It was a school setting but FOR ADULTS. It loved . Being able to indulge in that particular setting without having to read about 16 year olds and drama that comes with that. The characters are mature enough to understand what drama is and isn't worth fighting for. The girls understand the value of strong female friendships.
For those of you who loved the set up of Jaymin's Hive trilogy, SA is right up your alley with one girl surrounded by 5 fierce protective boys, but only one she truly loves.
I love anything to do with Atlantis so this story was especially addicting. I'm so sick of shifters, vamps, the normal supernatural. While those supes were around, they weren't the center of the story and I soaked up every bit of this world. I am in desperate need for book 2!

A happy ending that required no more, no less. But I missed the surprised of hook 1 and 2. For there were none in 3. Guesses were correct and plots were a little too predictable (though that didn't take away from the fun).
There was so much space to work with on this 3rd book. It deserved more. More blood, wretchedness, love.
1. Taryn's story deserved to be fleshed out. 2. I wanted more on the mysterious changed queen who may or may not be as much of a prisoner as we think. 3. I want more Cardan who was seen far too little in book 3 in my opinion. 4. I want more Grima Mog, who was one of the most fun characters 5. I want more cunning, clever, and intrigue.
I loved this book, but I wanted more than just a happy wrap up. It's hard to rate. The fun factor, great writing, and wit was nothing less than 5 star. But the lack of actual content that intrigued me? That was a 3. So, it gets an average. 4 stars it is....more

I do not even have the words to explain the magnificence of this book. Nay, this series. . I am just so blown away by the sheer amount of detail and research that has gone into this book. EVERY question is accounted for. Move over Brandon Sanderson and Patrick Rothfuss. Let Deborah Harkness teach you a thing about plot planning and foreshadowing. By the end of this series, I'd be very surprised if Harkness didn't basically have a masters of science degree in microbiology and genetics. The vocabulary in this book. I have NEVER learned more from a book than I did in this series (not counting my GRE books). I learned about 1. Anthropodermic bibliopegy 2. Palimpsests 3. SO MUCH VOCABULARY 4 a little bit of history mixed in with fantasy: the crusades, battles, etc. 5.Genetics
I can't write a coherent review that explain's the sheer genius that is All Souls Trilogy. You're going to have to read it to understand what I mean when I say she has thought of EVERY complex little details. I only wish we got more secrets from the books of life. But really, after how much she fleshed out this story, I can't complain that much. EACH and EVERY Character was compelling, and believe me, there were a lot of them. At the end of the day, underneath all the detail, and history, and events, the All Souls Trilogy, at its core, is a love story. So if you're a sucker like me for em, This series NEEDS to be on your "read" list ASAP.
It is tedious and does take a while, but it's worth it, trust me. ...more

I'm here to tell you that Black Crown is the thrilling conclusion to Wagner and St. Clare's hilarious story following Ryn, the most powerful drae.
If you're reading this, I assume you've read book 1 & 2. If you haven't...well, go do that. Right. Now. Seriously, I'll wait...
Are you with me now? Good, let's get on with it then. As usual you can expect to laugh out loud. Ryn, at her core, is still Ryn- the competetive potato queen obsessed with her shiny hoard. You can also expect a couple clever quips from Tyrrik as he really starts to open up. You can also expect to cry, feel betrayed, and learn to play cards. And let me tell you, it ain't the normal type of game.
We pick up with the goal to put Lani back on the phaetyn throne as the rightful heir. The journey, however, is not an easy one. One that forces Ryn and Tyrrik to *gasp* compromise and learn to balance their mate relationship with the responsibilities they have chosen to take on. It may be one of the most important things they learn worth their iminent battle against Draedyn soon coming to a climax.
As a YA fantasy, romance book 3 is quite heavy on the romance aspect with Ryn finally coming to terms with her mate bond. Black Crown is slightly on the more mature side, dealing with Ryn's discovery of sex. However, I would put it at a reader level comfortable for anyone who understands what sex is and what comes of it. You see, Wagner and St. Clare do an effortless job at exploring mature themes all without describing that actual act. Though be warned, the descriptions are everything but the kitchen sink, so to speak.
I loved the ending. It wasn't all sunshine and dasies. It was, however, what it needed to be. It left my heart perfectly content and happy. As readers, we all know the feeling of a great series, all to be left with a subpar ending. Fear not, this is not one of those series. You will end crying (if you're like me) and then probably signing with relief 3 pages later, thinking it's over. But Surprise!! The authors cater to their fans (they know what we like *Shrugs*) and give us a couple extra chapters than were necessary, and I tip my hat to them for that. I laughed, and felt happiness, and didn't need it, but it made the ending perfect; it didn't leave is wanting- a feeling I am familiar with at the end of most series.
Hot Potato, this is 100% one of my favorite series to date. I usually end saying I wish there was more, but no. I am content a with how the series ended. Do I want more? Always, but I don't need it and I am still reeling from that amazement....more

Hands down the best book I've read in 2019. I was completely enraptured by Lim's story telling.
Maia is the innocent, genuine, motivated and hopeful FMC.
Edan is all the enigma, power and hopelessness we crave in a MMC.
Spin the Dawn enters us into a new magic system embedded in a vague but familiar enough east Asian history that allows the author to make changes as she sees fit.
The mythology is Rich and well written, Maia and Edan's parts are written, broken, and rewritten to a point where they are, likely , a part of the mythology themselves in many ways. I know that may not make sense now, but it will after you read it.
Of note, the number 3 is often considered lucky in many Asian cultures, especially if something is grouped in 3s. That concept comes into play a lot in Spin the Dawn. Maia"s story has 3 parts (in book 1) She has 3 brothers she has 3 tasks initially to determinrme her abilities She has 3 more errands to test her metal She has 3 wishes that would truly settle her soul and see it happy.
The cycle is broken when Maia or someone else interferes, but the initial number is always 3.
I'll stop ranting. My point was. There are a lot of tasks, and they themselves aren't particularly noteworthy, but it's the journey of each task that makes this book so memorable.
I strongly recommend Spin the Dawn who loves new magic/mythology, consuming romance, and great character building.

I have not finished a book in about 3 weeks you guys. I've been in a book slump/reading slump -call it what you may- of incredible proportions. Leave it to Jordan Rivet's final book in the Steel and Fire series to end my terrible curse.
There is so much good in this book: strong family bonds, trusting and swoon-worthy relationships, maturing characters, and a desire for good and peace to win over evil and destruction.
If you enjoy all those things and dragons by the butt-load, you need to pick up this series ASAP! Each book gets better and better! Granted, the final book was a little slow starting. I got a wee bit bored with all the in-fighting and distrust among allies of various regions. But finally- when they got to the finally battle DAMN WAS IT GOOD.

I needed the next book like about 2 chapters before the end because. Was ANY OF IT REAL? IS ANYTHING ANYONE EVER SHARED REAL? I DON'T KNOW.
I can't write a decent review without spilling everything. Let me leave it at this, I was excited, I was happy, this was going to be a comfort book with all my favorite tropes, and instead it tore me apart like piece by piece, each shard of hope broken so completely I cannot see a way of reconciliation ever.

5 darkest stars to a book I know I will be re-reading many times over.
Actual Review: so after taking like a month to calm down, I'm still obsessed with this book, but a bit more coherent. So I owe this book a review. Kamzin is a village head's daughter, she is an extremely capable climber, but that's about it. However, her people expect her to be the next shaman as her older sister takes her place as their future leader. However, their village gets word that the most famous explorer, River, is coming to their village before he embarks on a difficult journey that no one has ever attempted. After a series of betrayals and events, Kamzin agrees to help River navigate the mountain.
River is quite the enigmatic character. His actions, powers, and how he manages to get by every impossible hurdle can't be explained. He's always been aloof and alone, but Kamzin breaks a very small layer of ice around his heart. I do believe he cares for her in some ways after the journey they go through together. River finds in Kamzin an equal in terms of climbing and passion. However, they find their are passionate about incredibly different things, and this leads to some serious heartbreak and betrayal. All the characters change vastly from page 1 to the very last page. You honestly do not know who the characters truly are and what they are capable of. Even then, I expect more change in book 2.
Even the Darkest Stars was not a book I expected to love. It seems like it's about mountain climbing, but oh my god, it is so incredibly well written and about so much more. Witches, ancient beasts, hidden powers, and evil. Fawcett truly pulls you in with her writing. The side characters are very well developed and you get enough of an impression to like, love, or hate them. They've got their own quirks and agendas. The only problem I have is that I hate the whole childhood best friend in love with the MC thing and follows her to the ends of the earth. Stop it, this trope is overused. (view spoiler)[ Tem- the childhood friend in question- I swear to the powers that be if this becomes a Grisha novel where River is truly evil and Kazmin and Tem realize their love for each other and defeat him, I'm going to scream. I cannot go through that again, because quite frankly, I love the evil dudes. [image] (hide spoiler)] This book questions morals too. What is evil, and is suppression of a people condoned by evil, no matter what the species? Just SO. MANY. QUESTIONS. And tears, but maybe that's just me. It also really makes you think, what would you be willing to give up for what you want most. The answer isn't what you always expect of people or for youself....more
I was not expecting this to be a 5 star book, but damn, The Mirror King pleasantly surprised me in all the right way. The feels!!
I admit I always get I was not expecting this to be a 5 star book, but damn, The Mirror King pleasantly surprised me in all the right way. The feels!!
I admit I always get a little nervous when MCs/love interests split off, but with all that was going on in Wil's life, you didn't really have time to miss Tobiah. Not to mention, that even though he wasn't there physically for about 40% of the book, it's not torturous. Wil's and James' thoughts and diaries (you'll see) kept Tobiah's presence and influence as strong throughout the radio silence period. Also, Wil isn't one of those people that just breaks down when she's not with her man. She's as strong as ever and learns to rely and trust others.
speaking of others, I loved the strong bond between Wil and Melanie. I didn't think Mel would get much page time but I'm so glad she did. They are such a hilarious duo.
I also became attached to James and Chrysalis even though Chyrsalis was devoid of morality for a big chunk of the book. But he learned in the end. He never fully got it, but he learned to adapt to what Morality Wil held dear to her. James on the other hand was so incredibly dependable with so much love to give. I adored his character so so much. He was the ever-present guard who doubled as the steady hand and trustworthy friend both Wil and Tobiah desperately needed in this duology.
the phrase "say it again" in lieu of "you can say that again" still annoys the living daylights out of me, but not enough to love this book less.
Oh, and one more thing...Army of tiny vigilantes.THE LIST. THE LIST. THE LIST. *major swoon* If you're really confused right now, that's to be expected. You'll just have to pick up the book to read THE LIST. curious yet??
Orphan Queen was amazing, but Mirror King was even better. If you've read the first and enjoyed it, do yourself a favor and pick up Mirror King.
If you haven't read the series but enjoy black clad vigilantes who kick ass, strong friendships, and great plot that intermingles fantasy and dystopia, you need to pick up Orphan Queen right now. What are you waiting for!? SHOO!!

This is my first book by Harmon and I hope it won't be my last. The author's writing is absolutely gorgeous, poetic, and so well thought out. I felt like the words were slipping off the pages and into images, that's how imaginative Harmon's prose is.
Bird and the Sword had all my favorite genres and tropes: YA/Fantasy/Romance with devlish ( but kind) princes, evil parents, and a magic system with persecution of Magic people.
With all that, how could I not fall in love with this book!?

so, it's done and I originally was going to give it only 4.5 stars, but I can't because there was never a boring moment. Not one. and even if it wasn't what a COURT OF Mist and Fury was, I realized that it was still a 5 star book in that about 25% was in the midst of bloodthirsty war (which I usually hate in books), but somehow ACOWAR kept my interest. Every. Single. Page.
SJM SLAYED the story. So much that I am content and not left desperately wanting for more of Rhys and Feyre's story. She wrapped it up so completely that I need no more. Do I want more? Always, but not in that wanting sense where authors don't finish the characters' tale at the end. I'm just not a fan of the open ended/just figuring things out at the last minute then boom-done- type of endings
Yet, now I MUST have more of other characters. I want more stories of Vassa's plight and Jurian's story. I want more Nesta and Cassian. More of Drakon and Miryiam. Though a little guest appearance from our favorite dry-wit couple would not have me complaining in the least!
The only downfall was in Elain's Character. She was weak until her final redeeming moment. From Elain, I expected more. I wanted Elain to step up. No, she didn't need to step up the way our girl Nesta did, but step up and at least support her sisters. Stop moping for literally almost the entire book. I mean it would have been reasonable for her to have her moments of weakness, she was the soft sheltered sister after all, but really? To be useless the entire book save for one crucial moment? There is no redemption for Elain in my eyes.
Overall the ending was a little too unrealistically happy after how devastating that war was, but I'm all about the HEAs, so nott complaining. Will I be reading this book again? HELL YES. Will I be reading the rest of the series despite Rhys and Feyre's story coming to an end? Absolutely.

HOLY BATMAN That's it. I was thinking it before but this book sealed the deal for me. Kelly St. Claire's Tainted Accords BY FAR is my favorite series oHOLY BATMAN That's it. I was thinking it before but this book sealed the deal for me. Kelly St. Claire's Tainted Accords BY FAR is my favorite series of the year. I usually try to hold judgement till at least October, but I can't. NOTHING will ever. beat the intensity, loyalty, romance, and empathy that you will find ( or you yourself will feel) thanks to book 3. But it had to be built up by books 1 and 2' IT'S ALL SO GENIUS. Okay, on to the real review:
Olina is back at the castle for good, struggling to maintain all three of her personas (Tatuma olina, Frost, and Willow.) Meanwhile, there is rebellion in the middle and outer circle. It's up to Olina to piece it together, but trust is far away and disconnected. Olina must finally make the decision to do away with her veil or continue hiding behind it. Oh, and war is on the way too, maybe, with the Solati. So she really needs to decide fast. just FYI.
SWOOOON. Everything in this book was absolutely perfect. My thirst for a perfect romance was FINALLY quenched. None of that soft porn bullshit masked as new adult, but also enough that you're not thinking "COME ON ALREADY. PLEASE KISS. JUST GIVE ME A LITTLE ACTION!!"
The plot and romance were well balanced. there was never a dull moment in the fighting scenes, AND Olina even double tapped her opponent. NO, triple tapped. God, I'm so proud. Thank you for not being a dumbwitted character who turned your back your enemy.
the relationships in this book were endearing. the delegates and fight our crew equally had important roles as Olina's support and all played an important part In her success. I didn't just see them as side characters. I saw them as people she loved and could not do without. Olina could not be who she needed to be without them, and I'm so glad the author made an effort to flesh these "side characters" out.
Well, all that's left to say is that I'm going to have severe book hangover and withdrawal from this series. Counting down the days eagerly till October 10th!!...more

Also, Jovan is MVP of girl crush Tuesday...and Monday, and Wednesday. Hot damn.
So why the four stars instead of five? Because I really didn't enjoy the plot of Olina meeting the people of the sky. We already had her personas as Olina and Frost, I just got bored with the Willow story. Her pretending to be two people is enough. I get why it needed to happen (explained in book 3), but it didn't stop it from being boring. Nothing happened, the people were boring, the love-interest was boring. Just no.
War has finally come, except our fearful Lina is leading the march. I say fearful, because fear makes her strong. SO strong.
lovely ending to the seri War has finally come, except our fearful Lina is leading the march. I say fearful, because fear makes her strong. SO strong.
lovely ending to the series and def a reread in the future. There are, of course trials and tribulations, but overall a very vengeful, satisfying ending which leaves you even pitying the most vehement of characters. Kinda saw the ending coming, with the King and her together, and how they overcame the massive boundaries that is..uh, their countries- but I wouldn't have wanted it any other way!
Kendrick's killer thing was real weird and Lina's relationships with her "father" figure both biological and adopted got pretty fucked up, but hey, it was one hec of a story!

I admit I wasn't sure the plot could be pulled off artfully given how overused it is, but, nevertheless Schwabb made it her own. The end broke my heart and made me so happy at the same time. It was bittersweet. My one request is more Kell Lila romance!! just a little bit!!

OH. MY. GOD. I cannot breathe. That was so overwhelming powerful I don't know what to do with myself. Never did I think I could imagine Rhys and Feyre with each other when there was Tamlin to think of, but oh my god I take it back. I TAKE IT ALL BACK. Rhys and Feyre are perfect together in a billion ways that Tamlin and Feyre were not. Feyre has the opportunity to grow, be strong, and make choices that she never had before. And every step of the way Rhys and her new family help her grow accustomed to her new powers and grow into her self confidence.
I loved her new family: Cassian, Azriel, Mor, Amren. All so quirky and loving in their own ways. My heart is breaking because I need the next book SO MUCH. I need more of Rhys and Feyre fighting as a team, I need more fiery Nesta, I need Cassien's easy going ways and Mor's absolute loyalty and friendship, and Amren and Azriel's menacing silence and shadows. Where do I even start this review? The war continues against Erawan with Aelin gathering her troops for the ultimate showdown. Except, that doesn't happen yet, because Aelin and co. literally get thrown into a shit show. As per the usual, Aelin of the wildfire almost always has a plan, and as usual, she doesn't share shit with anyone, except Lysandra. Lysandra really grew in my heart. She was Aelin's forever loyal co-conspirator, willing to do anything and everything for the sake of her Queen.
The main cast is finally united, whether all of them are going to stay on the same side yet still remains to be determined. Up till this point, I must say I was really not a fan of Manon, but oh boy am I now. She is BAE in this series. Like, really she has to make some tough decisions and comes out fighting. Though her romance with Dorian was so excruciatingly forced.
Shame on you SJM, SHAME [image]
Seriously, please stop pairing off everyone, it is not necessary and quite frankly annoying. half a star off for that. The other half star off for the abrupt switch from YA to NA. Now, in her book it made sense. There was a natural progression, BUT a book that is YA should remain YA. Like don't get me wrong, I love a great smutty guilty pleasure sex scene-like this book was great- but hey (wo)man, young teens love and read your series. Might not be appropriate (or fair) to suddenly change the audience on us.
Okay, so I felt certain parts lagged, but wow the last 20% was just like punch after punch. I was like wow, how the F*** does Aelin deal, an by association, Rowan. Poor guy. We get a pretty big plot twist near the end with the mother of cliffhangers. The last 20% truly was make or break for me on deciding between a 3.5 or 4 star rating.
As usual, the emotion and depth of characters are solid and the drama sufficiently built up. I don't think it's possibly for me to read a SJM book that is written badly. Props SJM, props. Now, if you excuse I'll continue to sit here and ponder over that ending while I have 2 finals within the next 48 hours.

Felicity (Flick) Eastwood can transfer happiness from one person to another. However, she herself, feels none. One evening after her volunteer shift at the hospital, she feels a shiver down her spine. This marks the first time in 3 years she has felt any real emotion, thus, she decides to follow it. And it ends at Achilles, a super-villain with a face painted like a skeleton. Only, where she should be screaming and running for her life, he intrigues her, and her him. Once Achilles finds about her power, he decides he must have it for himself and kidnaps her. Here is where the story picks up; Stockholm syndrome in a world where no one is black or white, but every shade of color possible.
I just want to gush.
The CharactersFelicity and Achilles are some of the most complex characters I've ever had the pleasure of reading about. The fact that the author doesn't reveal all the skeletons in their closets (pun intended) adds to the mystery and personality of these incredibly imperfect characters. To be honest, we never do find out about Achilles past, where he came from, how he came to be the way he is. We just accept that he is a weird fish out of water, as is Felicity. Though, we do get a teeny bit more of a peek into her background.
Felicity's best friend, Lucia, was built up just enough to find endearing yet not worry too much about what happens to her in the end. She helps provide backbone to the story in a much needed place and she could not be more perfect.
The Romance. They are so imperfectly perfect for each other. They fill in all the small weak points that have made their lives blase hitherto: he makes her strong, she makes him soft. At the end, they infinitely seem more human in their imperfect fish out of water ways.
The Plot. So incredibly unique. It's not just a story of Stockholm Syndrome. It's ultimately a story about courage and how love changes people in all the right ways. Achilles will never be all good. But he learns to be good enough for Felicity. It is also a story about growing into yourself and not letting your demons rule your life. Everyone has demons, but sometimes you have to get up and face them head on, and it's okay to require a little bit of help.
The world building. This is probably the one element I found lacking in Equal Parts. We know we have a world with superheroes and super-villains. We know they fight each other. We know that authorities are pretty bad at catching the bad guys. Yea, that's about it. While I enjoyed no detail was wasted on useless landscape descriptions, I would have enjoyed knowing more about this world and how this mapping of superhero/supervillain fit outside of Felicity and Achilles' city.
It ended on a note that didn't wrap up nearly enough, but was just perfect. I can't explain it any other way. You'll have to read it to find out. I highly recommend this book for anyone who understands that people are not just good or evil and wants to explore that, as well as an amazing love story....more

However She has been kept under a veil and been given no training by a mother who hates her vehemently. Her only solace is in her secret martial arts training, her brother, and her forbidden lover (and prince) of another world. When her lover is killed Olina is kidnapped by his entourage and bought to his world (Osolis) as a prisoner. Why is it then that she feels more free and loved as a prisoner under the care of the foreign (swoonworthy) king than she did when she did on her own planet?
I loved this book. Olina is strong, Olina is fierce, Olina is vulnerable. She just lost the man she loves and somehow she finds purpose out of his death: to survive, to find out who killed him, and to gain a freedom she dared to dream of before. Okay, but I have some questions.
WHY DID SHE NEVER THINK ABOUT TAKING OF HER VEIL IN SECRET?!?!?! LIKE WHY!?!?

Jovan, he's a bit of a character. He is also mourning his brother's death but makes a point to treat Olina with respect (most of the time). He's growing on me in other ways than just being swoonworthy and...dare I hope their relationship will turn romantic. Yes I do, I hope with all my god damn might.

So many feelings. As usual, Elise Kova has thrown my heart into so much turmoil over all that Valla and Alderik must overcome and grow through in the So many feelings. As usual, Elise Kova has thrown my heart into so much turmoil over all that Valla and Alderik must overcome and grow through in the next book. It seems like an impossible feet and one thing EE and WW taught me was that no single character is safe from Elise Kova's wrath.
The change in both Alderik and Vhalla is so palpable in this book. They changed so much from their hot headed "act now, think later" attitudes.
"the fire burned too hot, and we didn't notice until it consumed everything"
They were so much more calm, mature, and independent in this installation. They weren't always the people they wanted to be, but they were the people they needed to be. That spoke volumes to their character growth and ultimately their stronger love.
"Love was bravery and -- perhaps most importantly-- forgiveness."
Vhalla also finally moves on from characterizing herself as just the windwalker, owned by the crown. For the first time, she truly has the opportunity to be so much more. She has the opportunity to explore Vhalla Yarl, as she is currently, to her full extent.
"She still had her knowledge and her will. With those thing she would still be deadly."
All in all another fantastic addition. the usual heartbreak and tears that comes with this series is present as ever in WW. Beware. that's all I'll say on that. I miss the passionate and fiery Vhalla and Alderik, but as I said before, they are turning into who they need to be. It was good to see Elicia, Frtitz, Jax and the crew again. Baldair has always had a special place in my heart right from book one and that continues in book numero four.
I can barely wait to see what Elise Kova brings in Crystal Crowned. AHHHH.
