This one was really disappointing. Felt like a Tom Clancy book more that a cop in DC book. Patterson had aged Cross very well, where Cross was complaining about old man aches and pains. Suddenly he's a super hero doing unbelievable things. And Nana Mama was old when then series started. Now at 95, she's holding down the fort while Cross and Bree are in danger of their lives. Totally unbelievable and ridiculously plotted. I guess that's what happens when your baby turns into a TV series. ...more

After all, I was thinking that being set in Nashville, it would include country music and maybe some washed up country singers. I could have been more wrong. And as a old man, I almost put it down because it didn't speak to me. Glad I didn't. Tho set in Nashville it starts with the main character, Allison or Al, working at a small music joint, the Venue, but the acts aren't country. Al writes songs but has had a disastrous first performance, making her shy to do it again. Making things worse is her ex-boyfriend, Nick, is making it big, appearing on Saturday Night Live. Her roommate, Sloane, works at a radio station and finally sets up a show that they both host late at night. Her co-workers are interesting. Cole the bartender with whom she fucks. Eddie the asshole. Andy her kindly boss. And her love, who leaves halfway through the book to be road manager for a band. The author has a unique style. Staccato scenes, disjointed phrases, and song lists in which I recognize only a few of the artists. The ending is very touching and appropriate. Highly recommended....more

His interactions with John & Yoko were very interesting and it clearly changed his life. His portrait of each of them was touching, unlike the book by Fred Seaman, who was convicted of stealing Lennon's diaries. Mintz has no time for him and dismisses his profiles of the two, but I suspect it's somewhere in between. ...more

Loved the characters but found the lead a little unlikeable. She was always trying to get away and then when her sister had a relationship with the boy next door, it got quite weird. I've been to the golf club where the sister was employed and ridden the ferry where the lead character worked. Overall I liked it although wasn't thrilled about the ending. ...more
