 2 books, is completely gone.
*waves goodbye to their relationship*
- Prim's death. God I can go on FOREVER about how her death was completely irrelevant, stupid, and heart breaking. First of all, I was so so SO confused as to how and when exactly she died. Maybe it's my lack of reading skills (highly doubtful) or this part of the book was very poorly written. On page (352), Katniss says... " My name is Katniss Everdeen. I am seventeen years old. My home is District 12. There is no district 12. I am the Mockingjay. I brought down the Capitol. President Snow hates me. He killed my sister. Now I will kill him. And then the Hunger Games will be over..." This is the moment where I found out Prim died.
(page 349 of The Mockingjay "But the ones I hated are winning, and if she clings to me, she'll be lost as well. "Prim, let go!" And finally she does."
Excuse me, but how in the hell did Prim get there? Why is she there at the moment of explosion? I was completely baffled by this, and I had to go back to the beginning of the chapter to find out what happened. And I STILL DIDN'T GET IT. The first 2-3 pages of chapter 25 is so confusing. Katniss is talking in metaphor how she is the mockingjay, wings failing, unable to reach those she loves, and quote *insert hate quote here* My overall understanding, Prim somehow was caught in the explosion that occurred apparently by Gale and Beetee? (Now that I think about it, was Prim in that cage full of children? Maybe, I have I read it again to clarify.) Her death was the stupidest part of this book (including the part where Katniss doesn't kill Snow, but I'll get to that soon enough..) Prim's death was completely IRRELEVANT. This just made the ending 1000x worst, making it so heartbreaking. In the first book, Katniss volunteers herself, her life, just for Prim. She goes through so much crap to stay alive, and as we know, it's all for Prim,
(page 21 of The Hunger Games)
" There must have been some mistake. This can't be happening. Prim was one slip of paper in thousands! Her chances of being chosen so remote that I'd not even bothered to worry about her. Hadn't I done everything? Taken the tessarae, refused to let her do the same? One slip. One slip in thousands. The odds had been entirely in her favor. But it hadn't mattered."
and then in catching fire, Katniss is still fighting in a way, for herself, Peeta, and Prim. I just don't understand why Suzanne did this. Why couldn't she have made this a happy ending? It's the end of a trilogy, so it shouldn't end on anything else than a happy note. But no, in a slight way, she pulled a Veronica. (For those who read Allegiant understands me)
- Katniss not being able to assassinate Snow herself. Throughout this trilogy, we have seen encounters between President Snow and Katniss, basically loathing each other. So of course, when we see that President Snow has been kidnapped,
(page 351 of The Mockingjay " On President Snow: He's being held prisoner, awaiting trial and most certain execution."
we anticipate that Katniss will have the chance to finally kill him, and when she does, she apparently listens to the words of President Snow....
(page 357 of The Mockingjay " 'My failure,' says Snow, 'was being able so slow to grasp Coin's plan. To let the Capitol and districts destroy one another, and then step in to take power with Thirteen barely scratched. Make no mistake, she was intending to take my place right from the beginning. I shouldn't be surprised. After all, it was Thirteen that started the rebellion that led to the Dark Days and then abandoned the rest of the districts when the tide turned against it. But I wasn't watching Coin. I was watching you, Mockingjay. And you were watching me. I'm afraid we have both been played for fools."
and she goes ahead and kill the new Panem president, Alma Coin. Whom I've never liked anyway, don't get me wrong, I'm glad she died. But I still wish Snow would be killed by Katniss. It would give her that ultimate satisfaction that she won. However, we find out he either choked to death from laughter or some other crap. I was honestly waiting for the moment of President Snow to be killed by Katniss, and this was a HUGE letdown for me.
Overall, this book had great potential but it mainly failed. My expectations for this book was really high and after reading the whole trilogy, I can say without regret, that the hunger games trilogy, started strong, ended weak.
