I’m almost sad this series is over. ‘Almost� because I know I will re-read it in the not-too-distant future. I’ve had a hit-and-miss relationship with proper dark romances/erotica. They have to straddle a fine line for me to like them with the hero not doing anything too unforgivable but still being a believable badass. And ofc, the heroine needs to have at least two brain cells to rub together.
This series obliterated all my hangups. It was by far, the darkest series I’ve read, probably the only real captive themed one. There were elements I absolutely do not condone ofc but Anna Zaires is so skilled that she made them work just enough that I was satisfied.
Julian and Nora are one of my all time favourite couples. Also, how exciting is it that our heroine is Latina? Yes to more diversity in female leads of romances!! (I’m aware that Julian is also part Latino but I have certainly seen more ethnically diverse heroes than heroines. Hence the celebration!)...more

But that’s ok because I like to think that these characters and I grew up together as the series progressed and that this is his final form. And if so, I dig it. Rose is the real hero. Still lovin me some Lo. Ryke is ominously fast creeping up in my estimation. I sense a book hangover in my future.....more
