It features THE BASTARD KING is the first book of the Bastard Duology series. As a lover of Donna Grant’s dragons, I was very excited about this book. It features a unique dark fantasy world. If you’re familiar with Grant’s writing style, you may know that she is great at worldbuilding and this book is no exception.
I enjoyed the dragon mythology and the romance between Kora and Derek. Kora especially interested me because of her past. Her strong spirit was evident from the get-go and I loved how Derek was able to support her and make her shine even more.
The duology surprised me as Grant has always done long series, so if you’re new to her writing and want to try it out, I feel like it’s a good chance to do so. If you’re anything like me, you’ll get addicted to her worlds and writing style. I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series. ...more

If you’re new to Donna Grant’s books, you may be able to tell that these books are all interconnected with the other series she has written. So if you’re a loyal fan like me and keep coming back for more, you will be greatly rewarded. However, that is not to say that you can’t jump into this book first. I just feel like readers who know the other characters from other series may come to appreciate the storyline more.
That being said, I enjoyed the worldbuilding and characters. Grant’s writing feels very comfortable for me, so it’s easy to read. These books have become somewhat like a comfort food for me. You can’t help but crave it and come back for more. ...more

There is a lot of action in the latest book by Laura Childs. Rife with intrigue and suspense, I found myself captivated by this book. The mystery moves at a fast clip, keeping readers on their toes. I love the point-of-view from the killer’s perspective too in the beginning as it adds more to the urgency of the plot.
I also loved how we could see Theodosia in action. Her mind moves faster with each book, showing how experienced she’s become as an amateur sleuth. It makes her one of my favorite heroines to read.
HIGH TEA AND MISDEMEANORS receives high praise from me. I already can’t wait for the next book in the series. ...more
