I know nothing about AI or computers so I was lost half the time. Also the oceanography information was way over my head. I still gave the story five stars, my ignorance is no excuse for downgrading a book.
It took me forever to read, but I enjoyed the parts i understood. I spent a lot of time on Google and YouTube. It brought the area alive and made me feel apart of the story. I have spent a lot of time studying those tiny South Pacific countries so it was fun to see them mentioned.

It would have been a better story presented chronologically. The jumping back and forth gave away the whole plot. I only stuck it out until the end because I wanted to see how the switcheroo turned out!

It certainly gives you something to think about - does anyone want their doomsday predicted? Not me. Negative thoughts produce negative results. Just take life one day at a time, especially at my age!!
What a great bunch of people - each unique in their own special way. To believe or not believe the prophecy, that would鈥檝e been a hard decision. I think Cherry鈥檚 prediction would have colored my thinking and I too would have been ultra careful to avoid illness or accidents. Watch out, she on your next flight!!

A family saga like I have never read before. It鈥檚 as if I turning over a rotting log and found it crawling with maggots. A sordid story of a family of dark, disreputable misfits.
The writing is superb, the authors vivid descriptions define every character and make them alive, so real you can smell their body odor and bad breath. This is not a book for the faint hearted, sex, violence, mental health, animal cruelty and some pretty raw scenes, especially the chapters with Alec.I had to sluff over those parts.
I liked how Speck and Gacy played their parts, made it feel like a true story.
Myra鈥檚 final chapter hit me way too close to home! She was definitely the heroine of the story, such a well developed profile.
I鈥檓 not sure why I was so enamored with this look at the seamy side of life, but I sure was.

Written in 1973, this was Mr Mankell鈥檚 debut novel, although it was not translated to English until 2020. It is as relevant today as it was then. The pyramid analogy is a perfect example of our current government. The bag of gold sits at the top closely followed by the wealthy. Down at the bottom is the common man supporting the weight of the world.
The format is very unusual, I don鈥檛 think this book will appeal to Kurt Wallander fans, but I loved its eye opening theme. I feel that the author is very closely aligned with Oskar - his alter ego?
