For the longest time Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice was my absolute favorite of hers and it still is; although, I do admit, it now shares first place with Mansfield Park. I remember reading this book after my mom took me to see the movie adaption, starring Keira Knightly and Matthew Macfadyen, in theaters. I remember thinking I was not going to enjoy it at all because I had seen the BBC version and did not care for it one bit. So I figured it’d be like the BBC one and therefore I would be bored out of my mind from start to finish with the 2005 film.
Oh, how wrong I was. And how I was glad to be wrong.
I fell in love with the story and its characters, and once we got home dived straight into Mom’s copy of Pride & Prejudice to see what the movie wasn’t able to include and what changes were made. It holds a special place in my heart since it’s the first Jane Austen book I read.
This is one of those books I wish I could give more than five stars....more
