I love Mr. Harper’s writing style, it is engaging, action-filled, yet light and fun to read - even when dealing with death - and monsters - and evil. I was hesitant only because of the whole cat-lady shapeshifter scenario, it just didn’t sound that exciting. BUT the story is filled with enough twists and really creative turns that I found myself thoroughly enjoying it!

It is in a bit different way than with previous books in this series, however. This story deals mostly within deepening understanding and the reasons and motives behind much of the actions to this point. The storyline truly helps the reader really understand the characters better and for that reason I absolutely loved it.
There is a bit of action near the end but even then, it is there only to enhance the underlying motivations the are prompting the conflicts in the storyline and will absolutely affect the books to come. Bring it on!!...more

Yikes! I forgot to write a review for this finale! So, now I’ll have to keep things a bit more general:
First and foremost, I highly recommend the series. It is fantastic! Lots of action, unique and intriguing world, strong romance yum! Each book focuses on a different couple but they all tie in and intertwine so you don’t miss or lose track of those who you have read about before.
That being said, this specific couple is my least favorite. And, that’s a bit of a disappointment because I was SO looking forward to Calista’s book. I loved her in previous books! Sadly, my opinion of her kinda plummeted in this installment. She went from a pragmatic, meet things head on with a sarcastic comment kind of girl to one that runs away and tries to ignore everything chick. Didn’t make sense and it didn’t sit well with me.
BUT every thing else was awesome! A fabulous end to a fabulous series!...more

HATED Saga through 60% of this book. Until the last part of the story, there wasn’t a single nice word that came out of her mouth! She was caustic, rude, often just plain cruel. She never apologizes when her words cut deeply and is so unlikable that I had trouble even wanting to continue. The reasons for her behavior come out as the book unfolds, but Ari’s background is also unfolding and it is just as horrific as hers and he hasn’t turned into the nasty, mean person she has become. She ruined much of the read for me.
BUT by the end she has turned around enough that I guess I can stomach continuing. Actually, I can’t not. This story fits into the overall arc of the series so intricately that I must! Because, the series is truly one of the most addictive and engrossing i have read in a looong time....more

This one could just as easily be rounded up to four stars were it not for the weird lull in the middle of the book where it’s pretty much one long sex scene after the next. The storyline just kinda stops for a bit (in the middle of all suspense) while the author makes sure all the smut is in place. Then back to the story. It was weird, and very unlike other books I’ve read from this author. Usually she weaves her spice in more here and there while keeping the action and suspense front and center. This is quite literally a sex dump. *shrugs*
In other news, the few world building problems from the first book are resolved, things are much more clear, so the rest of the story is classic Andrews, page-turning, swash-buckling excitement and fun! Absolutely LOVED how the characters from her previous series are tied in. And love, LOVE how well this author can craft an ending that is both satisfying and intriguing enough to need the next book....more

I LOVE the overall story of this series! The writing is tight and hard to put down and the characters are so real they almost jump off the page. The only exception, and the downside, in this story is Valen (MMC)! He literally spent 80% of the book being an absolute twattle (that’s a twat who acts like a little, whiney baby. Yeah but it fits.). The old “We can’t be together, I must push you away to protect you. trope is alive and well in this one, folks!
But aside from that one huge-for-me problem, the book is AWESOME! So if one can keep the red-hot annoyance dialed down (I couldn’t) it is well worth the read....more
I am comparing this book to other books from LJ Andrews alone, rather than all other fantasy romance book in the world. I say that because all 3.5/5.0
I am comparing this book to other books from LJ Andrews alone, rather than all other fantasy romance book in the world. I say that because all her stories are gripping and hard to put down. This one is no less. It just isn’t as cohesive as other books she has written and the world building isn’t as strong. I couldn’t get as good a grip on the motivations and relationships enough to really buy into the narrative, and that is unusual for me with this author.
Still, the plotline is purely Andrews genius and I have already jumped into the second book!
Oh! FYI, this series is a spin-off series. The main characters are the children of those found in the Broken Kingdom series. It can absolutely be read without having read that series but for those of us who have, it is especially awesome! Plus, I personally think that series is the best of the two so far....more

SO this, the finale of Valen and Elise’s story was AMAZING! Everything one looks for in a fabulous story. It was action filled, romance rich, edge-of-your-seat, heart thumping fun! All wrapped up with a satisfying ending. *sigh*
Yes, I know there were a few (well, just two) glitches along the way. Elise for a minute in book one and Valen for an eternity in book two. BUT, everything wound together to culminate in a truly rich and fabulous conclusion that makes the entire trilogy SO worth it! I would absolutely recommend giving these books a try.
P.S. The series, itself, continues for many more books, but they focus on other characters, so the main characters of this specific story arc is finished here. Am I continuing on? Oh hecka yeah!!...more

The first half was a bit slow going for me, as it set all the pieces precisely in place. But, I have read a bazillion fantasy books, so it’s pretty easy to pick up and know where things are going without the explanations. Anyone who isn’t already saturated wouldn’t have that problem.
Now, the second half. THAT is a page-turner for anyone! There is a point where I want to knock Elise upside the head for being an absolute twat. But, her idiocy only took a minute and it furthered the storyline extremely well, so I’ll forgive her one lapse in intelligence.
The ending? Well might just be the best part of the entire book! The author could give an absolute master class in how to end a book without a cliff-hanger yet still make a reader race to get the second installment! It’s exciting with all kinds of surprises and turns, yet it ends in a place that doesn’t just kick one right off a ledge. Instead, it twists the narrative with a wink, then swaggers off the last page. Genius!...more

This is the PERFECT “take me out of this world and let me live a fantasy I can only dream of kind of book. Because it is so NOT rooted in anything actually realistic, but it is everything one can fantasize about.
Quick explanation: Truvy is a poor, small town Southern girl living in the big city and trying to work her way through law school by waitressing at a dive diner. An incredibly sexy, handsome, dark, brooding man comes in throughout an entire year, drinks coffee and just watches her. Ultimately (after a few conversations) he saves her life, kidnaps her and then proves to be everything she has dreamed about in a man. The one catch? He has secrets, and they involve the mob. Ultimately, though, this vastly underestimated, perfect man, shows his true blue colors that lead to a pitch perfect ending.
See? Sounds silly but it really is SO MUCH FUN to read! Yes, we know the things happening would never happen in real life, but who cares? It is an indulgence, darn it! And we all deserve that now and then. ...more

SOPE The ending book makes this series well worth the time! All the little quibbles I had through one book or another are smoothed out in this finale and we are given a warstorm (heh, heh) of a ride that ends in the perfect ending. And by that I don’t mean everything in their world is perfect, but every thread, every question every hesitation has been addressed and tied off neatly to allow the reader to finish this nail-biting series with a HUGE happy smile!
Yes, there are still small areas that I personally wasn’t just lapping up - I have never, ever liked the whole “I’m going to die trope and never will. But, even that had a resolution that everyone hopes for in a twist that no one can guess. I did guess who the ultimate villain and the ultimate saviors were a book or two ago, but being proved right was extra satisfying because the ways, means and hows were so creatively uncovered.
This means that, even with the misstep of book two, this series is one I would highly recommend for anyone that loves all kinds of action and adventure mixed with a good dose of steam. ...more
