While I did not expect a happy ending this one seemed rushed and at odds with the rest of the story. On the whole an enjoyable read....more

It also has provided me with a number of interesting party conversations during the holidays. For the record, I do believe that a cyberattack such as Mr. Koppel outlines could happen and clearly we are unprepared. I am just not sure how prepared we could ever be. Mr. Koppel seems to feel that the best solution would be to prevent the attack entirely and I agree but like most Americans I'm not sure that I'm willing to give up the rights that would be required for prevention. Definitely worth the read....more

Really nice writing in this boAfter twenty years Kache Winkel return home to Alaska to confront his ghosts and finds much more than he bargained for. Really nice writing in this book. I enjoyed all the characters but the real strength of the book was in the descriptions of Alaska. You could almost see, taste and smell it. This book had a very strong sense of place that added so much to the story....more

I really liked the main characters and I'm anxious to find out what happens to them in the next book. The author apparently lives in the area that he is writing about and as a result the story has an authentic feel to it. My only real criticism of this book would be that there were so many storylines and characters that the author could not possibly tie everything up in one book (even 800+ pages). The result is a major cliff hanger....more

The audio portion of the book was well done in that the narrator maintained a consistent tone throughout that set the stage for the book. Otherwise I The audio portion of the book was well done in that the narrator maintained a consistent tone throughout that set the stage for the book. Otherwise I didn't much care for this one. I did not like the characters. The story started out boring and then went to super mean and disfunctional. It did end on a positive note with the character learning a valuable lesson, though it was vague on just what that was. Not my cup of tea....more

At that point the author was rediscovering the joy of reading and of reading classics. The book became increasingly silly, however, and my attention waned. The final point I gather is that The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy somehow trumps War and Peace? Well, thankfully I have read Douglas Adams. Great when a book about books makes you feel well read....more
