Society of Psychos is the last book in the Dead Men Walking Duology, and it is so freaking fantastic. I really hate saying bye to any characters, but I'm really going to miss these little psychotic fucks...especially Niall.
SoP has everything that I have come to expect from Peckham and Valenti; a good story line, great characters, humorous moments, touching moments, make you completely rage out moments, make you hot under the collar moments, and an overall really good time. For those of you that love contemporary RH books, then I recommend this series. For those that love psychotic men in their RH books, then I HIGHLY recommend this series. Diesel has some competition in Niall, and I am HERE FOR IT!

Genre: contemporary reverse harem Series: Yes. Book 2 in the Harlequin Crew series (Sinners' Playground is book 1.) Heat: This book is pretty steamy. It has graphic sexual content with mfm and mf encounters. Triggers: on-page violence and death. Also, there are allusions to physical and sexual abuse/rape. Kink: light on-page situations involving blood play and breath play. Cliffhanger: YES
Dead Man's Isle is an amazing follow up to Sinners' Playground. At the end of SP, I was left a pissed off mess. At the end of this one? I was left a fuming, pissed off mess. These authors know how to evoke some strong emotions from me, that is for sure. I don't know of any other author(s) that have managed to make me laugh, cry, scream, yell, and smile so hard my face hurts all in a single book. And Peckham and Valenti? They do it to me every single time. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME! Gahh...I love them.
Okay, so in DMI, we learn some knew things, and are also given a few more puzzles to try and figure out. Also, I was surprised by some characters. Let's just say that there are some people who I hated in SP, and in DMI....well....I don't hate 'em so much. Also, there was one character who I was "eh" about in SP, and now, well now I FUCKING LOVE THEM! There are those that I still wish were dead and gone, but there is still time for me to get my wish on that. :)
If this review seems a bit vague to you, well there is a reason for that. I have recently learned that the Evil Duo (Peckham and Valenti) like to read what their fans write and take extreme delight in crushing their souls. For example, if someone was to say that Peckham and Valenti do not have terrible cliffhangers in their books, well, the ED will take it upon themselves to write the meanest, nastiest, beast of all cliffhangers to ever be written. #truestory. So.....I don't want to say who I like or don't like, because I feel like it's akin to waving a red flag in front of them and daring them to crush me...and well, I don't want to do that.
Additionally, in the vein of being fair and honest, I do need to point out something that I really did not like in this book. If you've read a review or two of mine, then you know I have things I don't like, and I will walk away from books because of it. DMI had one--the constant listing (artists and title) of songs throughout, especially by some artists that I really don't care for, and it drove me fucking nuts. Why did this still turn out to be a 5 star read though? Because, as much as I hated some of it, the good parts were way better. The good outweighed the negatives by far. And also, I know it's a weird thing to not like, and I try to take that into consideration.
Overall, another fantastic book. I cannot wait to get my hands on Carnival Hill. ...more
Okay, so this book gave me serious MK (MK series by Tate James) vibes. Not in the sense that this book is like a copycat or anything, because it’s NOT! This book is uniquely its own, but there was a sense of familiarity I felt. It’s hard to explain, but I think if you loved the MK series, then you’ll love this one too. And, if you didn’t like the MK series, you’ll probably love this one because it’s a wholly different story and beast.
Confusing enough for you?? Yeah, well, I’m not too sure what I’m trying to convey.
Just read the damn thing...it’s worth it.
This is a reverse harem, but that harem isn’t accepted or established in this book. We get a pretty good idea who all will be involved, but it’s not really the focus in this story. Sure, there is sexual tension and some sexy times, but the FMC, Rogue, actually kind of hates the “boys in this book, and she isn’t flitting around trying to figure out how she’s going to make a relationship with them all work. If anything, she’s pretty determined to keep them the fuck away from her. I absolutely HATE and ABHOR FMCs that just fall to mush at the feet of guys because they just can’t help themselves. It disgusts me!! We do not have that problem here. I mean sure, Rogue has feelings for the guys, but she’s definitely not about that “because you say something sweet, I’m just going to forgive and forget every awful thing you’ve said and done to me and jump straight into your arms and bed lifestyle. And to this, I say “Thank Fuck! I’ll take a girl with some steel in her backbone any day over a pushover.
Couple of things I think that are worth mentioning: this book has violence and brushes on the topic of rape and abuse. Additionally, it has some extreme alphaholes (like caveman extreme) and ends with one hell of a cliffhanger. If ANY of these things bother you, take that into consideration before picking this one up.
Also, there is a little novella prequel to this story (Devil’s Pass) that I highly recommend you read before starting this one, but it isn’t imperative. The actual book touches on all the characters history, but the novella delves a little deeper and does a nice job at setting the stage.
C’mon book two - I’m ready!!!
*thank you to the authors for providing me an ARC of this book*...more

Owens (or Kristy Cunning if you prefer) has done it again! This woman is my spirit animal, I swear. Her writing style and story telling are simply...everything. Her ability to give me everything I didn't even know I wanted in a story is just astonishing to me. I could NOT have asked for a better MC or harem of men.
I was so pissed off at the guys at the beginning of this book, and Violet handled the situation beautifully. Without becoming a jealous twat, she laid down the law and got the guys to sit up and pay attention. I just loved it.
I can't say that I am a huge fan of who becomes and how she gets her first "mate", as I was totally hoping that it would have been someone else, but I can't even be mad about it, because I wanted him to be a mate regardless. I just really had my hopes set on someone else first--that last chapter really appeased me though. :)
If I can say anything negative about this book or series, it is that I am totally upset that the next book will be the last. I really want this series to go on and on forever.....so really, my negatives about this series are based more on my own selfish wants and have nothing to do with the story, author, or writing. It really is just that good.
Thanks Ms. Owens for another FANTASTIC read. I'm now off to go stalk you on Facebook and pester you with questions on when book 6 will be released....more
Things pick up pretty much where Trinity left off. Thalia, Rafe, and Mikkel are still in Texas and are dealing with the Torres fight aftermath. Also, Things pick up pretty much where Trinity left off. Thalia, Rafe, and Mikkel are still in Texas and are dealing with the Torres fight aftermath. Also, Mikkel is still struggling with the whole "mate" idea and having his life pre-determined for him (not that I blame him, but c'mon dude...either shit or get off the pot). The third "mate" is introduced and a whole new set of problems are introduced with him. It looks like our triad is on its way to being a quad, and that ending was one hell of a cliffhanger.
Okay, so my overall feelings on this book are a little all over the place. Why? Because I really, really, really did NOT like the third "mate" at all. There was absolutely NOTHING that he said or did that made me like him. Quite the opposite in fact. While reading his POV and about him, I was actually quite skeeved out....like, lip curled in disgust kind of skeeved. (view spoiler)[It had nothing to do with his sexual fluidity, but rather his age (super fucking old), the fact he was boinking a 70 year old dude, his nasty shit-smelling beard, and his overall personality. Yeah....no fucking thanks. (hide spoiler)] Because of my dislike of him, it made it hard for me to enjoy the story.
While I am a huge fan of RH reads and normally love ALL the men, I actually do have a favorite in this quad and that is Rafe. I don't normally fall for the insecure needy-ish types, but something about Rafe really tugs at me. Maybe it's because the H is so damn alpha herself she doesn't really need anyone, but whatever it is, I really like him best, and we see him grow into his new powers a little as well.
As for Mikkel, we also see some forward progress with him, but I wasn't too thrilled with the how's and why's of it. Dude obviously needed a push and something to open his eyes, but it all felt a little too banal. His reason for finally accepting the mate bond had me rolling my eyes so hard. His reasoning definitely moved him from "complicated bad boy" to "typical cave man" in my estimation; very sad really. I normally love me some alpha men and bad boys, but I cannot abide a club wielding Neanderthal (yes, there is a huge difference), and Mikkel began exhibiting signs of the latter. Not cute.
Overall, a good follow up, but I think I liked the first one better. ...more

It is extremely rare for a book to shock me enough that I actually gasp oThis book surprised me over and over again. I am officially on the bandwagon.
It is extremely rare for a book to shock me enough that I actually gasp out loud. With The Wicked King though, I gasped more times than I can count. There were just so many moments that I didn’t see coming. Ms. Black’s ability to weave a story is amazing; I was absolutely riveted. This is an excellent follow-up to The Cruel Prince, and it has quickly elevated this series to one of my all-time favorites.
Jude and Carden are just so much more in this book. Their relationship is so fascinating, it could actually be its own character. The feelings they have are so convoluted and intense, it’s almost palpable. If ever there were any characters that befit the adage “there’s a thin line between love and hate, it is these two characters. I am absolutely in love, IN.LOVE, with how their relationship is playing out. However, after finishing The Wicked King, I’m not sure how any of this is going to work out. Honestly, I feel so betrayed right now. So betrayed.
As with The Cruel Prince, The Wicked King is full of deceit, lies, and secrets. Everyone is so ruthless, it's delicious disturbing. It does make the title very apropos though. I never knew who to trust while reading this, and to be honest, I still don’t. Every character plays a part, and every character has their own agenda. When I finally thought I knew how a character might react or what a character might do, I found myself severely mistaken. If anything, unpredictability was the only predictable thing in this book. If I have trust issues, it is because of books like this. I wonder if Ms. Black would be offended if I send her my therapist's bill?
Did I hate anything about the book? Yeah. That ending. I MEAN C’MON! How are we supposed to read that—knowing that the third book is releasing in 2020—and be okay? It’s not even 2019 yet and here I am already trying to figure out ways to get my hands on The Queen of Nothing. 2019 is going to be a LONG year folks. A long year indeed....more

6. Every now and then, and often to her chagrin, the girl's lingering marrowborn pride would slip through her carefully cultivated facade of not-give-a-fuckery. You can take the girl from the gutter, but not the gutter from the girl. Sadly, the same can be said of the glitter.
4 1/2 Stars This book....THIS BOOK! I feel a little lost right now, I mean, how can I possibly come up with a review that is worthy of this book? Answer is, I can't. It actually took me a few chapters to really start to feel and get into to this book, but once it happened, I was lost.
Seriously, Jay Kristoff is one psychotic, sick, dirty, brilliant motherfecker and Jesus Christ, I ADORE him! Mr. Kristoff first wormed his way into my book nerd heart with the book Illuminae, one he co-authored with Amie Kaufman, a book that I really enjoyed. So naturally, when I saw that he was releasing this little gem, my hands got all grabby and I had to have it. HoLy MoThEr Of GoD though! I wasn't ready! I just wasn't ready. Needless to say, with this book, Mr. Kristoff has now etched his damn name on to my book nerd soul and he has now joined the short list of authors that could publish their grocery list and I would pre-order it, devour it and love it! Nevernight is not a book for the weak and even though our main character is only 16 years old, I would NOT classify this book as a young adult novel, take heed, you have been warned.
Mia is a young girl that has had her life of luxury suddenly and violently ripped out from under her; with her family gone and no one to turn to, she finds her only solace deep within the shadows - shadows that seem to come alive under her touch. With her heart full of hate and her thoughts full of revenge, she meets a man that ultimately guides her down a path of brutality and death, but with the promise of her getting the revenge she desperately craves in her grasp, Mia finds that there isn't anything she won't do...nothing.
Jay Kristoff weaves a dark and savage tale of revenge, loss, love and loyalty. It is as fascinating as it is devastating and with witty commentary and small doses of humor injected throughout, Nevernight has easily become one of my most favorite reads for 2016.
Like I said earlier, this isn't going to be for everyone, there is A LOT of dark in this book and there is A LOT of cussing and brutality and there are even some steamy little scenes that would give some of the titles on my Erotica shelf a run for their money, but beneath all of this, beneath the tough exterior, there is beauty. A beautiful story and a beautiful cast of characters that you find yourself really caring about. Nevernight is like Harry Potter, but only if Harry Potter was for adults and perhaps on acid or something. It's dark, it's twisted, it's beautiful, it's...everything.

Seriously…how am I JUST now hearing aPlease excuse me a moment while I crawl out from under this massive ass rock I have obviously been living under! Seriously…how am I JUST now hearing about this book?? Where has it been? Where have I been? Good God, what year is it? I’m not too sure how this book got by me when it was released, but whatever the reason, I am just really happy that I finally came across it.
Let me introduce you to Meda. Meda is a bad girl, one that happily rejoices in that in fact and she would sooner eat your soul than have to deal with your bullshit. Needless to say, I LOVED Meda. Meda is actually half-demon and half-human, but wholly after my own heart. It’s no secret that I like my female protagonists to have some personality, a little sass doesn’t hurt and I NEED for them to have a back bone; nothing will cause me “to lose my shit faster than a heroine in a story that seconds as a door mat. I will literally break shit. Luckily for me, Meda was all that I like and then some and the ensemble cast of characters were just as likeable and enjoyable as Meda.
“But we’ll all die! I argue with them as if they make the decision. Chi looks at me and manages to quirk up a corner of his mouth. “Weren’t you ever taught not to make a deal with the devil? You never win. I can only sputter. “At least all the children escaped. That’s all that matters, Jo says with a stiff nod. But I don’t care about the children. “You’re willing to die? Just like that? Jo turns towards me. Her voice is calm but now I see her eyes blaze in a holy hazel fire. She doesn’t want to die, but she will, for what she believes in. I need new friends.
Angels, demons, magic, hidden societies, romance, violence, dark secrets, a plot for world domination and humorCracked has it all. This was one of those books that hooked me within the first few chapters and I didn’t set it back down until I was finished with it. It was really that good. Aside from loving the characters in this book, I also really enjoyed the plot and storyline and Ms. Crewe’s writing style. Everything just worked together so cohesively, I literally lost myself in the book. It was morning when I started and it was night when I finished, I spent the whole day reading and didn’t even realize it. I can now blame Ms. Crewe for not having any clean socks to wear, she had me reading when what I really should have been doing was washing my socks. Oh the sacrifices we make all in the name of a good book!

Those dirty socks!!! Smh.
Overall, yes, I definitely recommend this one to read. Those of you that are looking for a nice love story with a mild mannered heroine, you are going to need to keep looking; there is nothing for you here. Those of you that are looking for an exciting read and doesn’t mind a heroine with some attitude, then you just hit the jackpot! I have already downloaded book two and from what I have read online, it looks like there are slotted to be three books in the series, with the third one being released later this year. If this truly is to be a trilogy, then I hope to see some other work from Ms. Crewe, because based off of what I have read thus far from her, I’m already a huge fan.
