Focuses on prehistoric to Ancient Greek and Roman times in Europe and the Middle East. Uses archaeological and linguistic evidence to trace the movement and development of technologies.
As a weaver and crocheter, I appreciated learning about the history of fiber and the development of looms. I was a little disappointed however in how Euro and Middle Eastern centric the book was. I'd have loved to learn some about how fiber arts developed in the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Australia. ...more

Writing style was good but format was a little bit off putting with each chapter being divided into 4 sections. It seemed to mess up the flow a bit. ...more

He describes his early love and talent with art and his grandparents' endless support.
The limited color pallet Krosoczka uses makes this really pop. I love the cartoon style and the upfront way that Krosoczka presents his upbringing. It is obvious that he cares a great deal for his grandparents.

This book reminded me a lot of Jess Keating's world of weird animals series. Lavelle picked a fun and unique topic to write about - is it an animal's butt or face. It really highlighted some of the different adaptations animals have and helped to showcase exactly how weird and wonderful nature can be. While I may have liked to have a little additional information about the different animals, the bite size bits of information (and topic) will be great for reluctant readers....more

This reallyAnya Von Bremzen and her partner travel to Italy, France, Japan, Spain, Mexico, and Turkey hoping to explore each country's national dish.
This really just didn't do it for me. I made it about 80% through before I gave up. Writing was often dry and uninteresting. I was expecting a bit more history and culture vs getting to know the people that Von Bremzen talked to while doing her research....more

It Holes discusses his involvement with several well known cases, including the Golden State Killer and their impact on himself and his relationships.
It really bothered me that Holes would acknowledge that he knew his deep involvement with cases hurt the people around him but always tried to justify it with the case being solved. He even said near the end that he wanted to pull back some from cases, see a counselor, and devote more time to his second wife and children and immediately becomes involved in another cold case. While I admire his dedication to his work, the fact that he acknowledges that it is a problem, says he's going to fix it, and immediately does the same behaviors just doesn't sit right with me. ...more
