These are the last days of the Eldaran race. Rowen and Caleb must find their way along the dark path set before them by their ancestors: to heal what was wounded and love where hatred grows. I enjoyed this!! Lots of my questions got answered and the characters grew on me. We find out more about certain side characters and their role in the war at hand. The faith elements are strong without being overwhelming- It felt well done and effortless. I can’t wait to see what happens to everyone in the final installment.

If you’ve read one MD book, you’ve read them all. I keep reading them though because they are perfect for days when I want something light and fluffy. This is the first book in a series and it was sweet as usual. My only problem with this one, was that things kept being repeated over and over and it got a bit frustrating. Still an enjoyable read. I think these books are fantastic for pre teens who are looking for beginner romance novels. The romance is subtle and the MCs are usually great inspirational role models. They are swoon worthy, with just the right amount of cheese, fabulous inner dialogue with scriptures woven throughout perfectly. ...more

Of Fire and Ash most certainly fits the mold of an Epic Fantasy. The writing was fantastic, and world building in a league of its own. I just wish I could say I enjoyed this as much as other reviewers did. I think it’s due to the fact that I don’t read a ton of dense books, I struggled a lot with the storyline. It followed 3 different POVs, with lots of side characters. I found the POVs confusing because I wasn’t sure how any of them connected, until much later. It took me about 150-200 pages for me to really sink in to the storyline, since I was a bit confused. I also struggled with connecting to the characters. Each of the main characters were on a quest of some sort to redemption. While I could empathize with their personal struggles, I didn’t feel a connection to any of them, which really bummed me out. I did enjoy the magical horses, epic battles and my favorite character which was Finnian. I realize it’s the start of something, and maybe the next book will feel a bit easier now that the stage has been set. If you enjoy massive world builds, battles, beautiful writing, magical horses and epic fantasy in general- then this book is definitely for you!!

Afshar has once again captured my heart with her beautiful ability to take a lesser known story from the scriptures and bring it to life. In Bread of Angels we follow the story of Lydia from the Bible (Acts 16). I love how she stays true to the historical details and makes the reader feel like they are transported to that exact time and place in history. This was one of her earlier books and I can definitely see how much she has grown as an author. Not only does she reimagine these characters, the author always teaches us a thing or two through the story and how we can apply it in these modern times we live in....more

Kara Swanson is a fabulous writer. I have really enjoyed some of her previous books. I was excited to try this one out. The world building was excellent and took up a good bit of the beginning of the book- so it does start a bit slow. It picks up around the halfway point and ended up being an enjoyable, unique read. I thought the idea was fresh, new and interesting. There were a couple of things that could have been fleshed out a little more, but that’s my only complaint. I also liked the faith elements, they were woven throughout the story effortlessly. There’s a slow burn romance but not at all the focal point. Would recommend and look forward to the next in the series. ...more

The Calling is such a quick and clean series to dive into. The Choosing was another good installment. I remember reading the first two and wanting to read this one immediately. They are simple and don’t go very deep, but fun to read without much thought. I will say that the slow burn is excruciatingly slowwww but I’m here for it. Also, I gotta admit that Talia got on my nerves a little, she just does not listen. And for goodness sakes, I need Raph to learn how to communicate better. Other than those things, this read was enjoyable and I look forward to the next in the series to see if all the loose ends get wrapped up. Would recommend, if looking for a light, clean and quick read. ...more
