I feel like if you were someone who enjoyed Credence, you're going to enjoy Krisjen's story. I'll be honest, I did not read the original book that featured the Jaeger brothers, but this one sucked me in. Just like with Credence, it was captivating. Is that even the right word? Or would it be better to say this was a train wreck I couldn't look away from? Penelope is a fantastic writer. She's great at creating stories I find myself unable to stop reading, even though I wear my judgy face the entire time. This book was no different in that regard... because this train wreck had a whole lot of stops (five, to be exact). And it got to a point where I just needed to know where exactly her caboose was going to land.
To sum it up, I'll say this: this book is taboo as hell, and for some, will be highly triggering based on the subject matter / certain events. It's a wild ride about a girl from the rich side of the tracks getting herself tangled up with boys (men) from the wrong side of the tracks, and then testing out each one like a modern day Goldilocks to see which one fits best. I can’t say I loved it, but I also »å¾±»å²Ô’t hate it â€ obviously, since I was unable to put it down once I started reading. If you’re someone who enjoys young MC’s with multiple—mostly older—partners, with a good background story, a little mystery, and lots of smut, this one will be for you....more

I really enjoyed DeLuca's previous series, so I was looking forward to reading this, but it was a complete disappointment for me. I finally had to give up near the end and start skimming because I just didn't care about a single one of the characters. The story had potential, but I think (for me) the ghost aspect overwhelmed everything else, and the book came off as cheesy and tiresome. I don't think I will be continuing this series....more

The subject matter of addiction was poorly handled, especially non-consensual sexual encounters while someone one of the MC's claimed to "love" was high. tbh, I can see the appeal here for those who haven't read *good* dark romance, but this wasn't that (for me personally); the "romance" between the two MC's is basically rape / conspiracy fantasy wrapped in a beautiful cover. Regardless of the horrid "romance," I have to admit I liked the story -- it's honestly the only reason I continued reading. I was invested in the investigation of Gran's murder more than anything, and had this book been only about that without the weird stalkery / rapey vibes from Zade (I much prefer when both parties consent to these kinds of activities), I know I would have enjoyed it a hell of a lot more. ...more

To be brutally honest, this book was not my favorite. I'm always down for a good grumpy/sunshine trope, and for a curvier heroine in my books, so I was looking forward to the premise of an author chick being the one that turns the grumpy sportsballer into mush. Only…this started off (for me) as a complete mess. It took probably 15-20% of slugging through boredom and confusion before I knew what was going on. I found the inserts of articles/letters/tweets/Instagram things completely unnecessary (I usually do unless they’re central to the story).
Once I finally dug in, the banter, the slow burn it grabbed me. I was completely invested. I love when characters grow slowly and get to know each other. But it went on, and on, and onnnnnnn forever with no progression on these two being actual adults who share their feelings. It was tiresome, and after a bit I found myself skimming to get to the good parts just to see where this would lead, only to hit the page that said:
ONE YEAR LATER
Absolutely not.
I was immediately one hundred percent angry. Like, they supposedly spent all this time getting to know each other, sharing cute banter, commiserating over shared pasts and secrets, getting closer, the kissing, the UST, the eventual sex, only for her to find out she wasn’t writing his book any longer, and for him to WALK AWAY FOR A YEAR?
NO.
I need a heroine with some ladyballs who can communicate her feelings (aka show some growth), and when it was obvious to both Alfie, and me as the reader that Mabel was obviously not going to do it, why »å¾±»å²Ô’t he? WHY DIDN’T HE? Who walks away from the “love of their lifeâ€ like that, only to put it in a book that comes out a year later? What a disappointment as a reader to see zero growth in either of the MC’s, and then be forced to accept an unbelievable HEA....more

Myla was one hundred percent unredeemable in my eyes, and Ryot looked like a punk for letting her pull what she pulled, and then begging her to stay with him. He was the doormat in this scenario. I don't care how much you love someone, you don't play around with divorce unless it's serious, and if you're asking for it one day and then begging him for oral the next? You're playing games. This whole book was childish and petty and I fought to finish it because I hoped it would get better, but it didn't. I really think I need to stay far away from this series from now on, because every single book has been terrible....more

I don't usually have an issue with them at all (I loved Emerson and Charlie's book). I can also normally get down with the step sibling trope...but not with a thirteen year age gap where they met when she was EIGHT, and he was TWENTY-ONE. That's just...no. No, I can't do it.
This story had potential, but after reading, it felt forced and taboo for the sake of being taboo, which made it super difficult to get into, hence why it took me so long to finish (while I devoured Praise in only two days). It got to a point where I just stopped caring and skimmed the last 30% or so just to get through it.

It’s TLH with a different title, and instead of Olive and Adam, their names are Bee and Levi. Sure, the setting is different, the character’s names are different, but in general, the rest was…the same. Here we have another “enemiesâ€-to-lovers trope with a ridiculous misunderstanding that then leads to all the love, with a lot of science and facts about Marie Curie mixed in. Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed The Love Hypothesis, but I »å¾±»å²Ô’t plan on reading it twice in a row, and once I started LotB, I had a hard time getting through it, especially after realizing that the things I »å¾±»å²Ô’t like about TLH were going to repeat.
