When I first started reading this book I was not sure that I was going to like it but I was hooked by page ten. I read half of this book on a flight from San Francisco to Houston.
Saramango's stream of consciousness style was easy to read and held my interest. The human aspect was this novel was almost overwhelming for me in that it was unavoidable. I felt that the omission of specifics such as names, dates and locations by Saramango gave the reader insight into the character's psyches.
I was forced to look at the characeters as "humans" and not "people". Some of the themes of "Blindness" have been worn out but Saramango premise made them all interesting again. However, I am a fan of the grotesque......more

I like the way he draws you into the stories. I like the fact that he is writing fiction about a place and time that he personally experienced. I was completely captivated by the way that he wrote this book about women. He really captured the plight of women in Afghanistan on many levels.
