I read my first Lisa Jewell book Watching You two years ago, and I have not looked back. Her thrillers are fresh and unique and each of her books is a force unto itself. You are kept guessing the entire ride, and that鈥檚 how I love my thrillers. More thoughts to come.

I鈥檓 so excited to finally share my thoughts with you on this book. It鈥檚 one I looked forward to all summer long, and I literally enjoyed every sentence. This was my first book from Curtis Sittenfeld, and I found her writing flawless. She pulled me right in to the heart of this story, and my interest never waned, even at over 400 pages.
If you aren鈥檛 aware, the premise is that Hillary Rodham does not marry Bill Clinton. What direction does her life take instead? If you have had a hard time accepting Hillary as is, I think this book may give you some insight even though it鈥檚 fiction. I was already a fan, and I still gained so much insight into her character and the whys and hows (I know, it鈥檚 fiction). It鈥檚 funny because, as I write this review, I鈥檓 listening to In Her Own Words, by Ruth Bader Ginsburg. One of the first things she describes is her love for her husband and how he was willing to love an intellectual, powerful woman, and how rare that is and was, especially for that time.
Back to Rodham, I could not put it down. It鈥檚 steamy- wow, steamier than anything I鈥檝e read recently, smart, and insightful. There鈥檚 good tension, too, as you follow along to see what will happen next for Hillary. I thought the whole thing was brilliant.

Don't Close Your Eyes is billed as a thriller, but I think it's more of a coming of age story centered around an extremely dysfunctional family. The last few chapters were indeed thrilling, but the rest was a wonderfully well-written family saga with short chapters (LOVE) in each twin sister's voice and back and forth in time between past and present.
The characters were well-developed, and Callum was most definitely my favorite. As with any dysfunctional family, this one is full of drama and many difficult situations arise. Mental health issues also abound. I felt that the author handled these with sensitivity.
I enjoyed the entire experience of reading this book, but those last few chapters I mentioned above- I did not guess the twist at all! I re-read the words on the page multiple times because I was flummoxed I hadn't guessed it!
Thanks to the author, the publisher, and 欧宝娱乐, I won this amazing book in a giveaway, and this was my honest review....more
