Novelist's wife goes missing. A year later he retreats to a remote Scottish island to try and recover and revive his writing career. The beginning of the book is well done - loved the description and atmosphere of the island. From there, the book gets crazier and crazier. I like a good twist, but this book had way too many. In the end, it just didn't make sense. 2.5 rounded up.

The 4th novella in the Elements quartet. The main character was a victim of the antagonist of the previous book, and was married to one of the characters from the first book. It sounds complicated, but the author does a great job of pulling together all of the characters and coming full circle to address any loose threads left from the previous three books. In my opinion, the four novellas need to be read in order and without much of a break in between. As I write this, only three have been published - the fourth is due out in May 2025. The books alternates between two storylines - the trauma of her youth, and the trauma she inflicts upon others as an adult. Another uncomfortable read, yet very well-written and compelling.
