Milkyway--a peculiar cat with a pattern of the Milky Way splashed across her back..." I mean, come on-- how does that NOT lure you in???
...Or maybe that's just the cat-lover in me speaking.
The art and storytelling is gorgeous, and I love how each story and art style is different. Not to mention that this is a published in full color which just adds to the storytelling, and just make the pages come alive.
Overall, I am giving this a four stars out of five because I found some of the stories a bit confusing. However, I don't know if the stories themselves, something that was lost in translations, or just me.
One thing to look out for is the some of the stories can get pretty dark, especially in Vol.2, which is just something for people to keep in mind. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend 'Milkyway Hitchhiking,' I think it's an amazing read. Very compelling stories and art, and a great concept. ...more

As an avid cat lover, I plowed through this book in a few days, and bugged my dad consistently until he was able to take me to the bookstore for the next volume.

I think this could be a great potential read for younger kids. Speaking from personal experience, it got me involved with a more advanced vocabulary (for my age at the time, anyway), really made me think about nature and biology, and I really had to think and visualize as I tried to figure out what certain clan terms meant. It took me a little bit to associate the "monsters" with moving vehicles.
(*Also, please note, this story is based around fighting for territory so there is violence, and it can definitely get a bit graphic.)
With this book in particular, I thought the plot was well paced and organized. It was definitely a strong start to a great series!
However, Erin Hunter is not one author, but SIX. As you can imagine, it can get a little chaotic. Occasionally, as I made my way through the rest of the series, and the next few series after that, I found that cats would suddenly come back from the dead (and that's not the nine lives talking), and sometimes, their titles as apprentices, warriors, and even a leader once, were misused. So while these books will always have a dear place in my heart, due to the occasional inconsistency, the series overall would be a 3.5/4 from my end....more
