HThis is my first read from Douglas and honestly I might not pick up another. The book has several twist that were a bit predictable for this reader. However I understood the author’s intention. I was expecting more of a thriller since the book is described as a dark suspense thriller, but I don’t see where. Also this book took forever to pick up in several places it was like a slow burn and I wanted an explosion. Once the phone call was received the book picked up a bit but Douglas slowed it down again. The reader is afforded some suspense when the story shifts to Venice, especially when speaking of the alleys. However it felt like the author has a big bowl and added all that she could to it. I think because the story was told in different POV / point of views hence my struggle with the pace....more

Dunlop and Weber shares stories of how MBP can be investigated, and how important it is for police officers and the medical communities to commit to justice so that these children can be protected from their mother. Dunlop experienced this disease in her own family and she shares that story in her book We Came Here To Forget.
We meet three very different women; Hope, Brittany, and Mary. Three cases of medical child abuse. Two authors. One criminal deception: Munchausen by Proxy (MBP).
The Mother Next Door is a compelling exploration of three mothers investigated for MBP. Many victims start with legitimate medical needs, often prematurity, that become exaggerated by their mother’s to the point of placing the child in grave danger.
The author’s passion for these perplexing cases was so evident; Dunlop’s sister was investigated for medical child abuse several times, and detective Mike Weber has spent his career devoted to helping vulnerable children avoid unnecessary medical procedures. This book is hard to imagine but a necessary read.
After reading the last page I'm left still wondering about the doctors? Why did they believe...the author mentions we see what we want. What do you think?

First off I wish Wagtail was real, no cars on the road only golf carts. Furbabies are allowed or there are accommodations made for them throughout Wagtail. My favorite thing about the town is meals can be adapted for the furbabies who wouldn’t want to live there.
In this 10th book of the series Ben, Holly's ex-boyfriend, is in Wagtail with a group of lawyers he works for to decide if they want to establish a law office and Ben sees opportunity that is until folks begin dropping like flies and it’s up to the Murder club and one sniffing hound to support the police to catch this murderer.
A cute story and even though it’s my 1st in the Claws and Paws series I had no issue following the back story. Characters were well written and very easily could’ve been me or you. There was a scene in the book that annoyed me so much I almost put the book down. Well I did put it down but picked it up the next day. Here it is, from what I surmise Holly is a strong mind smart woman but when she said yes to a proposal just because she didn’t want to hurt feelings that to me was silly and out of character for her. I picked the book back up because aren’t we all out of character at times?
Wonderful story and a great group of characters if you enjoy cozies than take a ride to Wagtail you won’t be disappointed ...more

But McQuestion did a great job with the sensitive parts of this story. In fact for the worse characters their supporting ones was so tender and lovable. For example Jacob vs his mother good grief - and then Jacob and Mia I loved the contrast of these relationship Amy and Sharon and Nikki YESSSS fantastic writing of these characters. The storyline is one we all know or should know is happening but we either close our eyes or turn our heads and these two did the exact opposite which for me push this story along. Having a heart for a young child the way Nikki and Sharon did was remarkable. this was my first McQuestion read and will NOT be the last. If you enjoy a mystery with remnants of family and heart breaking plots this is for you. ...more

Once again Maddy finds herself a suspect for someone she had beef with and we know Trooper would stop at nothing to lock her up. Thank goodness for the New Bison crew and top of that list is a hundred pound mastiff named Baby who will and has taken a bullet for its owner.
Burns has such a great pen, the story development outstanding and we’ve been waiting for more information on the Admiral and we got that in this book. We also got to see a beautiful budding friendship, well a couple of those. This story touched my heart because Maddy was struggling and the thing she was struggling with came to light at the end when she finds family and so much more.

The Daughter Between Them had me quickly moving through the story so I could get all my questions answered. What's the back story? Why would a mother do such a vile act? I have heard people say a child will always love their mother no matter what, but those folks might want to ask Nancy, if this is a fact.
While reading I kept wondering how could a child endure so much from her MOTHER, the one who is supposed to protect? How could another hate her mother so much but then fall back in line with her mother as if you can push hatred to the wayside? These relationships between mothers and their daughters were a bit shocking for this reader, but I know it happens. Trauma and generational abuse topped with mental instability is a challenging cocktail.
The Daughter Between Them is an impressive novel about relationships in crisis filled with heartache and trauma that binds these characters. A powerful read that reminds us there truly is an art to writing, what a joyful experience of words.
An advance copy of this novel was provided by the author in exchange for my honest and thoughtful review. ...more

There was nothing original in this title with regards to finding God’s calling in my life. The one the pages felt like they were taken from the Bible but shared in a secular format, for example the Bible says the Holy Spirit will lead us and guide us. This book mentioned it’s our innate instincts that drive our action. Reading that section again I’m hoping he’s referencing the Holy Spirit within each of us. I wanted more of a spiritual aspect from this title or more on the analogy of the giraffes in the chapter titled Taste the Treetops. ( eat at eye level). It’s ok I didn’t get either but I’m glad I had the opportunity to read this book.

They say you don’t know until you know. Well there is no turning back now that I know. This book is a five author collaboration. Each chapter feeds off the next with nuggets the reader can chew on for days if not a lifetime. Out the gate Morgana shared what she feels is the biggest problem women face sacrificing living good (financially), to look good (physically) boom!!!! Yes I know you felt that, as I was reading it I felt it. But I pressed on and settled deeper in my chair before I knew it I was on chapter 5. Brandi opens the chapter with a saying we’ve all heard before but she tweaked it. We can have our cake AND eat it too. This is something I can get with because it makes no sense to have cake I can’t also eat. I’m not going to tell you how financially you can have two good things at the same time, you have to read the book for that.
I will share this growing up my siblings and I didn't discuss money at the dinner table I grew up watching my mom, a single parent provide our needs. She dropped out of school at an early age to care for a sick brother I don't think mom grew up with a healthy mindset regarding money as a result of this that's why I read this book and will continue to refer back to it.

This was one of the best books I’ve read this year. I wasn’t ready for this book at all, but I’m glad I read it. My mental was all over the place I wasn’t sure how to feel in the end.
Let me start with my POV of the author, Yoon is such a thinker and a sister for Social Justice, you can immediately ascertain that from her writing style. A book based on a paradise in California called Liberty, where African Americans thrive and Black men have no fear of racial profiling. Is it freedom or modern day prison illusion?
This book is challenging to review without spoilers or repeating what’s in the synopsis. That’s on me not the author. A moving title that explores trauma, ambition and race, and makes way for a new vision of being black in America.
