A lead character I was rooting for. Jack McEvoy the reporter. He ends up out-detecting most of the real detectives.
A brilliant serial killer, a hunt, a trap, deception, twists and turns. This one has many of the items a good thriller has.
I pictured it as a classic 1990’s movie.
The best part? There are two more books in this series. (This book seems complete, but I want more of Jack and Rachel!)
Another excellent volume in the Langdon series. The tension and expectations held my interest throughout. The big reveal that is postponed. The twistsAnother excellent volume in the Langdon series. The tension and expectations held my interest throughout. The big reveal that is postponed. The twists and turns as to who is doing what. Leading to all the reveals at the end. Yes, I guessed a few of the mysteries but still eager to see if I was correct.
I’m still partial to picking Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code as my favorites, and Inferno right up there with this one. All are highly entertaining. Hey, and I was learning things in the process.
Eager to read Secret of Secrets in September 2025. ...more

It’s interesting but I started feeling a disconnect about midway through. The main character Annie was not reacting to the situation she was in like I thought she would. Then the last half of the book was more like a Hallmark movie with a touch of police procedural tossed in.

I appreciated the unusual way the story progressed. Sort of in reverse. We find out things early that are usually held till the end. We find out how people were reacting to her going missing later instead of when she went missing, etc.
All in all I was dissatisfied with most of the book and still trying to figure out why. I guess I stopped believing what was happening to the point later I was expecting one event to turn out to be her dreaming it. No, it was happening.
Actually a 2.5 rating as the first 1/2 was interesting enough and I did finish it. ...more
