This is the story of Lizbeth Rose, a gunny (or a gun-for-hire) in an alternate word, potentially post-apocalyptic, of time period I can best guess is 1920s+. The political boundries are all different (Holy Russian Empire, Texnoma). Gunny is hire do escort some Grigoris across the desert. Things don't go well.
This was an ok story. A lot long for what it was, but the world that Harris builds here is potentially quite interesting, and we really never learn much about it. We get snippets as the characters move through it, but not enough to feel like you know the place.
The voice of Gunny Rose is repetitive and stereotypical of a "tough" western character that doesn't really bring anything new to the table. Harris repeats herself as Gunny over and over and over and beats some of her core personality to death.
Overall, as I said, ok. Will I read more? Maybe? It wasn't awful, but the story also wasn't that interesting....more

As you can expAll the White Spaces is a ghost story set in late age of exploration. This the story of the Randall expedition exploring the Antarctic. As you can expect, with all polar exploration, things go from bad to worse to haunted.
This is a great tale of a polar expedition with a dash of horror. Despite what the book sells, this is more a story of the expedition than anything. There is a ghost story here, but we do not start to see and feel its tendrils till about the 50% mark.
Overall, good, and it has horror in it, but the horror is, IMO, very light. This is more a story of a polar expedition gone wrong. The Terror mixes the horror and exploration a bit more liberally. Both are good. The Terror is a bit better, but this is a worthy entry....more

I enjoyed this far more than I thought I would, but it plays with some of my favorite things--combining old stories with new ideas. It suffers from being a bit ridiculous at times at the abilities of kids, lack of punishment for the guilty, but, after all, it is aimed at young adults....more

My only compliant, at least with audio, Another Longmire that deliver what Longmire does well. If you like these books, you will not be disappointed. My only compliant, at least with audio, is this one is fairly hard to follow as it jumps all over in time. Nothing is linear in this book.
Not the strongest of the Longmire, but also not disappointing....more

I found this a little hard to follow at times, but I think that was more that I was listening via audio instead of reading the physical book. A solid story, but the mystery was a bit weak. This is more than likely, more first novel issues than anything. I will continue the series....more

The pets of a dead wizard must save the world. Sadly, the thing that I think most people pick this book up for fails early as to solve the problem of how in the world would pets save the world is solved by making them human but they are still animal in nature (kinda).
This book was ok at best. It started out pretty solid, but just got more and more tedious as it went. The journey to save the color of the world was just not that interesting, and the fact that they weren't cats, dogs, and a snake, really was a death nail....more
