Amelie Kurosaki is a high school girl and a vampire. She decides to pursue her crush, the Bad Boy Pako. In doing this, she breaks all five laws, and reveals her true nature to him. Can their love flourish?
The art was beautiful, and I loved the character designs, particularly for the Kurosaki family. However, I'm not about that werewolf / vampire romance. I know there was only a chapter left, but I felt like that was really shoved in there. ...more

The ending absolutely made me want to read it again and formulate my own opinion....more

As stated in the blurb, we do follow the perspective of three teens as they are drawn towards Ruby the titular undead redhead. This was an interesting read, but not without a few issues for me.
I’m not familiar with Celtic folklore. I think if I was, I might better understand Ross’s origin of vampirism / Ruby’s backstory a bit better, and it would clear up some questions of ‘do vampires in this world have a solidified set of abilities, or is Ruby simply able to do whatever the plot demands? Our narrators become increasingly less sympathetic. That’s not inherently bad. One of our narrators is coming from an actively physically abusive family environment, and that dynamic is replicated with her boyfriend. That’s not going to stop the second she leaves the house, or is in a different environment. But then we get Connor, who just seems to dealing with a certain level of ennui, and frustration because he believes he will never leave his town. When we see these characters again, they are doing much better. Again, that’s not bad but it would be helpful to see how. One of our characters is no longer suffering from schizophrenia as a rule, I don’t like vampirism as a cure for physical or mental maladies but that’s straight forward enough. That’s not the case some of the other characters. Ruby is drawing these people to her with the intent of making them part of her family. It would be nice to see her mothering them, or some interactions in that vein.
I do think Ross is a very talented author, even when I didn’t like the characters, I found her writing very engrossing. If she ever returned to this world, I would be interested in reading it. ...more
