I loved the back and forth between two generations and the two women whose lives we follow as they face heartbreak, adversity, and hope in two different times. Personally, I was more pulled in by the story that was set during WWII - as Eliane proved to be a character of great perseverance, courage, and resilience to the challenges and turmoil that was happening around her. She was a character that I quite admired and rooted for wholeheartedly.
Recommended for those who like a little romance, a little war intrigue, and little twists in the plot to wrap it all up nicely.
I received a copy of this book from Thomas Allen & Sons for my honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review....more

A great idea since I had forgotten just how great this book is.
I've always liked reading about WWII and Maus is definitely a very unique reading experience of one such account. We are given a narrative within a narrative - but through a comic strip form - where our author is telling his father's story - focusing on the family's experience during the Holocaust. It explores family, love, lost, war, and betrayal. And with all of that, the ways in which people survive and live with guilt. The relationship between the author and his father is one that is tense, fraught with guilt and complicated emotions, and the story feels honest, authentic, and does not hold back about any of the characters. The thing that really stands out about Maus is its form - telling this story through comic allows a bit of the visualization into history. Especially for those who may find historical texts too tedious and boring, Maus brings this very personal and tragic history into a new light that can be enjoyed and experienced for all readers....more
I love Jodi Picoult. And I love reading anything to do with WWII and the Holocaust. And I can't believe that I never realized thatWow. What a journey.
I love Jodi Picoult. And I love reading anything to do with WWII and the Holocaust. And I can't believe that I never realized that this novel was precisely about that until I found a copy of it at the thrift store.
It's this remarkable journey and story - stories within stories - of a young woman and her family legacy. There's the brutal facts of the war interspersed within the framework of the fictional novel.
Jodi Picoult is without a doubt, THE storyteller. This novel of hers is one of my favourites now. Definitely very memorable and worth a read....more
