first!! The grip this book had one me needs to be studied, I was FLYING through the first part of it. If my phone literally didn’t break, this would’ve been a one sitting read
In terms of action, character growth and insane twists, this book did NOT miss! Genuinely trying to catch my breath after the way it turned at the end
My only criticism and why it’s four instead of five is I do feel like some things felt rushed and I had to question if this was a standalone to have so much crammed into it? I just wanted a little more development for some of the relationships and plot points

The mystery and the banter made it for an extremely entertaining read and I was OBSESSED with Hani's and Seokga's dynamic. I really hope we get a short story of just fluff at some point because I need more!

This was SO good! I loved June's other book, The Red Palace and therefore very excited for this one! I love the way June writes, it's very easy to visualize the story in my head, almost like I'm watching a show. And of course, the ROMANCE. Oh my goodness, she always writes the best lines, I was obsessed.

June’s writing has grown and improved so much since Jade Fire Gold and I couldn’t put this book down. The comp to Shadowhunters is accurate and I love how this concept worked with Chinese gods and underworld. I want the next book NOW!

I loved XOXO and ASAP delivers that super dreamy, super fluffy romance that we got in the first book! ASAP follows side characters from XOXO and I appreciate the more in depth view into the life of K-pop idols and celebrities, and the challenges that come with it.
I really enjoyed Sori as a main character, she's strong and confident, but also compassionate and her development with both Nathan and her family was really well written! My only critique of this book is I wanted more build up and development of the romance!

I think after being with these characters for three books now,I am devastated but also I wanted more??? This could’ve been longer and more fleshed out
I think after being with these characters for three books now, I needed more closure on their endings. That being said, I liked Bastien and Celine's individual character development and the continued world building and additions to the magic system. It just didn't read like a conclusion to a series until the last 20% which felt super rushed.

Okay, let me get started with one of my favorite parts of this book: the EGYPTIAN REP!! I am an Egyptian American and while I have been fortunate to find Muslim and Arab rep in the books I read, it's been harder to find Egyptian rep. This book nailed it on the head, I was SO happy to see my culture on the page and it was done beautifully. I laughed so hard at the "birds' tongue soup" joke because I had the same exact experience growing up. I can never speak enough about how special it is to read your experiences and feel represented on the page, it's one of the best feelings.
Moving on, I did feel that overall the book needs a little more editing. Like everything just needed to be polished and pulled together. It is a debut and it reads that way. It needed to flow better. I'm hoping to see the writing improve in the next book because the potential to be a 4 or 5 star read is there.
I had heard that this book has a "colonizer romance" and honestly it's what made me delay reading it for so long. I will say it's not as bad as you might think when you hear those words but I'm still super iffy on the romance as a whole. I think nationalities aside, they would make for a great enemies to lovers, but as I'm reading, I can't forget that Arin is the Heir of the kingdom that destroyed Jasad. I'm leaving my opinion on this romance open minded because I can see the potential for a great pairing but I need massive development from Arin (and Sylvia).
Side note: I don't know why we've seen so many colonizer romances this year. Authors, y'all can write tension without this dynamic. Just make them from opposing kingdoms. Why does his kingdom have to be colonizing hers?
Speaking of Sylvia, I'm back and forth on her character. Sometimes I love her, but most of the time she frustrated me. She has a lot of feelings towards Jasad and I don't completely agree with them, neither do I fully understand her motivations. I understand wanting to distance yourself from the past but I wanted more. All that said, with the way the book ended, I could see Sylvia fully embracing herself and her identity in the next book and I hope it goes that way!
Overall, this book was good! I had a decent time and I DO recommend it to everyone looking for an adult fantasy and Egyptian rep!
TW: colonization, grief, murder, violence, mentions of torture, discrimination

I loved Threads That Bind and was lucky enough to get access to this sequel so soon after reading it. This was so intense, heart pounding, and absolutely captivating. The characters and the plot advanced so much, it really is a testament to how brillant of a writer Kika is that she squeezed so much into a duology. Absolutely obsessed, an EASY new favorite series, i love them all SO MUCH (also Edei's background is Egyptian inspired this is a WIN)

I did really like Riley’s journey! While I am not Asian, I do belong to a minority group in America and I found myself relating to the struggle between being an “activist versus just trying to do the best for your own life. It’s a topic I haven’t seen addressed before in a book and I really do commend the author for capturing it so well!

Can't believe it took me this long to write this review. This book was one of my top reads of 2023. If you are like me and LOVE the heist genre, this is the book!! Six of Crows, Ocean's Eleven, whatever you're a fan of, this is your next stop. Kayvion nailed the suspense and anticipation of any good heist, while still writing such fun and complex characters and so so much tension. The concept of a competition to see who's the best thief was so intriguing and it was done so well. Go get this right now I'm serious.

I loved Huda’s (the character) growth this book as she navigated what it means to be Muslim in public spaces. I was lucky enough to help Huda with this book by going to Disney to take reference photos for her! And can I say the illustrations came out BEAUTIFUL and I can’t wait to see them in a hard copy

I really thought I was tired of Greek mythology because it seems to be in almost every book these days but this book revived my love for it. The take on the world and magic was so interesting and captivating, I wasn’t bored AT ALL.
