The Truth about forever is about Macy, a teenage girl who has the "perfect" image. She is smart, pretty, nice, and has the "perfect" boyfriend. But unThe Truth about forever is about Macy, a teenage girl who has the "perfect" image. She is smart, pretty, nice, and has the "perfect" boyfriend. But underneath that, she is still in great pain over her father`s death. The book starts out as Macy helps her boyfriend, Jason, pack to go to a Brian camp for the summer. He merely kisses her on her forehead, and reminds her of her duty in filling in for him at the libary desk when he departs. But later Jason puts their realationship on hold after she merely tells him she love him in an email. Macy then has to look forward to working at the boring libary job and studying her SAT book at night. But she also winds up working in a catering business, for a pregnant woman named Delia. There she meets Bert, a strong believer in Armageddon and Monica, aka Monotone, who never actually talks. She also meets Kristy, Monica`s sister. Kristy is pretty, but she has deep scars running down her face that she got when she was in a car crash when she was 12. Most importanly, she meets Wes, Bert`s brother and in Kristy`s eye, "An amazing guy". He is an artist, once in a reform school, who thinks flaws make women beautiful.
During the summer, Macy and Wes bond. Since he is also on a break with his girlfriend, they`re "just friends". Soon, they start playing a game called "Truth". They have to ask each other questions and that person has to say the whole truth. They get to know each other, and share each other secrets they normally would share with other people. By then end of the summer, they fall in love.
Summing it all up, Macy learns a lot that summer. She learns that nobody is perfect and that everybody has flaws, making Macy realize that she could never be perfect. But deciding that it`s not so great being perfect either. What I love about this book is the message from the book: The truth about forever is that it is happening. Right now. It means life is happening right now. Before that summer, Macy went to school, came home, and studied. That`s it. She did`t live life, actually. People always say, "Oh, you`re young, you have your whole life to live. You have plenty time to party, you should just stay at home." What happens if you keep on saying that and your whole life goes by and you haven`t really lived it? You`re not on a train to take you to live your life, you are living it. The book`s message is that forever is happening, and you can decide how you want to live it. The Truth about forever is one of my favortie books by Sarah Dessen. :]...more
